Ozwin Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Stolen from here: http://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/157498-most-intimidating-place-youve-been-to-see-wednesday/ Great read, hearing about all these stories that happened in the 70s and 80s, kind of wish I was old enough to have at least experienced something similar just the once. The rush of being in a place like the old Den must have been incredible. So yeah, old fogies of FoxesTalk, share your stories.
purpleronnie Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Believe it or not probably stamford bridge (circa 1987) or the old den. The last time I felt a little intimidated was 1993 (ha) at Old Trafford, although walking around OT at night with a leicester flag and blue balloons probably wasnt the best idea. How times have changed eh?
Finnegan Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 The Ricoh Arena. Ghost towns give me the creeps.
Donut Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 It wasnt a hostile atmosphere, but ive experienced the support at Sunderland and it was possibly the most passionate ive experienced either that or a packed Elland Road
jonthefox Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Probably when we played Burton albion at the baseball ground. 85 or thereabouts.
I am Rod Hull Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Yeah ! The Old Den (Cold Blow Lane).... Women and Kids giving throat slashing gestures....
cc_star Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 The area I parked in to go & see us lose 5-1 (I think) to ManCity in the FA Cup at Maine Rd was a nightmare. Went to Wolves when Molyneux was new & there was loads of trouble in an underpass when it was the only way to get to popular away fans parking, in the ground we were on a lower tier & had stuff chucked at us the whole game, it was a capacity crowd & the atmosphere was electric. But the moss side old maine road ground of ManCity was deffo the most intimidating overall.
Ozwin Posted 19 October 2011 Author Posted 19 October 2011 The area I parked in to go & see us lose 5-1 (I think) to ManCity in the FA Cup at Maine Rd was a nightmare. "Initially we parked up at Moss side, not knowing the reputation of the place. As we were getting out of the car, a young kid who couldn't have been much older than 7 said "mind your car for ya mister" My mate told him to f*** off the young kid just said "don't expect it to have wheels when you get back" so we moved the car."
Chairman of the Bored Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 1. Chelski away 1980. Lost 0-1. Took six coaches, two got bricked. OB disappeared. Carnage. 2. Red Star Belgrade in Vienna wasn't that pleasant. 3. Old Den was always a nightmare. I got jumped by Swindon fans on my very first away trip with City in 1970. The bastards nicked my scarf! I was 13. Muppets.
Donut Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Did any of you attend a Filbert Street friendly vs Rangers? Ive hear people dubbed it the ''Battle of Burnmoor Street''. Love if people could shed light on this
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Probably West Ham in 2002, but I've never been to a particularly "bad" ground due to not attending football in the 80s. Forest the First in 2007 was pretty tense, but it didn't feel especially dangerous. I think anyone who went to Vienna might win this thread.
Ozwin Posted 19 October 2011 Author Posted 19 October 2011 Is Vienna the one where their fans got on a train hoping to start something with the Leicester fans but were trapped on either side by the Baby Squad who subsequently beat the living **** out of them?
martyn Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 The Old Den without a shadow of doubt. Not something I enjoyed as an 8/9 year old.
ChrisJager Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 An old fogey speaking. When the riots took place in August, there was talk of postponing the next Saturday's matches, but sense prevailed. I went to the Walkers to see us play Reading, and walking round the stadium beforehand it struck me what a pleasant atmosphere it was. People enjoying themselves, no aggro, no baiting of away fans as far as I could see, kids having fun in the mini-fairground. What a contrast with some of the times I visited Filbert Street in the past where there were idiots looking to see what trouble they could cause. Even after the match when we were all rather disgruntled with the performance, I saw no threatening behaviour. Long may it continue that way.
Webbo Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Probably my first away at Orient when we won promotion under Jock. It wasn't the Orient fans so much as the London Police, vicious bastards.
purpleronnie Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Is Vienna the one where their fans got on a train hoping to start something with the Leicester fans but were trapped on either side by the Baby Squad who subsequently beat the living **** out of them? Doubt it.
Ashley Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Is Vienna the one where their fans got on a train hoping to start something with the Leicester fans but were trapped on either side by the Baby Squad who subsequently beat the living **** out of them? The story is posted somewhere on here, they attacked families(leicester fans) and the BS got to them and gave them a good pasting. Someone said there was a video of it on the net, probably been taken down now. But there is a video on the net of Red Star throwing flares at Leicester fans.

UEFA Cup in 2001 (?). Moved from Belgrade to Vienna because had we have played it in Serbia, none of us would have got out alive. Post-Balkan wars Brit bashing and all that. Lots of Serbs in Vienna so generally an unpleasant welcome. I actually stood next to an Austrian polis with a sub-machine gun, and that was in the ground! Flares chucked in at us. Nastiness in the city centre. But probably not a major incident, just lots of little ones. And we lost. The irony is I traveled through Yugoslavia before it went to war and it was a great place; Belgrade, Zagreb, some jolly nice folk. Just shows what happens if you're not on their side in the trenches.

I found this: But the quality isn't great. Definately looks like a hostile environment to be in though, some right animals on both sides. EDIT: Found a bit more. They got fines for throwing flares on the pitch and at our fans. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/leicester_city/963604.stm Highlights of the actual game:
The Doctor Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Wouldn't say any place I've been to was intimidating - forest away a couple of years back was slightly hostile but, by dint of being one of the younger generation and not really attending aways until 2/3 years ago, I've never experienced much in terms of intimidating grounds.
ajthefox Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 I got threatened by a 40 year old bloke when walking out of Brammal lane last year....
Fox92 Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Nottingham Forest away was pretty intimidating once the game got called off.
