David Guiza Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 I thought the biggest problem was the lack of penetration when attacking, it was like watching England trying to build an attack with Gary Barry. We looked so much more dangerous when Dyer and Konchesky in particular got at the full backs. In the 3 league games Nugent has been doing the work of 3 men so delighted he got a goal. We need a winger and a Striker simple as that.
Happy Fox Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Disappointing to say the least, we have major flaws, I really hope we get a good winger or two and a striker, things can only get better
Jack Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Yet again the league provide us with a sunday league ref, he had a shocker. We lack width and play far too negative, at home and playing with just one up front. Nugent had a good game and yet again had to come short to create for himself and had very little support, never stopped running, good effort from him. Also thought Konchesky had a decent game, got forward well and bar a few stray passes didn't really put a foot wrong. It was frustrating watching Dyer because he caused them trouble and he gave us some width but we didn't give him much of the ball. I can't really take any other positives from the game, gallagher needs to grow a pair and stop pulling out of tackles, wellens seemed to point a lot but not actually do a lot. I wasn't impressed by St Ledger not just because of his mistake, i thought he looked shaky from the off and time and time again tryed terrible long balls that went nowhere. King went missing for large parts of the game but went on a couple of good runs and created a few chances.
John Matrix Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 we had the chance to finish them when we had the momentum and blew it onto the next game
CountesthorpeFox Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Trying to put a positive spin on things - a bad start might mean Sven splashes out a bit before the end of the month and gets extra talent in, more so than if we had a good start for example.
Yojoe36 Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Yet again the league provide us with a sunday league ref, he had a shocker. :crylaugh: That ref was f***ing useless 4 inches away from where the throw-in was, and he gives it the other way.
Bettsy82 Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Turning point in the game was gallaghers miss if that goes in we go on to win 3 or 4 -1 but it wasn't to be so we move on.
lcfcliam Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Not blaming the referee as it wasn't his fault but did anybody think he had a really bad game tonight? Can someone explain those 2 throw ins he gave to Bristol, why did he give them?
Bettsy82 Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 :crylaugh: That ref was f***ing useless 4 inches away from where the throw-in was, and he gives it the other way. Yeh I know did he make that rule up before the game. Never seen that before in the 25 years I've been watching football. Tonight's ref was a nob !
kingfox Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Yes we lost but the performance as a whole was pretty good, we lack penatration in the final third that's the only thing which needs to be sorted. Nugent played a blinder tonight, and people will be harsh and slate St Ledger but his heading accuracy was brilliant, his tackling was good aswell, yes his passing in 1st half was shite, but 2nd half his passing was quality burst forward picked out players with perfection. However he cost us the win with a horrendous error, I actually feel sorry for the guy because one of a few people includes myself will say he didn't do too bad at all tonight. We need strikers everyone knows were missing it, formation at times looked like 4-5-1 which frustrates me to my bones. We need pace Dyer gave that us tonight, King and Wellens made good bursts from midfield but still were lacking creativity and chances. Nugent had to run back to the midfield to fetch the ball at times, he played very well tonight and certainly a positive. Keep our heads up because the striker signing will come, we have a good bunch which is capable of winning games, were just missing a goalscorer
Mack Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Turning point in the game was gallaghers miss if that goes in we go on to win 3 or 4 -1 but it wasn't to be so we move on. I'm sorry but that is not true. With the penalty miss and other sitters gone begging we were lucky not to get beat by 3 or 4.

Londonfox22 Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Jack Hobbs to Hull 800k St Ledger to Leicester 1.2 million Absolute joke, he was awful all game. Passing and all round performance was shocking-why you would drop a 5.5 million pound record signing for a back up (at best) player. Playing a 4-5-1, but we have nothing on the wing other than Konchesky...no support for Nugent. We pass it around defence and midfield and then run out of ideas in the final third. Changes are needed!
foxes2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 when we lost against reading i could accept that because i think the have some good players, but when you loose against bristol city who have been near the bottom it is very frustrating
The Doctor Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Just got back. I hope the players learn that WHEN YOU PASS THE BALL BACK, IT IS A BAD THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :frusty: ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!!!!!!! I swear if people keep going on about this (not so much on here but in the ground) someone is gonna get hung from the scaffolding before too long. Some times you need to pass backward in order to move forward, to work the space before trying to get through. If we just play the ball forward no matter what we will continuously waste possession and just turn into a hoof-ball side. Not blaming the referee as it wasn't his fault but did anybody think he had a really bad game tonight? Can someone explain those 2 throw ins he gave to Bristol, why did he give them? Supposedly foul throws although if anyone can figure out how then they're a ****ing genius.
blueblood88 Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 It's starting to remind me of the horrible 2007/2008 season. Loads of new players coming in, spending a fair whack to get sed players in. Massive optimism at the start of the season. We all know what happened don't we.......
Bettsy82 Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 On a plus note I was glad to see nugent score tonight. He is a player who needs confidence and he'll get a lot from his goal tonight and didn't he deserve it , worked his socks off. Hate to think the stick he would have got if he'd gone 6 or 7 without a goal.
Yojoe36 Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 The answer to all your problems is this 4-4-2 :scarf: :scarf:
Babylon Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 For my summary please see the reading post match thread, it's exactly the same.
Swalker Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Nugent looked lively when he had the ball IMO and bamba looked alright. But King and Wellens were non existent, St Ledger was awful and fernandos covered up his mistakes a few times in the 1st half I think. Dyer did nothing, gally was off his game today. Felt sorry for Konchesky because he looked lively but didn't get many chances to deliver a good cross. Ref was awful but doesn't cover up our 'performance'
Bettsy82 Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 I'm sorry but that is not true. With the penalty miss and other sitters gone begging we were lucky not to get beat by 3 or 4. Yeh that's a fair point but at the Time of gallaghers miss we were battering city and I think they would have caved in.
Ricey Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Sven didn't convince me last season he was cut out for the job. The tactical naivety, playing players out of position, bizarre team selections, tinkering, bad signings, not motivating the players, no plan B etc. Never the less, I hoped he'd learnt his lesson and was optimistic for the new campaign. So far though, it looks like it's the same old crap. By Sven's own admittance, a big problem last year was the unsettled defense. So he spends £5m on a new central defender, makes him captain and then drops him after one bad game! He's still tinkering, his team selections are still bizarre, his tactics are still naive, players are still playing out of position and there is still no plan B. He's getting it horribly wrong and I'm fearful, I think the fans will turn on him quicker than anyone thinks if this carries on.

Some times you need to pass backward in order to move forward, to work the space before trying to get through. If we just play the ball forward no matter what we will continuously waste possession and just turn into a hoof-ball side. Not if passing back is all you do for 90 minutes. Soon as they put on pressure, we lose the ball, they attack and boom!! I'm fine with building up from the back. But we can't even carry the ball up the pitch
glitterati Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 lol lol lol lol All that money, and you're shit.
