Most intimidating place you've been to see City play?

****ing hell, Millwall are tame as **** nowadays mate.

Agreed.

When we beat them in 09 they were mouthing off at London Bridge but the bill were protecting them, not us.

Probably the Red Star game in Vienna but it was such a weird day. A group of us spent the day taking in the sights and sounds of Vienna (I'm not one for pretty gardens and architecture but that place was a bit wow) and then made our way to the ground later and it was just hostile. I think we'd settled down and were used to the RS lot doing throat slitty stuff from a distance and then a flare landed a few feet away and that was it. I think I spent the rest of the game watching their fans not the game.

The only other one where I felt intimidated was Sunderland away in the league cup semi final. Great atmosphere inside then outside something went through the window of the coach in front and ours was getting a battering too. It took about half an hour to get through their lot and get away.

I'm pretty lucky that in 26 years following City I've missed a few flashpoints. I'm all for banter and pisstaking but taking or giving a beating for the sake of football is just mad.

Coventry, Newcastle, Boro, and especially Millwall have all been a bit lary.

But the worst away day for me was QPR away back in the eighties in the FAC. Made the mistake of actually buying seating tickets for about the first time and being sat with about 50 other city fans. About 20 rows back was their entire crew. Marvellous. Made about £6.00 with the amount of coins hurled at us.

Typical coppers attitude that day was you shouldn't have come to London then..... :scarf:

An oldies memories of the 70's when I was a mere teenager -

Leeds away, could have been the last days of the old Leeds stars - cold day, miserable Yorkshire men grumbling as me and 2 mates quietly walked to ground, in little shed like terrace behind goal, no police, City equalised second half, a few cheers from 50 ish City fans, started a song but sound of smacking fists on a few heads, deadly silence rest of game!

Liverpool away last game of the season, they had won the league and would be presented with the trophy, me and a few mates went on train (think it was a football special, but when arrived at Lime St only about 100 got off and only a few singers), got a bus from the station packed with Liverpool fans so we didn't say a word or even look at each other, walking near the end some young skinheads sussed us produced a knife and were about to mug us when a older scouser stepped in and told them to fvck off, in opposite end to kop, the whole ground sang NWA with scarves everywhere ; fantastic, City scored and forgot myself and cheered so mate kicked me!, no bother anyway as scousers happy -finished 1-1 - tbf it was a great day just the getting to the stadium was bit scary.

Anyway, off to get me slippers, pipe and cocoa - if can think of anymore will post.

Having only started going to away games in the last 5-6 years I can't really say I've felt intimidated anywhere. 5 of us got chased by about 20 Preston dicks throwing bottles and stones after Nils scored to keep us up, that's as bad as it got. Felt a bit edgy about Millwall until I got there and realised it's probably one of the safest grounds in the country. Thought Ninian Park might be a bit dodgy after the game a few years ago when we beat them 1-0 and all their fans were mouthing off but otuside there wasn't a hint of trouble. Luton's a funny place too.

Have mixed feelings about missing the 70s/80s etc, obviously not a fan of violence at football, but I imagine it would've added another level to the day, wondering if you'd make it home in one piece!

Leeds away , 1st time they could not get at us so were beating each other up , 2nd time was when they were going for promotion, the old bill said to us that they would get us out of the ground quick but if we won it would be even quicker as the leeds fans would want to kill us . Leeds won , their fans stormed the pitch and were trying to throw the advertising boards at us .

Bournemouth away on an august bank holiday saturday , mainly because both sets of fans were trying to get at each other and the gate at the front of the stand kept being forced open . I don't know what happened afer the game but alot of leicester fans headed into bournemouth .

Stoke away midweek was a bit on the intimidating side

Nottingham Forest was a pretty hostile place in the 70' s ( this of course was prior to them not caring about the rivalry between us )

The areas around Anfield and Goodison are rough as fukc and there's shit loads of little alleyways and side roads etc. Could imagine it being pretty dodgy round there back in the day like.

I've never felt all that intimidated, only been to a few aways and most up here across lancs and yorkshire so not particularly hate fuelled rivalries.
