Happy Fox Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 There has been nothing to suggest we've been linked to these two players other than people jumping on the bandwagon on here. Yes that may be the case but If we don't get Maynard, I hope that we can get one out of Long, Sylvan Ebanks- Blake, Billy Sharp, but we wil just have to wait and see I guess
Mr.Lowe Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Well Stringer mentioned his name on a tweet IanStringerBBC Ian Stringer @ @nick4glengate fair comment mate. The perennial problem huh? He'll bring another striker in, but who. Maynard, Heskey, Long? We'll see We were linked on skybet odds of 12/1 but that link isn't up anymore Hope that helps Would be an immense signing if it happened, not holding my breathe though. Would have him any day of the week over maynard... Could Matt Mills help lure him here?
Bugg Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Defoe on loan, there is an option I would go for. Also Lennon from Spurs aswell, could we maybe get a loan, another good attacking option. lol
wakeyfox01 Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Long's scoring record isn't as good as Maynard's and most of his goals only came in the second half of the season. Not saying I wouldn't want him but he's just as overpriced as Maynard.

PutneyFox83Matt Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Despite earlier in the year Newcastle were reportedly lining up a £8M move for Long? Would love him at LC, at the end of the day the Thais have fronted over £5M for a CB; strikers, essentially, are more expensive so anything around £5M for Long would be great. In any case, it's their money and they obviously realise the risks involved but if they're putting money where their mouth is then let's support and encourage them to! We've hardly been in the position to spend £5M on one player...ever (apart from THAT obvious mistake) It's for the board to worry about the financial aspect, of which we hear very little about. Let's do our job by supporting our club the way we know how! Getting pi$$ed and watching the games!!
absolutelegend Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Getting pi$$ed and watching the games!! Nothing is more annoying than sitting next to a pi$$ed person at the footy
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Suggested a few months ago, Alexander Gerndt who was the shit in Sweden last season, he signed a contract somewhere with Utrecht a while back, though. Filip Holosko from Besiktas wouldn't be a bad little signing, had a few minor injuries at the back end of last season and ended up doing the business on loan at some gash Turkish side. Probably out of our price range though, and would more than likely want a Prem move.

phildw Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 This striker / goal scorer situation is getting ridiculous now. We have a few weeks until season kick off and no real sign of any possible forward man who could get the goals that this team is going to require to have any chance of securing promotion - which given the money that's been thrown around is a must as we seem to have gone "all in" to use a poker term. Even if a striker comes in by the end of the week he will have missed the major part of pre-season and the teamwork and bonding that takes place. I really am surprised that the forward line hasn't been an equal priority as the defence seems to have been. The defence was indeed shocking at times last season and certainly cost us any hope of a playoff place but the old adage is the best form of defence is attack - and we don't have anywhere near a good attack so this defence better be bloody good. Think there's gonna be a few surprise packages as well this season with some excellent attacking teams out there - Hull 3 Liverpool 0 - they played a more or less full strength Liverpool team off the park according to Liverpool fans forums.

I'd be keen on Gerndt.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Take your random foreigners and shove them up your arse, buttmunch. Ah, right man. I forgot. I meant Shane Long or Nicky Maynard. Let's get them in for silly cash! Pretty sure we've had a sniff at him an'all, i'm surprised Sven hasn't recruited any fellow Swedes yet. I'd be keen on Gerndt. Signed for Utrecht about a week ago mate. I'm surprised we haven't drafted in anyone from Scandinavia in general to be honest, seems a decent little untapped source. Some talent coming from Belgium at the minute, too. Jelle Vossen is another shout, bagged 20 league goals for Genk last season, only 22 as well. His team mate Marvin Ogunjimi used to be utter gash but has come on this season and has managed 4 in 4 for Belgium. Both would give me spoozey boxers.
Libertine Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Ah, right man. I forgot. I meant Shane Long or Nicky Maynard. Let's get them in for silly cash! Pointless. We have BEGGGSTEEVIIIEHHOWARD.
Calfox Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 The whole Maynard thing is doin my head in now! Get Shane long in he's quality and proven at this level last season! Plus I think reading would actually sell him we've already had there captain let Maynard stay at crappy Bristol!

jock2612 Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 So far think Sven and the club have done a good with the quality of the new players BUT i do think that by waiting for their No! target (Maynard) they have taken their collective eye off the ball.If we dont buy or loan another striker this week it could mean a slower start to the season than we AND the owners are hoping for. Please Sven if Maynard really wanted to pay for us he would have forced the issue by asking for a transfer.MOVE ON.
parker156 Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Source of the year. Yeah good 1 <_< Went back to paul and all he could say were linked with someone at fulham simple as.
Nick Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-14279600 Goodwillie charges dropped.
Happy Fox Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-14279600 Goodwillie charges dropped. Only 2m worth a punt if we cannot get Maynard
Clazie Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Can we call this saga 'strikergate'? I'm desperate for it to seem even more dramatic.
StevieLCFC Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Can we call this saga 'strikergate'? I'm desperate for it to seem even more dramatic. Yes, yes, YES!!
foxes2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 i thought about Goodwillie as a possible option or what ever his name is. I am a bit concerned about the reports but if you forget his past because every one has one then hes a very good player scored 17 goals for Dundee United football club (10/11) which was the 3rd best in the league think hes worth a punt scotlands pl is about the same level as the championship, apart from celtic and rangers
