Yeah I dont drink. Aussies look at me funny but thats even before I say I dont drink. Soccerroofox is hilarious so you'll have fun! Deffo go to a victory game but dont expect a win :P

Dont be picky with work, just take anything. Most entry jobs start 18-22 bucks an hour. The least I've been paid for so far is 22 bucks an hour doing removals. If your lucky you will find a job that pays silly money, just like I did with the airport. It was only 17 hours a week for 4 weeks but overtime was 60 bucks so I was cleaning a grand a week excuse the pun. I've managed to get jobs by word of mouth, the Aussies are very good people and they look after you really well. They can't handle the beer but the banter is great!

Good luck, let me know if you swing by Perth way

Also Space Hotel in Melbourne is the best hostel I've ever stayed in. But at 33 bucks a night you get what you pay for! Everythings brand new. clean, lots of room, gym cinema etc. Its across the road from the historic Melbourne Gaol (jail) where Ned Kelly got his dues

Currently finishing off my Indian Visa making sure i have everything. Booking my train to Gatwick and Hotel to stay in. Finally feels like its all coming together :) Not looking forward to my jabs though. 2 months left, everyday feels like an age.

Got back from a 6 month trip just over a year ago. Absolutely flies by when you're out there. Would love to do it all over again.

Two weeks left until i'm heading off, can't wait.

Can anyone recommend a good company to go with for travel insurance? I obviously don't want to pay over the odds, but there seems to be a hell of a lot of exclusions on the cheaper policies.

Nice stuff! I've got 7 more weeks left :(

Urm obviously sta travel come well recommended. My sister went with the post office on her recent trip to SEA, said it was quite good. I also had a friend who broke her leg and had to be airlifted to hospital, loads of hospital treatement when she was out in Vietnam and her insurance covered everything including a generous allowance for each day, her dads flight to and from vietnam and hotel etc to come out and look after her and she highly recommended them but i can't for the life of me remember the name of the website. It was something really obvious like www.travelinsurance.com or something, will try and find out.

Cheers mate, that sounds good. It's a right ballache reading spending hours reading through all the policies to see what they offer. It seems that unless you pay top prices you have to make a few sacrifices on certain parts of the cover. I suppose the medical side of things is what you have to focus on most though.

Yep Medical and flight cancellation i would make sure on. Also if youre planning on renting a motorbike/car etc make sure you're covered for accidents. You basically need to tailor it to what youre going to do, does take a lot of reading through terms and conditions though which is a bitch. Where are you off too again?

Australia on this insurance. I'll be coming hope for about a month in March before heading out again, so ill have to get a different policy for that. As ill be heading to Asia then the policy ill be looking for will be slightly different.

All the best mate, you will have a ball.

One piece of advice if you are having a crap time in a certain place, just pack up and leave for the next

Good advise that. Don't feel you need to wait for people you have been travelling with either. They will catch up when you find somewhere cool to be for a while.

I was the same mate. I still had quite a bit to sort out on the day I left. I think it helped with the nerves though, I was so busy I didn't really have time to think about what I was about to do.

Loving it in Melbourne though. I know it's only my first stop but I feel like I could live here forever. It's nearly 5 weeks since I left home and i just feel like i should have done it much earlier.

So you got work here or anything? How you enjoying your Grand Final week?

Also you should hang around for the summer, summer in Melbourne is so much better....well the spring as well. The Spring carnival for the horse racing is pretty big and will dominate everyhting plus the weather is quality. Also the A-league starts next friday night with the derby so get ya self a ticket.

I'm just doing casual work for a bit, I am quite enjoying not having a proper job so i think i will keep doing it for a while.

I haven't really got Grand Final fever yet, although I will be setting up some marquees down at the MCG tomorrow so maybe it will kick in then. I always thought that AFL looked ridiculous but after getting to a game at the MCG I have started to enjoy it. The game on Sunday was awesome.

I think I will be sticking around for a while. I really enjoy the pace of life here, it's very relaxed but there is always something to do if you want to. I would imagine I will be here until the new year, and then I will be heading off to find some regional work.

I'll have to check out the A-league matches. What are the ticket prices like here? I was very impressed at $21 for a ticket to AFL at the MCG.

Think A-league is the same $20 for general admission (ie. non reserved seat), certainly a lot cheaper than city games.

Wait until summer people are generally in better moods and there is plenty of good pubs and beer gardens for you to frequent. Especially around the Inner City.

2 1/2 months in now. Just been pissed for 3 days on a private island in 30'c heat with some quality company, so i would say its going pretty well. 4 or so months left to go and deliberating whether to go to Australia to work for 3-4 months, after being so adamant i wouldn't as everyone out here just bums the **** out of it. Just wondering if anyone has been out there, and how easy it really is to get work (people seem to make out you trip over laboring jobs at every corner). Bare in mind im a 19 year old with only 9 months of work experience. (Tomassi I will probably hassle you with a few questions on fb soon but its banned in Vietnam and can't get on :P )

Hope everyones good! :)

As I'm 21, 22 in December, I'm trying to see as much of the world as possible on a fairly average sized budget. The summer just gone I went to New York, Miami and Las Vegas and next summer I really want to go to either Asia or South America, in particular. Has anybody on here done much traveling themselves, or plan on doing so? Really want to make the most of it while I'm young and have the time; and just wondered if anybody has any places that they would really recommend visiting etc.
