Marmite Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Maine Road when I think we won 1-0 when Savage scored against Man City Cardiff's Ninian park was a bit tasty as well
Bayfox Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 For me i've had a few where i've not felt to safe, but it's normally after the game when we have got a result. Stoke @ the victoria ground for the play-off semi, was still at school at the time, but having spent most the game having stuff lobbed at us, looking up to see the whole of the end behind the goal empty and steam towards us when, the players where just trying to celebrate was a scary sight, glad of the old bill for once, cus that could have turned real nasty. Derby away think it was the year collymore bust his ankle walking though that underpass on the way to pride park, about 50 Derby appeared from no where to follow us through, there had been a few words exchanged in a pub earlier and they had waited for us, never been so glad to scarper and get back into daylight without getting a kicking as there was about 12 of us. Maine Road when savage scored, before the game was fine, but after different story, was glad to get out of Manchester that night, in fact it was the one time i was glad to be getting on a coach after the game. and Swindon in our league 1 season, talk about attitude coming out the ground they really fancied it a bit of trouble, was about 1 of 4 or 5 who had gone round the houses on the trains just to get there, had to change about 4 times, anyway walking past a boozer, some lad decides to lob a pint at us, which missed us and got some geezer getting out a taxi and he assumed it was us, thinking an argument with a local outside a pub in Swindon wasn't the best idea, we kept walking, which wound him up even more, the next thing we know one of our mates as been shoved to the ground and the commotion has alerted the whole pub, how the **** we got back to the station without getting a serious kicking I don't know, glad I was 10-15 years younger than some of the guys doing the chasing, yes we pegged it, but 5 against a whole pub was a scary thought. Wouldn't be in a hurry to go back to be honest. Two of these are isolated incidents that we just got caught up in and I've never made it to Stamford Bridge or The Old Den etc at the height of Football violence so for me it would be Stoke's Victoria ground that was the worst. Only twice have I felt intimidated at home games, both at Filbert St, once when we played Chelsea, SK1 started with the Matthew Harding song and the next thing you know the Chelsea Fans went mental and all the skinheads tried to rush the kop, can only imagine what carnage would have happened if they had got in. wasn't to nice walking back down burnmoor st after either. and Birmingham in the cup one year 4-2 I think we beat them and after the game there so called zulus turned up on burnmoor st as well, well there where just people running in all directions and the old bill didn't have the foggiest what to do, I nearly had my head taken off by a WPC on horse back, and I was stood watching from a doorway.
TrentFox Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 West Ham away in the early 80's. Felt so glad to make it to the ground in one piece and get through the away fans turnstiles ....... only to realise there was no segregation on the other side of the turnstiles and the only thing you'd done by going in the away entrance was identify yourself as "not from 'round here" !! Only ground I've ever been clobbered at. Spent most of match watching a 3-1 loss with my back to the game so I could see where next fist was coming from. Newcastle away same season was lively, too.
Corky Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Millwall in League One but the Police kept us pretty safe.
Lambert09 Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 I remember having stones chucked at me by Stoke fans a few years back....even though we lost 4-2 and wernt any trouble.....tbf Id throw stones if my team conceeded to an Elvis Hammond goal
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 The old Charlton "Valley" was a bad place in the 70s. I was twice pelted with beer cans and bottles The worst though, had to be Millwall's, old Den, in the 70's also. Being situated close to the London Docks, masses of their supporters were he rough and ready Dockers, themselves. Maniacs, would just about sum them up. Missiles of all sorts, seemed to fly in the direction of Leicester fans, and their threatening behaviour, always made me feel uneasy. I can remember taking my eighteen year old, future Sister-In-Law to a midweek evening game, and being chased by around a dozen or more burly adult males, threatening to break our kegs. Fortunately, being younger then them, we made good our escape. Mary, never again, came to a match with me. Dodgy days, the 70s, going to away games.
Solihullfox Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Remember being at a night match in one of the cup competitions down at the old Den in the 1980's. We drove to the ground with women giving us grief from the steps of their houses, how they knew we were Leicester fans I don't know ! You went in to the away end through turnstiles surrounded by a bowl and thankfully by many many police. We got beat, think it was 2 - 0, and it was still carnage in and outside the ground. Remember a white transit on fire in the car park, being bricked, having the car stoned and all of this after one of the Met's finest telling us at the end of the game, "You're on your own lads" Never experienced anything as bad anywhere else although Maine Road could be a bit unpleasant as could Wolves, such lovely people. I would say that you really had to watch yourself and mates at virtually every away ground back then, real adrenaline rush but far more pleasant these days.
Earlydoorsjones Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Saffron Lane Athletic ground in the early 90's.
Solihullfox Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Yes, remember going there in midweek in January sometime in the late 80's in the FA cup, even the walk from the station was scary, like walking a gauntlet with bottles and stones flying at us from all directions, it was as cold as hell and we lost, at the final whistle their supporters invaded the pitch and ran across to us. See my post above - that's the match I'm talking about -scary is the right word.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 I asked my dad as an old man in his 50's and he said West Ham at home in 1975. He was 17 at the time, and got to the match early (about 1pm) to find 'at least' 50 ICF on each corner of the ground. Told me he turned around and walked back home with his mates, I don't think he fancied his chances that day...
frankiesgrandad Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Kilmarnock. We played them in jock Wallace era. There were only about 20 of us there and there fans charged the terrace where we were.. Derek strickland scored the equalizer and we thought we would get mashed but when.they.got amongst us we realised that they loved old.jock and wanted.to.swop scarves etc . Bonus to come away.unscathed in those days
frankiesgrandad Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Also Milan watching England in 1980 euro championships. Got chased by carribinari for no reason and ran for about a mile before stopping.
accessory Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 1) Leeds away 1990. End of season game with them in a three-way battle for the title. Loads of National Front in evidence for them (awkward for me as I travelled up with an Asian Leeds fan!). They were threatening all kinds of retribution until Strachan scored a late winner for them. Had Leeds not won that day we would have taken a pasting. 2) Millwall away 1994. South Bermondsey station was shut, so I and a couple of others took a cab from London Bridge to the ground. Just as well we did - there were mobs on every street corner waiting to kick in any away fan crossing their path. After the game they ambushed us as we were being escorted to Surrey Quays. A vile bunch.

