m00nie Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 we have signed a lot of players who can offer us different options so I would expect he should find it easier this season to have a plan B. i hope this is the case and not just a like for like swap, i know players can be different but sometimes things like the formation etc still needs to change.. As cc points out though our plan a should be good enough i feel this season..

sdb Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 the 'plan b' bit is something i'm glad to see because i completely agree with it. very rarely does Sven make drastic tactical changes (we should have experimented more in pre-season imo). what i also wonder is how he'd do without such funds? he's obviously a very talented manager, but he tends to spend his way out of problems, which can;t be a good long term strategy. Still, I love the bloke. He signs good players and can see what needs improving.

Sousa had no plan B and to be honest, nor did Pearson. For the former it was 4-3-3 wing attacks or nothing, for the latter it was Howard and Fryatt / Waghorn / Kermorgant / Whoever else. However, judging by pre-season, I would argue that Sven is developing a plan B. It's one not many want - hoof it up to Howard with Dyer and to a lesser extent Waghorn as an impact sub winger. We have genuinely looked a renewed threat under this system in matches where we were starting to look leggy. Howard is suprisingly looking more and more fit as he gets more geriatric.

What we need and hopefully what Sven is trying to build is options and lots of them as a manager he needs to be astute enough to identify what the problems are and hopefully have solutions on the bench in adapting the formation and that will be different depending on the opposition, even then it wont always come off because players and teams aren't consistent in their performances or the way they perform as a team. I don't want a Plan B I want options both in players and formations.

The Man City fans thing is that Hughes became manager and had a few fans slating Sven in favour of Hughes... Hughes is a low quality manager and tried to be bigger when talking shit about Sven. Even now one fan said Hughes said Sven was shit... Man City was strucked by injuries, Johnson was one, and had to play with reserve team material and players with injuries the second part of the season. The talk about "plan B" is hilarious. The players change formation constantly. Whats important is having players ready to adapt new roles. The pla a - plan b seems very appropriate if you play Pearson style at first and then put three strikers in instead of three defenders....

Made this point last season and was shouted down.. Man city fans have consistently said this and we certainly saw it last season. Plan A with Sven is usually effective though
