Danny the Fox 95 Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Ryan McGivern is joining Crystal Palace on a 1 month loan deal! Possibly one of the worst players I have seen in a Leicester shirt!
Bugg Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Ryan McGivern is joining Crystal Palace on a 1 month loan deal! Possibly one of the worst players I have seen in a Leicester shirt! You must have never seen Josh Low then
MikeyT Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 You must have never seen Josh Low then Or Junior Lewis and Lee Marshall.
Itsthejoeker Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Or Junior Lewis and Lee Marshall. Or Me.... Well might take that back
Fox92 Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 You must have never seen Josh Low then I second that. In all honesty though, I think we wasn't a full back. He moved to centre back against Sheffield United to allow O'Neill to play full back, and McGivern had a good game in that postion. I think he is a centre back and not a full back. He really can't be that bad if he plays for Manchester City and has made several appearences in the Premiership for them, can he?
Soar Fox Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 I read somewhere a Man City fan said Mancini really rates him and he will be included in the first team squad this season.
Yojoe36 Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 .When I hear that name, I just want to cry. And now he's going Palace :crylaugh: Can we all just go silent when his name get's read out
kingfox Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 He nearly joined Watford, but looks like he will be joining Palace now then. Pleasure seeing Gally or whoever tare him apart this season.
sdb Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Mcgivern was as bad as Lewis, Low, Blake et al. He was ****ing shit. Really, really, really shit.
Wymsey Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Proably been very lucky he's still in the books at Man City and even still, got a few games under his belt in this league.. Totally overrated.
Fox92 Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Proably been very lucky he's still in the books at Man City and even still, got a few games under his belt in this league.. Totally overrated. I wouldn't say so. You can't be at a club, and a top club with World Class footballers, through luck. He must have something, hence the Manchester City coaching staff see something in him. After all, Roberto Mancini was a good footballer and is a good manager, so I'm pretty sure he, and his staff, have better judging ability than any of us.
bluesbrothers Posted 5 August 2011 Posted 5 August 2011 I laughed when i saw this. Journalists were describing the tackle as "truly ameturish" and i was just left thinking "folks, you don't know the half of it..."
Dicko Posted 5 August 2011 Posted 5 August 2011 I think a lot of players get a raw deal in terms of criticism from our fans. Not McGivern though! He was garbage! One of the worst full-backs i've seen in a City shirt. Amazed Man City haven't got rid (he was apparently dross at Walsall last season as well).
Yojoe36 Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 He's going Bristol on loan. I guess palace didn't see much in him
sdb Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 We're paying him to go there to scare Maynard out of Bristol.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 1 September 2011 Posted 1 September 2011 Baffling how he's still on the books at Man City. One of the worst players I've ever seen at LCFC. The Palace fans seemed to think he was alright as well?! I just remember that even if a goal was not obviously his fault (bad header/pass or missed tackle), if you watched the run of the scoring player it would more often than not be the man he was meant to be marking. Awful, awful piece of footballer.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 1 September 2011 Posted 1 September 2011 Maybe, just maybe, he wasn't the finished article when he was with us, aged 19, with only a handful of senior games under his belt. Maybe he's improved over the course of a year and a half or so? Or maybe I'm just being a complete 'tard by actually thinking maybe a young footballer has gotten a touch better with experience.

Maybe he's improved over the course of a year and a half or so? Or maybe I'm just being a complete 'tard by actually thinking maybe a young footballer has gotten a touch better with experience. Are you telling me that you saw any signs of potential in him?! We've had plenty of inexperienced youngsters come on loan to us in recent years. Some you can see raw atrributes that they have which will enable them to go on to be quality players (Mark Davies, Tom Cleverly), some you can see have the potential for a career at a decent level but not quite the one they've come from (Jack Hobbs, Kerrea Gilbert) however some you can see little or nothing in them to suggest that they will make it too far in the game (Ryan McGivern, Elvis Hammond). He undoubtedly fell into the latter category. The use of inexperience as an excuse for the standard that McGivern displayed during his time here is a little too easy for me. Not long before we'd had Mattock break through (inexperienced) and, although I never rated him as highly as others, he still showed a hell of a lot more ability than McGivern. Before him we had Stearman. Both lads who made mistakes that could be attributed to inexperience but similarly showing glimpses of the ability they had at the same time. Hence why they broke into the team and held down a regular place. I think a perfect example could be Schlupp. The lad has clearly got the attributes to be a good player; pace, finishing, dribbling ability, strength. Against lower league sides in the Cup he can impose all of those qualities against defenders that aren't of Championship standard. When he's played in the league he's looked a little naive, over-rawed and inexperienced. Are there many saying that he's not good enough? No. Because despite looking a little new-to-it-all he's also displayed redeeming features which tell you that, with a little more experience, he'll be able to make a mark at this level. McGivern was awfully positionally, not particularly fast or strong, nothing spectacular on the ball. Inexperienced yes, but unless they've taught him how to improve on all of the aforementioned areas then no matter how much experience he gets he'll never be a decent player. The reviews he received at Walsall would tell me that he's still as useless as he was. I would honestly put him second to only Junior Lewis as the worst player I've seen at LCFC
Fox92 Posted 2 September 2011 Posted 2 September 2011 Are you telling me that you saw any signs of potential in him?! As I've said before, when he played centre half he looked like a good player. Maybe thats his natural position instead of full back which is where he played for Leicester. He is obviously at Manchester City for a reason, and, belive it or not, Manchester City's coaching staff are slightly better at judging a players ability than you are.

He is obviously at Manchester City for a reason, and, belive it or not, Manchester City's coaching staff are slightly better at judging a players ability than you are. The whole 'maybe he's a centre back' argument is such a cop out - the guy filled in there for all of 45 minutes and did okay, but in comparison to all of his performances at full back okay seemed fantastic. He really wasn't anything special there against a poor Sheffield United side, certainly not good enough to suggest that that is his real position. If he was a centre back Pearson would have played him there. If he was a centre back Northern Ireland would play him there. If he was a centre back Walsall would have played him there. If he was a centre back Palace would have played him there. He's not a centre back! I'm sure Manchester City's coaching staff are slightly better at judging a player's ability. But I suppose Fulham's coaching staff were slightly better at judging Elvis Hammond's ability, Gillingham's coaching staff slightly better at judging Junior Lewis' ability etc. Some players slip through the net, as it were, in making it as far as they do in the game and are maybe not as good in proper, competitive football as they are in a training environment. But they all find their level eventually and I'm sure McGivern will find his. He's just been lucky that, because he's at Man City, even after a poor season in League One, Championship clubs are happy to take a chance on him.
sdb Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 I have to say the guy was unbelievably bad. It wasn't that he hadn't reached his potential, was low on confidence or whatever. He was just pure shite.

Take into considertation though, McGivern was 19 years of age with little experience. Maybe now he has grown as a player and gained more expierience. I doubt he will everntually make a Manchester City defender week in week out because of all their money, but I don't think he is as bad as what people think.

Ben Mee had never played a professional game before he joined us and by the end of the season all of the fans wanted him back. McGivern wasn't short on confidence - he said numerous times that he'd make it to the Man City first team. He was simply crap
Toffee_Fox Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 Signed a new 4 year deal I think at Citeh.
