Umm Mills was 4mm good businees i think, St Legend i though did ok considering. We ar enot a laughing stock, we are just now acutly aware than we need to spend big money ona striker, otherwise we will struggle for top 6 let alone auto.

Mills looks worse than Hobbs and cost 5 times more. St Ledger had a mare gifting them the winner. Spend big money on a striker ? we have allready done 10 mill. Why can't we spot a player pick him up for 500k make him into a 7 mill player all this trying to buy instant success is a recipe for disaster and a complete waste of money. You could have picked up a better team from the free agents list and lower leagues than we currently have . They all think they have made it as they are on ridiculous premiership money sitting near the bottom of the championship, Millionaires who have never achieved anything.

It's quite simple, we have to play a more attacking formation - meaning our defence is also higher up the pitch.

Our problem is trying to play like Arsenal and walk the ball in the net... You seen what happened when Nuge hit one from 30yards - not the best of shots but hit the back of the net - have a pop more often is what's needed

At home, we cannot play a lone striker in a 4-3-3... This is the scrappy championship, not pass your way through the team premierleague.

Still early enough to get it right though, so lets hope we get over these last two games and start playing more attacking football.

I'd still like to see Schlupp with Nuge in a 4-4-2 and not in a 4-3-3 like he was last Saturday - he's not a winger!!

Not a good result. Beaten by a poor side, who still have the best striker in the league. His price is going to go up. With him in our side tonight, we would probably have won easily. A real kick in the teeth, for us.

The reason Maynard turned us down was easy to see. He doesn't think a move to us would enhance his career. And his would-be team-mates, Nugent and Schmeichel apart, did VERY little to prove him wrong.

The City side lacks leadership on and off the field and it's becoming hard to see where it's going to come from.

If we play like this in the next two games, we'll face hidings not only from Forest but Bury too.

This would leave Vichai and Top with a serious decision to make about whether the current manager can take us to where we need to be.

You can argue all you like that the players are getting used to each other, that they need to gel, that the fans need to be patient, that we need a striker or whatever. They're all valid points but three facts remain.

1 - The formation is wrong.

2 - Most of the players that have come in aren't as good as the players that have gone out.

3 - The players - all of the ones we have used - look like leaderless, headless chickens, lacking confidence.

All three things are down to the coaching and management staff. If the next 4 or 5 games are as bad as the last two, the Thai owners will make a change. They'll be feeling the same as us but more short-changed. It's one thing having free signings and loanees playing badly but they will look at that lot tonight and wonder just where their 10 million has gone.

The week that Sven came into the club I said the guy was a massive risk and we could end up being a joke and that's how it's turning out. 19 points in the last 17 games last season (or thereabouts) and now 3 points out of 9 so far. By a long way, not good enough for a man with his reputation and a club of our size.

I really sometimes wonder if some fans on here were actually around when we used to really be 'shit'. Because now it seems that every defeat is the 'worse' we have ever played.

It's a long old season mate. You've won one, and we pretty much gave it to you.

Right....

Tonight was nowhere near good enough. The Reading game was disappointing but they're a good side, lost in the play-off final last year etc. But not this lot. Apart from Maynard they didn't offer much of note, and we couldn't even keep one man quiet. I've always rated Maynard and tonight was pretty poignant: pay what they want if it's less than the £7million we were willing to pay for Long.

The main problems for me:

We've seen two teams turn up and stick nine men, in two banks, behind the ball and be happy to leave with a point (eventually getting all three). In 180 minutes of home football how many chances have we created? You can count them on one hand. We should have expected teams to come with this approach this early in the season with the money we've spent and should have some way of going about breaking them down.

The first half could be split into two approaches. Firstly knocking the ball around without ever really getting them worried in their own half (why would they be when you're playing it around your own back four?) and secondly hoofing it long because the passing hasn't got you anywhere. Yet not having anyone to win it in the air when you do so. Nugent (brilliant tonight) tried hard and won scraps, but he's clearly playing in a role that is not natural to him. We're so desperate for a striker it's embarassing, and even more so when Sol Bamba is getting chucked up front for the closing stages of games. Desperate.

What we're really lacking is someone in the middle of midfield to pick the ball up from the back four, run at those banks of men, pull a few of their players out of position by doing so and then slip the ball through to our forwards. Wellens did this a couple of times and they started to look vulnerable but nowhere near enough. Andy King: you're not a kid anymore mate. It's time for you to start imposing yourself, demanding the ball and doing with it what you undoubtedly can: unlocking defences, creating for others as well as scoring yourself.

In contrast to what others have said, for me, the decision to drop Mills was the right one. I don't think he's been anywhere near good enough in any of our games so far and I think people saying he's been dropped after one bad game are being a little blinkered; it's three bad games (one utterly appaling). That decision sends out a message: I don't care if you're the captain, I don't care how much we've paid for you, if you don't do the business and stay on top of your game then you'll lose your place. Seems fair enough to me. You want to be here earning the big bucks? You play for them. Many of them should have known this when they signed and if St Ledger hadn't made the mistake I'm not sure people would be questioning that decision as much.

