Writing off new signings

Got to get this off my chest...

Some of the abuse of new players before they've been here five minutes is getting ridiculous.

First it was Matt Mills getting the 'he's shit. What waste of money' treatment after a few poor games and now it's Beckford.

I know one performance doesn't make him worth 5 mill but Mills was outstanding today and is starting to show what he can do - why did people think he'd be brilliant from minute 1 just cuz he cost a few quid?

Now it's Beckford's turn. The guys played 160 mins in City shirt and people are already slating him already. Okay, he was less than impressive today but the service to him was non-existant and he's an out and out striker - you have to get crosses in if you're going to get the best out of him.

Anyone who went to the Brighton game will have seen a promising debut and yet people are bringing out stupid facts like 'he's scored 0 goals in 13 Championship games now' - he last played in the Champ 2 fvcking years ago you retards!

I'm not saying thecsun shines out of every City player's arse but give them a bloody chance - especially when they've been here for a matter of days!

Rant over.

I don't think anyone is writing Beckford off.

People are just commenting on how he has been disappointing so far, and I think that's fair. His displays have been far from inspirational.

I think 99.9% of fans are still happy with him being here and know he will be a great asset in the future. I think once he gets his first goal, he'll be away.

I know where the creator of the thread is coming from, but I certainly do agree with this post.

People have just said he had a bad game yesterday, I don't anyone already saying he will be a failure?

Some of the overreaction to the slightest bit of criticism on here is ridiculous.

People aren't going to say he was brilliant yesterday just because he is a new signing.

People are judged exactly on how they perform. They play well, they're praised, they play badly it's not so complimentary. Normally recent signings get the benefit of "new player syndrome" anyway in that they're urged into the team whether they're ready or not. It's happened countless times down the years with people like Kaebi, Laczco, Sylla, Kirkland, Bednar Abe, etc who were all urged into the team when not fully ready or convincing for whatever reason.

We've had it this year with Danns, Fernandes and now there's Johnson. Hardly any clamour for local lad Schlupp whose performances in the Cup games really have caught the eye.

In the case of Danns and Fernandes there's been few signs yet that eiher deserve a place and, in the case of Johnson, after prolonged injury problems, people are demanding his place in the team when he's clearly still short of proper fitness - just like Bednar and Kirkland were.

I've got nothing against any of our new signings. But the criticism of Mills has been entirely justified just as he arguably deserved being named Man of the Match yesterday. Let's be realisitic though. Cardiff lost a lot of their mobility up front to injury yesterday and it would have been interesting to see how Mills (and all our other defenders) coped with a more active Cardiff attack and the elusiveness of Earnshaw etc.

In the event Mills was judged simply on what he had to cope with on the day but to suggest yesterday's performance might have been more meaningful is just being optimistic.

Schmeichel might justify that kind of respect because he really has strung together a run of form. Bamba and Peltier are starting to do the same. But Mills has a way to go to be convincing.

Overall though I can't remember anyone being written off. St Leger's had the shakiest start and has really not helped himself in any way - but even he's not been written off.

Optimism obviously isn't your thing ;) I see slowly improving performances as a cause for optimism - bedding in a team made up almost entirely of new players was always going to take time. I thought Mills was in control yesterday whether facing Earnshaw, Miller or Gestede.

Also Schlupp is about as local as Wiener Schnitzel.

Beckford done nothing wrong what so ever, just didn't stand out like everyone wants him to, give a few more games, same old Leicester fans not giving a new player a chance to show his qualitys!!!

Agree completely, Beckford had no service at all on the weekend! We didn't get any crosses in the box until the last 20 mins, and by then he was subbed off. Gotta give players time and not 2 games..

I blame Sven :sge:

For what?

He picks the team not his fault if they don't perform.

Everyone was going mad about the players he got in we was gonna piss this league.

They have not performed as a team really yet but showing signs.

None is anyones fault yet it's a whole team getting used to each other.

With plenty of time to get promotion.

a) I don't do blind optimism or optimism that has no realism attached. Mills may turn out to be an excellent servant but so far, apart from Sunday, he's been ordinary. That's why he's been criticised nd what happens in the future is down to him.

b) As in locally developed through the Academy. I've long forgotten the concept of "local" as in born and bred here. It sounds almost archaic! :D

You say that as if it's a bad thing. :crylaugh:

Seriously folks...

NO OPTIMISM!

Cut it out; NOW!

Behave. Has looked a class apart every time I've seen him (with exception of Cardiff game where he admittedly looked poor).

I didn't say or suggest that it was a bad thing. That's just the way you've chosen to present it. Optimism/pessimism, they're both irrelevent really in terms of performance.

Winning football matches is much more down to details than illogical off the cuff feelings and I truly wish we'd attend to those details than just keep wishing and hoping.

Then I'd have reason to be optimistic. :D
