dan77 Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 If United have players fit, JO'S is not in the first XI I'm not going to argue over and over because its opinion. The fact is, he is a decent player, yes, but its not the sort of signing to be making at the moment. The point about PL and CL football is an interesting one I could easily turn around with 2 key points: 1) Is he really going to be that fussed about playing Championship football 2) Can he do it without world class players around him 3) The football is very very different in terms of style and the necessary approach Of course, he could come in and do very, very well, but honestly, for the wonga he'd want, I'd prefer a hungry young go-getter we can keep hold of for years and build a defence around. Someone with some Championship experience. I think Mills would be a shrewd siging. I like SSL - he has ability and he plays the game in a way SGE will like - he's comfortable with the ball, I just hope his reputation for causing trouble and disharmony doesn't come back to bite us. I see were your coming from, and to be fair I'm well chuffed with SSL and Mills would be quality but defo wouldn't turn down O'Shea hopefully just be greedy and get all 3 back to the old 3-5-2 haha But I'm just greedy!!
Izzet is God Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 IMO don't think O'Shea will come....rumour has it that Bolton want him as they are expecting Cahill to go before start of season should the big clubs come in with their estimation of him. He won't want to play out of the PL either due to the fact he's been at United for so long so he'll def feel like he's at least Bolton/Stoke/Blackburn quailty. Sunderland are still in for him as well but want that trio deal.
Bezzanator89 Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 My patience is starting to wear a tad thin. When we made the double signing of Schmeichel and Danns, I was convinced there more big signings to follow shortly after, a matter of days. Yet the Leicester City transfer wagon's wheels have loosened slightly. I am duly concerned about how we have failed to sign any strikers or convince them to come to us. Yes, so I understand, Sven decided to not go for CMS in the end, yet we are unable to convince potential signings like Maynard to come and join what could be a promotion winning team. Is there some kind of mega surprise to come where we see 3 signings on the same day or something? I'm sorry to be all negative, which is not usually my thing, but I'm seeing lots of "oh-so-close" or "advanced talks" comments in the papers, and little materialisation. And yes, we signed St Ledger today, thankfully we did that before it became a CMS style saga and dragged out for days on end. This is the biggest chance we have to get some decent strikers on board that can cut it at the Championship and Premiership level, and I don't think the likes of Howard, N'Guessan, the Penalty Chipping Frog or potential signing David Nugent will do that. Waghorn is young and has bags of potential, Sven needs to embrace that because Waggy's a a quick little sod, and needs to be used more to achieve what could be some amazing potential. This has been a problem for years, and yet we've covered every area except for the area where the goals are coming from, Andy King and his co-midfielders can only carry us so far. If we get to pre-season and we don't get at least 2 decent goalscorers, then I may start anxiously twitching, I'm just venting frustration at the breakdown at the CMS signing which never happened in the end. If he did sign for us, then I would have kept my mouth shut, but the current circumstances now say otherwise. I'm sorry if you all think I'm just having a moan and making a pointless post, but I feel it needs to be said, the strike-force needs a boost, or it will be a one-sided encounter versus Real Madrid come July 30th, and I'll be going to that, so I hope to see a duo up front who can actually pack a punch. Say what you like, I just needed to get that out in the open.
StarFox Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 This sounds to be not an exciting signing or one that has been a done deal for sometime now. I hope its Ben Mee. Me too
Richard Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 I can see Sven wanting to get his strikeforce sorted now pre season's underway. I can see some development on Maynard, Nugent/Derbyshire (I think it's one or the other) and maybe the confirmation of Masilela? Would also love to see some developments with Mills but I think the lure of premiership Wolves will be too much.
john doe Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 asking if were going to sign anybody this week is like asking am i going to take a dump this week??-- probably and id bloody like to think so,but sometimes these things are just 'blocked'! on another note, hopefully we 'push harder' for maynard,,especially after cms deal came to a 'sticky end' and we couldn't 'follow through'! and yeah i suppose matt mills would be alright! wheres turtels head when you need him

Oh, and i'd start twitching if i were you, pre-season started on friday. By all indications sven has plenty of irons in the fire, but realistically we can't pull them all out while other people will also be trying to pull them out. Just relax, there's another 33 days until the start of the season.
thybluefox Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 Can't see Mills, and definitely not Maynard developing tomorrow. confirmation on Masilela maybe?
Hack Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 Can't see Mills, and definitely not Maynard developing tomorrow. confirmation on Masilela maybe? And Nugent.
MikeyT Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 One or both of Nugent and Masliela would be my guess. Both preferably