I was really disappointed with Dyer tonight. I wanted him to get his chance, he got it, but then was continually dropping deep and not making the runs that he usually does. He looked a little lethargic at times. Similarly, on the other wing Gallagher wasn't great. But... a criticism of Sven: it was obvious they needed switching. Dyer can't play on the right. The guy has no right foot and his crossing is suspect. His game is about being on that left side, knocking it past his full back, burning him for pace and then pulling it back with his left foot. Why wasn't this tried for even 10/20 minutes?

And Waghorn. I'm through with him. I used to love the guy, and I think he still can be a decent player. But not with us. Sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell. Because every time he comes on with his terrible set pieces (get your head right and back on form then you can be getting involved with the set pieces) and wayward shots he just emphasises what a sharp decline he is on. And his price is only going to keep going down. Add him to the list of players ala. Hobbs and Fryatt who needed a man-motivator such as NP to get the best out of them. Tonight he took 20 minutes that would have been better given to Schlupp.

So where from here? It's a tough next couple of games but hopefully we'll encounter two teams that will attack us a bit thus opening up a few spaces for us. It's two losses, bad performances granted, so I think we need to be a bit more patient. They don't need the pressure cranking up any more. As someone said, the morons boing St Ledger: do one. That's gona help him isn't it? Fingers crossed such morons won't be at the Forest match, we'll have a striker in (even if it's only on loan - why has this not been done to tie us over?) and we can get a bit of confidence back with a win :chant:

It's certainly never boring...

Only 3 games in lads......calm down eh?

Eh! We'll have no sense talked round these parts! Offer us an outrageous opinion for crying out loud!! :D

I must say I find this all rather amusing. I almost laughed when I saw the result this morning...couldn't help myself. I feel I've seen and heard this all before, and not just last season either. We splash the cash on some expensive but rather average players, get caught up in the usual pre season hype and hysteria, then three games in everyone is shit, the manager's clueless and we're all doomed. It's classic Leicester City. Business as usual.

Can't help but think the owners have shot themselves in the foot slightly by their overuse of the "promotion" word. The pressure on the players is there for all to see, not helped by a fickle crowd. When the nerves and the expectation settle down, they'll get it together and we'll scramble up the table.

Someone on here (Purpleronnie?) has been banging on for a while that we're really quite average and will finish 8th. I'll go with that

This is just my opinion but Sven started 4-4-2 against Cov even if just for 10 mins. We lost Vassell for the last two league games and have failed to bring in a new striker. Nugent to me seems as the link man and needs someone running into the box behind him like Vassell. Sven has been linked with the type of player to do this too Keane, Beckford and Long.

In the 4-3-3 formation last season the quality of finisher and box player the Yak is far better than this, as noone appears to be the goal hanger .

I believe we will play 4-4-2 again on Sat now Vassell is back not saying we will win as Steve McClaren will probably mirror this and then it's which strike force is better.

But I don't believe we should slag Sven off yet If he had signed a striker we may have had a better start.

KEEP THE FAITH.

I swear we've played 3 games.. Not 43?? Cheer up. Literally 9 months to turn this around.

we have played 4 we won two. i agree. if we cut out mistakes and get the crowd cheering for us then i see no reason why this team wont walk this league.

I thought at times we moved the ball fairly well but all that seemed to highlight was our inability to move the ball into any sort of threatening area.

If we're going to insist on playing 4-5-1 we have really got to offer some support to Nugent. Time after time last night he was given the ball and just had to perform a miracle with his back to goal. King, Gallagher and Dyer were mostly static and never got in behind to force a mistake out of Bristol. The game was kept too narrow as well and we were forced to play floating straight balls in to Dyer and Gally and the amount of them that ended up out of play was ridiculous.

I've not read the thread but I'm sure most have commented on our need for a striker, this is obviously true. Nugent needs a partner, he worked his arse into the ground last night but got nothing for it.

Improvements need to be made but this is a long season and we have time to get it right.

Now that the anger and frustration has subsided a little I wanted to post a couple of calmer views about last nights performance.

There are those that are calling for time for the 'squad to gel'.... Whislt other squads appear to have already 'gelled' I do think we have actually made so many new signings that we will probably need longer than most to bed them in... So I agree with this

Secondly, there were those last night that were claiming to be happy that Matt mills had been dropped. However shocking mills had been on sat (and to be fair, he did have a stinker), to drop your club captain for the next game is fundamentally ridiculous man management. To do so after a run of poor performances because the player really needs a wake up call is understandable, but to do it after one game is bizarre to say the least. As it happens, St ledger played ok, but that's not the point being made here.

Thirdly, there were times last night when we kept the ball very nicely... Nugent's work rate was again great, king made some good bursting runs and, when the ball actually got to dyer he made a couple of decent crosses last night, one leading to a header in which their keeper made a super save.

So, to summarise.... Neither a Sven hater nor a Sven bummer be... Give him till Christmas time to get this right and if we are obviously not going anywhere under his stewardship by then, a rethink will be needed IMO. By Christmas he will have had long enough to show us whether he is going to be the manager we want or not..
