Happy Fox Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Sven-Goran-Eriksson-could-be-replaced-at-Leicester-City-by-Martin-O-Neill-who-left-Aston-Villa-article797390.html Martin O’Neill is being lined up to make a sensational return to Leicester City. There are serious concerns inside the ambitious Championship club that current boss Sven Goran Eriksson is not the man to inspire City’s promotion push. The Thai investors, who masterminded their takeover last year, have shown they are prepared to invest in the team, but believe that there must be a immediate bolt for the top flight. If Eriksson can mastermind a run of victories, the former England manager may still hang onto his job. But if the board decide a change must be made, then ex-Foxes boss O’Neill is the man they will turn to. O’Neill is still revered in Leicester from his five years as boss from 1995. He guided the club to promotion to the Premier League and two League Cup finals, lifting the trophy in 2000. O’Neill has been out of work since leaving Aston Villa 13 months ago and has so far rejected any new job offers.
Legend_in_blue Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 He always said we needed a new stadium to progress. We have that now... And Sven hasn't emptied the money pot completely yet...
He's not bald Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 He will want a bigger job than us. Who know's? But it won't happen anyway, rumour has it that we are in compensation talks with Notts County!
Salieri Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 He will want a bigger job than us. I'm not sure about that. When he was with us before he always had financial constraints and definitely took us as far as he could under those circumstances. However, we now have the financial clout to compete in the Prem and despite the old adage of 'never go back', who knows, he may relish the challenge of trying to top his previous achievements with us. Having said all that, i'm sure there is nothing in that 'story'. Yet.
Tielemans63 Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 Yet more lazy-ass journalism. MON left Villa cuz he felt they couldn't match his ambition - why would he then drop down into the Champ? IMHO this is a journo putting 2+2 together and making 5. I'll be happy to eat humble pie if i'm wrong though. In fact, it'll be a cream pie if O'Neill came back so maybe not.

Is it really? their may be something in this, we will just have to wait and see I guess.
AyewJoking Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 Hmmm, didnt we win the league cup in 1997 aswell?
Libertine Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 Wouldn't be surprised but it's probably just making assumptions due to us talking to him last time. Can't see it happening though, though this is certainly the type of board he'd be happy working with.
Corky Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 I'm not sure about that. Having said all that, i'm sure there is nothing in that 'story'. Yet. I just don't see how we'd fit into what he wants. He's done the "improve the smaller club and over-achieve" once, would he want it again? I reckon he'd want a Sunderland or Newcastle-type job if it came up.
Bugg Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 NO He's had his time here, If he comes back and we start slowly people will be calling for his head just like they are for Sven, plus he'll want to spend £10million+ on his own players. And for any of you complaining about the football we played under Pearson, prepare to be disappointed again with the O'Neill brand of football.

DJMadness29 Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 First of all I currently have nothing against Sven. Its still the beggining of the season and were alot better than last year. But Im not sure if I'd want Martin back. Yes part of me loves the idea of ,who is basically, god coming back to us, but I'd be gutted if he couldnt relive past glories and lost the 'god' status he has with us.
Bugg Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 It wasn't at all disappointing You've missed the point again, people were complaining about Pearson's "hoof ball" 2 seasons ago but then call for O'Neill like we are going to be the next Barcelona if he comes in when the reality is that we'd be playing "hoof ball" again.
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 NO He's had his time here, If he comes back and we start slowly people will be calling for his head just like they are for Sven, plus he'll want to spend £10million+ on his own players. Why would we be disappointed under MON? For what reasons? All you do is come out with daft one liners
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 The only reason I wouldn't want MON back is because he'd find it hard to replicate his previous feats.. Possibly the best manager we have ever had and I'd hate for him to be remembered as the comeback king that never did it That said, he could probably still do a job
Guest DavidJCW Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 I couldn't care less what type of football we're playing. If we're winning, that's all that matters. Sure, right now it's not clicking, but given a little more time, it will... just look at Sunderland the year they went up... I simply don't get how people think we have the luxury of being able to choose how we play football... we have to play the way we need to to get out of this league! If that means hoof-ball, then so be it! The only teams that have the talent and players to choose how they play are the very top teams... I completely understand their gripes when they aren't playing decent football considering the hundreds of millions spent by them on players. The fact of the matter is, is that MON was incredibly successful here with us and made us an established Premiership team, competing in Europe. Sven cannot be sacked after 6 games and needs to be given time but if he was to go and MON came in, I for one would seriously welcome the news of having an experienced, talented, proven (not to mention loved here at City) manager coming in as a replacement. Summing up... Back Sven! Back The Team! Back The Push! (And if needs be... Back Martin O'Neill!)
Charl91 Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 MON is one of the best managers around. However has a habit of buying shite players on stupidly high wages.

I personally wouldn't be disappointed, but judging by the stupidity of this forum and our fans in general, if we had a slow start (which we did when he first joined) Fans would easily be turning the blame onto the saviour O'Neill as quickly as they did under Sven, and guess what, one of those over reactionary idiots might just be you creating threads like "Is MON the right man for the job" and "O'Neill Out" just like you did for Mr Eriksson. Oh, and don't try and say that I spout shite, you just come across as a hypocritical nob
Tielemans63 Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 The only reason I wouldn't want MON back is because he'd find it hard to replicate his previous feats. Think you're right there. They say you should never go back. Look at Cloughy's second spell at Forest or Graham Taylor when he went back to Villa. It's almost impossible for these guys to live up to expectations.

What is the MON brand of football exactly and who the fook are you to criticise it? That's what I was referring to. No hypocrisy there 'bugg'...
foxes2011 Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 Comeon guys martin oneil although he has the club at his heart, i dont think he would want to come back he did a brilliant job for us and wouldnt want to harm his reputation. I think to many of us want to get rid of sven but really i think managers need time . If we did get rid of sven id love to see curbishly get another chance, did great at charlton, many years of experience
The Doctor Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 You conveniently ignored my criticism.. What is the MON brand of football exactly and who the fook are you to criticise it? That's what I was referring to. No hypocrisy there 'bugg'... Wasn't MON's style of football quite direct, a lump it forward sort of thing? And Bugg wasn't critising it, just saying that if certain posters are unhappy with our current style of play or that under Pearson *cough* Thracian *cough* then they're going to be similarly disappointed with the way we'd play under MON.
Bugg Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 You conveniently ignored my criticism.. What is the MON brand of football exactly and who the fook are you to criticise it? That's what I was referring to. No hypocrisy there 'bugg'... Can you not read? I wasn't complaining about the "O'Neill Brand" of football (very direct since you don't seem to have a clue even thought you still live in his glory days) I was merely referring to the fans who were complaining about Nigel Pearson playing a direct but then were calling for Martin O'Neill thinking that we would then be playing fluid entertaining football. And like I said as well, O'Neill started slowly for us when he first joined, in fact fans were chanting "O'Neill Out!", were you one of them Col? Because the way you flew off the handle at Sven after a couple of games seems like you'd be the exact same as the people chanting that back then, and if he came here and we didn't win in 5 you'd be the exact same. If he didn't want to join, I wouldn't blame him considering how badly the fans treated him when he first moved. I'm not trying to look for an argument, but when people don't read my posts properly it really riles me.
