Abe & Wellens

It's funny how everyone loved Abe last season, when he was doing very little, yet now he's a scapegoat, and after Watford where I thought he was very good and in fact the best of our midfielders, everyone was saying he was 'the weak link'.

Don't get me wrong though, Abe and Wellens were terrible today, then again so was Johnson, I thought the whole midfield wasn't just poor but quite lazy as well, they gave up at times in the second half.

The whole team was atrocious as a unit and for me, the midfield in particular are playing way below potential as individuals.

I want Danns in. He has pace, and is energetic, which is something that Abe, Wellens, Fernandes and King do not offer.

I didn't think the midfield were good again. We still haven't got that bite in my opinion. I said in the summer, we should go for Nick Montgomery at Sheffield United. He may be a **** but he will get his foot in and win the ball back just like Shaun Derry did for QPR throughout last season.

Anyway, I'd like to see a 4-4-2 with two wingers and Danns and Johnson in the middle of midfield for West Ham United away.

Agreed Danns needs a run in the side.

I'd like to see

Kasper

Peltier-Bamba-Mills-Konchesky

Gelson-Johnson

Schlupp Danns Dyer

Nugent

Wellens was awful, passing all over the place and his first half free-kick which went nowhere near anybody summed up the day.

Rumours on Twitter before the game said that once Danns found he wasn't in the 16 today, he got into his car and left the ground.

Shame if this is true - he'd have been a cert to start at Upton Park next week.

Abe was fine but Wellens on the other hand was a disgrace. Didn't even deserve to watch the game let alone play in it, one of the most embarrassing performances by a captain I've ever seen watching Leicester. Not one ball had any desire about it. Any ball to wing went backwards. Deliveries well we best move on from that and to be captain well that was a joke. Only one person deserves to be captain and that's Kasper ()

I heard about this on the radio on the way, he just went back to fetch his family so he could watch the game with them

Danns like all the other midfielders is performing below potential, yes he's got a bit of pace and trickery, but has shown little so far.

People are really missing the point, yes we can slate midfielders and suggest other ones should be in, but which midfielder is standing out as deserving of a place? We have chosen numerous different midfields and different formations, none have worked for a number of games.

We have good midfielders here no doubt about it, they aren't shit, but they are performing beneath themselves. Sven needs to get them playing to their best, that is what good managers do.

How long will Wellens continue to play this short square pass bollocks, he makes no positive runs, we were most fluent against Derby and that was with him sidelined.

Abe is vital to us in his role in the diamond because he knows how to cover and support whereas Wellens is completely clueless.

Abe keeps it simple and then you have Wellens who is all over the place.

Abe is a fantastic player who is very underrated as a lot of his play goes unnoticed but he's a very discplined player who allows the team to keep it's necessary shape, it was Wellens who cost us today.

I cannot believe you are criticising wellens when we have Andy King in the side - he was totally and absolutely anonymous all game - far too leightweight. King has been shocking since January. Wellens was committed and was holding out in midfield. king was abysmal and he is woefully short and pathetic of late. he needs to roll his sleeves up and get stuck in rather than strolling round the pitch like he's been given a free reign. Andy King = most frustrating player in a a blue shirt in teh last few seasons. he has potential but needs to step up to the plate. looks to me like he's been found out.

I would say Sven cost us today, not one player.

Abe does very little, like king. I'd much rather have a very disciplined player who can help keep the teams shape but who actually also contributes to the game.

I love wellens but i'm starting to come to terms with the fact hes getting old and i really do think hes loosing his touch and he always looks knackered! I think it time to change things let danns have a good run in the team i rate him hes strong, fast and loves getting forward.

As for abe hes settling in very well been impressed with him he never stops running and looks good on the ball.

Obviously not just Wellens cost us but you could say many people did.

For example, some will say the Ref for giving that penalty or Beckford 'cos he's the next Yakubu' or Sven like you've said.

I've looked into more technical details and two of Millwall's goals came down our left when Koncheskey was exposed and Wellens should have been covering - that wasn't the case and so we conceded twice and so imo Wellens and Sven are to blame.

Because Wellens' has a reputation for being one of the best midfielders in the league, and was captain today.

In both respects he fell well short.

Yeh I agree with you, the part about him not covering is very true. But I think there were other players who played equally as bad, and the constant underperforming of our team and midfield in particular points to Sven being the problem, because we have plenty of good players.

Sven also at fault for the fact he brings on a left winger clearly directed to run at the RB and fire balls in, yet his first 3 crosses see only one blue shirt anywhere near the ball because of how he has set the rest of the team up. Clueless

Yeh I know, very frustrating, we desperately needed a goal and we STILL weren't positive enough.

TBF though, had we played as we did in the first 15 minutes of the second half from minute one, I think we'd have won. We surrendered the points in the first half, much like at Birmingham, because we weren't positive when supposedly trying to create.
