accessory Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 Link As England curse the transgressions of another waster with mental issues, it's ironic that this should reach the surface. While I wish him every success in his rehab, the parallels with George Best are frightening. If you ever see Gazza in the Soccer Saturday studio (and don't think he won't be tempted) - be afraid, be very afraid.
ousefox Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 Fantastic article that. Just hope rehab works for him eventually.
Fox92 Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 Good read. I still find that funny though; "After Raoul Moat had shot three people, killing one, Gascoigne jumped in a taxi with a box of chicken and a can of lager"
stripeyfox Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 I really wish him all the best. one of the very few opposition players to get a standing ovation at Filbo (when he came off the bench for everton) and the best player i've seen in my lifetime.
lestajigs Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 Good read. I still find that funny though; "After Raoul Moat had shot three people, killing one, Gascoigne jumped in a taxi with a box of chicken and a can of lager" Dont forget the fishing rod and dressing gown!! Wtf
ozleicester Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 Truly a sad situation, drawing the link to Best isnt that accurate either, as Best at least seemed to be enjoying his life, Gazza appears to just be surviving with his. Good luck
Mack Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 The bloke was a genius on the pitch but is a complete **** off it. He beat his misses, tormented his kids and has wasted a life most of us would snap off our right arm for.
accessory Posted 9 October 2011 Author Posted 9 October 2011 But as he notes, the stepkids want nothing to do with him and yet are happy to keep his name. Being treated like that would annoy a lot of folk.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 Absolutely love the guy. Along with Claridge's winner at Wembley, Gascoigne's Jock-rape was one of my first footballing memories.
Houdini Logic Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 I feel his book could certainly be worth a read... We were due to play Sunderland on 12 January 2002. That night I drank three and a half bottles of wine, took 11 sleeping tablets, woke up at 6am with the shakes, took a couple more tablets, finished off the wine, fell back asleep, woke up again at 9am, had a treble brandy, another sleeping tablet, a smoke and went to the game. I was in a terrible state, so I had another treble brandy, took another tablet and went out and played a blinder. Afterwards, I went home and fell asleep. Next morning I asked Jimmy ["Five Bellies", pictured below] how I had done. "Look at the table," he said, pointing to a bottle of champagne. "You won man of the match."
Master Fox Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 Gazza was and still is absolutely brilliant. What a fantastic player and character for the game. Entertaining on and off the pitch. I remember at Filbo in the warm up before the live sky game against Everton or Boro (not sure which) he was driving balls to smash against the window of the Sky presenters box. Hilarious. Love reading about his stories being half cut before going out and playing. Treble brandy, 3 bottles of wine, 11 sleeping pills and a ton of fags before playing Sunderland. Brilliant.
Guest MattP Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 Will always be a legend for what he did in that Scotland game. Best English player I've seen by a mile.

He beat his misses, tormented his kids and has wasted a life most of us would snap off our right arm for. I agree. Obviously I hope he turns it around, but I don't feel sorry for him in anyway, he got himself into this mess in the first place.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 I don't feel sorry for him in anyway <_< Behave.
broughtonblue Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Read his book a while ago, and all his troubles seem to have started when he was young. When he was 10 (I think) he was asked to look after after his cousin (could have been nephew) who was about four at the time. After a trip to the shops together, his young cousin got ran over and killed whilst gazza was supposed to be looking after him, he has never forgiven himself and says it is on his mind constantly. Having never been through anything like this I can see how it could potentially ruin the rest of your life!
