STUHILL Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 I'd doubt it. We're a long way from getting a top striker in and that's something else we need. Won't be able to tell you all specifics, I don't get that much detail. Even if we sign these players linked with, we will still be needing squad players to cover injuries and suspensions too so yeh I think quite bit more work to be done but I think he wants his main targets in now for a full pre-season etc! Quality news about Mills!!!!
Christoph Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 Nice on bert. Really hope we get him. Bert you no anything about this whole Bamba wanting to move situation?
Bert Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 Nice on bert. Really hope we get him. Bert you no anything about this whole Bamba wanting to move situation? No. I'll try and do some digging though. Off sleep now so any questions I'll try help with in the morning.
kingfox Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 Bert do you get inside information then? I get some aswell as I write about Leicester City, some of you have probably seen a thing called blogsfc Leicester City weblog on newsnow. If so that's me and it has been going for about two years now, after I decided to give it a go all those years ago. Myself well I haven't heard much apart from Mills and a possible transfer of Billy Sharp, always willing to contribute information if I get some

Billy Sharp I'm not that fussed about really. Ok striker.
kingfox Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 Well on Mills currently we are favourites to sign him but Wolves are likely to come back in for him. Sharp only rumours but a bid may well be put in for him in the next week, whether anything happens is early days yet. http://leicester.footballblog.co.uk/ If you want to have a look all my blogs are there under gavh, first page is all this summer so far.

We already had a perfectly decent squad prior to the transfer window opening so we wont be needing many additional players to cover for injuries and suspensions.

You kidding? 1 GK Chris Weale (Debatable if he's good enough for first team) 2 DF Robbie Neilson (Not good enough for first team) 3 DF Aleksandar Tunchev (recovering from injury) 6 MF Moreno (Not good enough for first team) 7 FW Paul Gallagher 8 MF Matt Oakley (Not good enough for first team) 9 FW Steve Howard (Not good enough for first team) 10 MF Andy King (captain) 11 MF Lloyd Dyer 13 GK Conrad Logan (Not good enough for first team) 14 FW Martyn Waghorn 15 DF Bruno Berner (Will only be used as cover) 17 FW Dany N'Guessan (Not good enough for first team) 18 DF Tom Kennedy (Not good enough for first team) 19 MF Richie Wellens 22 MF Yuki Abe 23 MF Franck Moussa 26 DF Tom Parkes (Youth) 29 MF Liam Moore (Youth) 31 FW Jeffrey Schlupp (Youth) 33 FW Leon Crnčič (Youth) 34 DF Sol Bamba 37 FW Darius Vassell 40 GK Adam Smith (Youth) We had that.

Are you kidding? If you think all of those players are no good then go away and support another team. Many of those players played in the first team 2 seasons ago that got us to the playoffs or are unproven due to the limited number of players you can play on the pitch. Yes their are a couple of players who perhaps fall a little too below our back up standards but the majority are still decent professional footballers and will be decent backup (for example weale). Its not Christmas for you ya know. Santa isn't buying you a dream team. Sven will be given enough money to buy players that should be able to do the job, plus a bit extra. There will also be the loan market and the January transfer window if anything should go seriously wrong.

Oh, and bar Bamba & Vassell, is that not virtually the same squad that were rock bottom of the championship in october?

We have a different manager, different owners, different financial position, different goals and the players abilities are not the same. While Weale has had some fantastic times in a City shirt, he's been awful for the best part of this season. Steve Howard, 2 years older and it shows. Same goes with Berner. Same goes with Neilson, coupled with not being good enough. Same goes with Oakley (I would like him around for another season though). Morrisson, awful this season and has looked poor since in League 1 according to most Sheff Weds fans. Wayne Brown is gone. Hobbs, bit disappointed to see leave but I understand it. And St Ledger is a good replacement. Waggy is fine, so are Wellens, Gally and King. Dyer is teetering on not good enough nowadays. N'Guessen is not up to it. Whichever way you look at it, the squad we finished last season with is not good enough.
FrankieADZ Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Wonder if there will be any signings today.... I wont be impressed if we dont
kingfox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 No signings today as far as i'm aware, only possible is Matt Mills but Wolves won't go down without a fight probably if we do buy him won't be until next week. Other than that Maynard's new bid is still very quiet, while all other rumours have seemed to have died down.
StarFox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Whichever way you look at it, the squad we finished last season with is not good enough. Your mistaken. We're not having the whole of last years squad play for us again all at the same time. Sven is buying his first team starters right now. Last seasons players (such as Weale and Oakley) are perfectly good enough to play a few games if something was to happen. Having Sven swap say Nugent (if he was ingured or needed a rest) for Waghorn won't make hardly any difference to our first team squad performance. We know they will do because basically they are just as good many players that they will be up against in the Championship.

We know they will do because basically they are just as good many players that they will be up against in the Championship. You originally said we wouldn't need many players to cover injuries and whatnot. The fact is we had a lot of loanees playing in the first team that will need replacing. You've mentioned Waghorn and Weale (two of our better pre-Sven players) but you haven't mentioned talked about any of the players I mentioned. Neilson, Logan, Lamey, Howard, N'guessen, Moreno, Morrisson. Are you happy for those players to be on the bench (I know Lamey and Morrisson have left but my point remains about the strength of the squad). I'm not expecting 7 or 8 more signings but I still think we're 3 or 4 good signings away from where we need to be. In my opinion that's another Striker (I think Vassell will be used on the flank again and Howard won't see much action) Cover at right back, Neilson isn't good enough, even as back up, for a team aiming for promotion. A stand-out Centre Back, hopefully Mills. Finally a winger to challenge our other wide players, Gally, Nugent, Dyer, Vassell. I think there's a chance Gally could be used more centrally at times and I'm also starting to lose patience with Dyer, his ball striking and ball control are woeful at times.

Having Sven swap say Nugent (if he was ingured or needed a rest) for Waghorn won't make hardly any difference to our first team squad performance. If Weale misses long range shots like he did last season we could lose every game he plays, Sven clearly doesn't rate him. I wonder why Sven bothered signing Nugent if replacing him with Waghorn will make hardly any difference to our first team squad. One of the silliest posts on here for quite some time.
hackneyfox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 I'm hoping we sign the 11 players that they had identified, there is not enough strength on the bench, I don't want to see Weale, Berner, Dyer or Howard play for us again, we have moved on.

We still need players, assuming the Masilela loan goes through, we need a good defender (Mee, Mills) and a striker (Maynard or similar) as a minimum. If possible, another defender and an attacking wide player would be ideal, all on permenant deals. That gives us the basis of a strong matchday squad and allows Sven to look for good 'impact' players on loan. With luck there should be some decent players available when the EPL teams have to trim their squads next month. Whilst there is still work to be done there is still eight weeks to the closure of the transfer window I am generally pleased with the way things are going.

StarFox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 I agree that we still have a first team squad to build. I think we need 3 more defenders, 1 midfielder and 1 quality striker. Once that's done, then I think we have enough experience in our current squad to cover other players. That's all I'm adding to this topic.
MikeyT Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Anything exciting happen today? Heard about the Maynard bids being rejected, but anything else thrilling happened?
StarFox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Anything exciting happen today? Heard about the Maynard bids being rejected, but anything else thrilling happened? Not that I've read. Apparently we have been offered 2m for Sol Bamba and that's about it.
