...since you started supporting the club? For me...

Bryan Hamilton - Steve Walsh

David Pleat - Kevin Russell

Gordon Lee - To be honest, I can't actually remember who he signed...

Brian Little - Iwan Roberts

Mark McGhee - Pontus Kaamark (or Garry Parker)

Martin O'Neill - So many to choose from, but Muzzy Izzet

Peter Taylor - Ian Walker

Dave Bassett - Paul Dickov

Micky Adams - Marcus Bent

Craig Levein - Matt Fryatt

Rob Kelly - ??? See Gordon Lee

Martin Allen - Clive Clarke, due to his major part, however unintentional, in us actually winning at Forest

Gary Megson - ??? See Gordon Lee

Ian Holloway - Steve Howard (thanks MG)

Nigel Pearson - Richie Wellens

Paulo Sousa - Yuki Abe

Sven-Goran Eriksson - Kyle Naughton (Loan) - too early to pick any of the new lads

Davies was Pearson. And Yuki definitely wasn't really Paulo.

Ah. That explains why he was a decent signing then.

Yeah, I guess you're right about Yuki. But then it still goes down in the record books as a "Sousa signing".

I'll update the other one. With MORE question marks...

Thought Kaamark was O'Neill - could be wrong

You're definitely wrong. I went to one of those "Players evenings" that they do every now and again, and the Birch was hosting it. He mentioned Pontus as an O'Neill signing, and I went up to him afterwards and told him I could have sworn he was a McGhee signing. He looked a little surprised, but checked it out, and I was indeed correct. Have since double checked it on the Internet too.

I'd put forward a strong case that Cottee was MoN's most inspired signing.

And Mancini was definitely head and shoulders Taylor's best signing.

I stand corrected, but I'm in good company if the Birch thought so too.

True. And I've been humbled myself, as I've just found an article which says that Mcghee also signed Garry Parker. Could have sworn that was Little.

Actually, Mcghee's track record with signings was pretty decent in the short time he was here - Kaamark, Parker, Scott Taylor, Mark Robins and Steve Corica. Though he did sign Spider...

Cottee was superb, of course, but I went for Izzet because it was when he joined that that terrible start to the first season O'Neill was in charge turned around for the better. I'm fairly sure his first match was that dismal Sheffield United debacle that everyone refers to as our turning point.

I'd say Sturridge was Taylors best signing.

They all pale into comparison to O Neill don't they? None of them (maybe Little at a push) come close to him for ability in the transfer market.

I think McGhee comes second for transfer market ability: Pontus Kaamark, Garry Parker, Mark Robins, Steve Corica, Mike Galloway, Scott Taylor. All good solid players who did a job for us. His only real blemishes were Spider Kalac and Franck Rolling, but even he had the odd decent game.

Parker came to us as part of the compensation deal when Little dumped us to go to Villa.

Kalac went on to play for AC Milan a while later. Never looked a Champions League winner while he was with us though..lol

You're right. Always remember that game we had against Villa just after he left when everyone had their "Judas" signs. I got some funny looks from our fans because I wasn't joining in. At the time I felt like the only one, but I respected what he'd done for our club and I never begrudged him the chance of playing for his boyhood club. I know it was the way he went about it that rankled with the fans but still, he was the beginning of the good times really.

But kermos decent!

MON - Matt Elliott

Great shout. In his prime he was in the top 3 centre backs in the country.

Remember we could of sold him to Liverpool for 8-10mill at one point and refused to even talk to them. Invaluable player.

Brian Little - Iwan Roberts

Mark McGhee - Garry Parker

Martin O'Neill - Close between Lennon and Izzet

Peter Taylor - Ian Walker

Dave Bassett - Paul Dickov

Micky Adams - Lilian Nalis for that goal against Leeds

Craig Levein - Matt Fryatt

Rob Kelly - Smashing bunch of lads was good.

Martin Allen - DJ Campbell

Gary Megson - N/A

Ian Holloway - Matt Oakley

Nigel Pearson - The Pearson era Waghorn was outstanding, Wellens has done well under both to follow him though

Paulo Sousa - Yuki Abe

Sven-Goran Eriksson - Neil Danns is beginning to look a good signing, but the jury's out.
