Yeah I read the £10m price tag recently - won't stop some people comparing apples and bananas though will it.

Long has said that he wants a move to the Prem, so i highly doubt he would consider a move to us...

Matt Mills was in the same boat he came to us

Shane Long will not come here. Why would he, when he could just run down his contract, and go to a Prem club with a huge signing on fee?

Price quoted for SL is 10 million.Top target for WBA.According to rumours WBA hoping to do deal for SL this weekend.Just a thought though if he does go to WBA will Miller or Cox be available failing these Sharpe forn Doncaster :chant:

Billy sharp is a great shout, however i am dissapointed we were not in for kenny miller , as cardiff have got him with earnshaw, will be a good strike force....

If we get maynard great but if not i really hope sven has some other targets as we gonna be screwed

IN SVEN WE TRUST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Miller's previous record in English football is hardly earth-shattering.

He was average at Wolves (only 50 goals in 5 seasons there) and dire at Derby. He's also 31, so not really a striker with Premier League potential.

I feel Nugent will bag a few goals this season. Plus Vassell now being his first full season back in the English game, will also suprise a few people and pundits. But I think two strikers are needed. Billy Sharp YES. Chad Evens hmm really is he that good, I sure we could get better. But I am sure Sven has something lined up. Defoe on loan, there is an option I would go for. Also Lennon from Spurs aswell, could we maybe get a loan, another good attacking option.

Defoe, on loan? What land are you living in?

Wow I've just seen pigs flying past Lennon & Defoe we have more chance of signing Hale & Pace lol

Not going to happen. :( But please Sven sign Shane Long! Would much rather have him than Maynard and wouldn't mind paying around 6m for the guy unlike Maynard. Plus Reading are a selling club and with a year left on his contract I think if we make a good offer they won't be able to refuse!

This, however I think even a bid of 4.5m rising to 5.0m will be sufficient to get Shane Long

Not when they set the asking price at £10million

Have we actually even been linked with long ?

Well Stringer mentioned his name on a tweet

@nick4glengate fair comment mate. The perennial problem huh? He'll bring another striker in, but who. Maynard, Heskey, Long? We'll see

We were linked on skybet odds of 12/1 but that link isn't up anymore

Hope that helps

They have backtracked from that asking price now looking for 6m, however say a club bid 5.5m they will get him. Reading are not in a position as he has one year left on his contract, and they have already sold Matt Mills to us and looks like they are becoming a selling club

He has been linked.

If we miss out on all of the big name players, who is left?

Sylvan Ebanks Blake, Billy Sharp

I'd feel a lot happier about the situation if I'd seen Nugent bang in a couple pre-season. As it stands, definitely feel we need a striker added before we can consider ourselves contenders. Either of Long, Maynard, Yak would be excellent.

There has been nothing to suggest we've been linked to these two players other than people jumping on the bandwagon on here.