I remember that game and there were a few Wham fans around and a bit of pushing and shoving but I don't recall any real trouble, certainly not in the ground, having said that I never made it to Filbo much before 2.30 in those days!
Ric Flair Posted 21 October 2011 Posted 21 October 2011 The area I parked in to go & see us lose 5-1 (I think) to ManCity in the FA Cup at Maine Rd was a nightmare. Went to Wolves when Molyneux was new & there was loads of trouble in an underpass when it was the only way to get to popular away fans parking, in the ground we were on a lower tier & had stuff chucked at us the whole game, it was a capacity crowd & the atmosphere was electric. But the moss side old maine road ground of ManCity was deffo the most intimidating overall. It was fookin horrible weren't it? Anfield when we beat them 2-0 was fairly nasty an'all, all those alleyways with broken glass glued on top of the walls. Oh and I took my missus on our first date to Millwall away, when we beat them 1-0 and they were not happy with us.
blueblood88 Posted 21 October 2011 Posted 21 October 2011 Baring in mind I'm 19, only incident that springs to mind is the game when we beat Millwall at the New Den 0-1, was on fox travel...didn't think we were gonna get out alive! very tight corners, pubs covered with pissed off Millwall etc. ****ing hell, Millwall are tame as **** nowadays mate.
steveherbe Posted 21 October 2011 Posted 21 October 2011 Millwall old den.only went the once! Villa away after i cheered Claridge scoring, whilst in the Holte End(Twat) Peterborough away, the one when we had streakers and most of the ground and lost. This was by OUR fans and a pile of limestone left outside the ground being hurled towards where i was sitting in my car! Back in the 70's about 200 of us went in the Holt End by mistake. All was ok until Peter Rodriguez scored the only goal of the game for us. The Holt End emptied with 10 minutes to go, they were all waiting outside for us. Me and two mates managed to sneak through them, all was ok until one of my mates got his leicester scarf out and started waving it around! We got chased by about 50 of them, ran into a car park, ran over the bonnets of the parked cars and leapt over a a low wall - unfortunately it was a 20 foot drop to the street below! Luckily we were all 'young lads' so managed to cope with the fall. Still remember peeling ourselves off the pavement, looking up and seeing all these Brummies looking down at us - happy days. And does anyone else remember the battle of Filbert Street when all the Forest (or was it Sheffield United?) fans got in the Kop? Think it may have been David Nish's debut game. That was the day 'The Hinckley Mob' (proud member!), starting singing amongst all these away fans, and what seemed like the whole ground ran on to the pitch to join us in the Kop. MORE happy days. It just aint the same anymore (thank the f**k, but I do sometimes miss the 'rush' we used to get.) In fact, thinking about it, this must've been late 60's. OMG!!
Guest MattP Posted 21 October 2011 Posted 21 October 2011 at anyone whose toughest away day involved "fox travel".
The Doctor Posted 21 October 2011 Posted 21 October 2011 at anyone whose toughest away day involved "fox travel". tbf it's tough to retain your sanity when using fox travel.
Tom17LCFC Posted 21 October 2011 Posted 21 October 2011 Abandoned Forest is up there. Could really feel it stirring up there. I remember Birmingham away after La Manga when we won 1-0, it just seemed like there was fighting on every corner and police everywhere. Would love to do a Europe away one day with Leicester though, atmosphere sounds mental!
Guest Bilo Posted 21 October 2011 Posted 21 October 2011 A Turkish side away in the Europa League would probably be the point where I'd say 'fvck that.' The Balkans can get pretty nasty if you don't keep your head down as well.
Neil_LCFC Posted 21 October 2011 Posted 21 October 2011 The FA cup game at the Old Den when we were 1 nil up and last 2-1 last min with Walshy sent off was quite bad. Also Red Star in Vienna was really intimidating for such a small crowd all there fans were nutters ! Perhaps the worse for me tho was away at Ayresome Park last game of the season in the late 80's when they only needed a draw or so for auto promotion against a mid table Leicester side managed by Pleat with nothing to play for. We won 2-0 and sent Villa up auto and condemned Boro to the playoffs where they would have the riots with Chelsea . After the game there were gangs on every corner . We were chased allover the place couldn't find our car and when we did got it attacked ,pretty nasty stuff. Saw a few leicester fans who had had a right kicking.

I can remember several 'Battles of Filbert St' but I think the one you refer to was against Forest in 1971 ?? They got in the kop (before the pens) and were chased out across the pitch. I was in the Main Stand enclosure where loads of them jumped over the wall to escape. Of the other battles I can remember one was against Villa in about '79 ish when the police put them in Pen 1 after the old away corner over flowed. I was in Pen 2 and got caught right in the middle as the Pen 3 Leicester loonies piled into Pen 2 to attack the Villa mob. Both sets of fans ended up on the pitch to continue the fighting. The infirmary was busy that day. The Newcastle match in about '91 was also a bit nasty. A Geordie lost an eye that day.
wagfox Posted 21 October 2011 Posted 21 October 2011 Arsenal away in the 70s on my own, got attacked by gooners with sharpened brolly ends, then coach totally bricked leaving Highbury. NUTTERS!! HaHa
