Craigob1 Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 i think sven is mainly to blame cause some of the poor dealings during the summers transfer window .. beckford really worth 4million? Mills really worth 5 million? i think he has made some really bad decisions this summer which has really cost us .. what do you think?
Fox92 Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 I think he made some suspect signings. Fernandes, Johnson and Danns are central midfielders - yet Johnson and Fernandes are the same player as Wellens, King and Abe. We have too many central midfielders, and one game a player might be decent, yet, he'll be dropped for another game. It's frustrating. Danns is our only midfielder with pace, yet, Sven kept picking King/Abe/Wellens/Johnson as a combination and all are the same type of player with no pace. The Beckford signing was questionable as well to me. Ok, we needed a striker but I felt like it was rushed because we couldn't get Maynard, Long or Yakubu. I didn't get excited over Beckford, he scored a lot of goals in League 1 and grabbed 8 goals in a good Everton team. Sven did well to identify we needed a centre half, goalkeeper and two full backs. But it's back to that again; St. Ledger is already moaning because he wasn't getting in. £5million for Mills was perhaps over the top, but, what else was Sven meant to do? Mills showed he was one of the best centre halfs in the division with Reading. I am pleased with the signing of Kasper, Peltier and Nugent though. I think selling the wrong players maybe an issue as well. For example, does St. Ledger look any better than Jack Hobbs?
dannythefox Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 No way the players we've brought in are quality judge them when they've played in the right position/formation!
fox ache Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 Schlupp leading scorer.................cant get a game, Dyer struggles to get on, even Howard who got 2 assists against Derby never makes the bench. King, top scorer last season probably gets paid half of what Beckford does, i feel there are bad feelings in the camp
Fox92 Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 No way the players we've brought in are quality judge them when they've played in the right position/formation! That is another error by Sven then, if you are suggesting we were not playing the right formation. Sven should have had that sorted, isn't that what pre-season is for?
moseeds Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 It can't be that wrong a team I can't remember the last time we kept so many clean sheets. If the attacking play started to come together the team would have become unbeatable quite easily.

davelcfc100 Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 The players bought in hasn't been the problem, in fact for the money we paid for them, if u look at them in total for 10mill+ isn't bad at all, but not enough attention on certain areas has cost us so far
Fox92 Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 Yes totally agree he should have sorted it out thats why he needed to go. I wasn't sticking up for him. Alright. I wasn't getting on at you either, it was just a point in general.
Craigob1 Posted 24 October 2011 Author Posted 24 October 2011 the only good thing to come from all this is that its still early in the season , and the new man in charge whoever it may be has the time to get the correct formation / system and strenghen again in january with the right combination of players which we do need .. wingers with pace !!!!
Mythyaar Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 Alienating Hobbs and Fryatt, sidelining Dyer, Gallagher and even King for a time were pretty unforgivable. Settling for a point away from home even before we kicked off even worse. Not having the personality or charisma to persuade Maynard, Long or Mackail Smith to come show his personal shortcomings. Buying a useless mercenary like Beckford....well only a useless mercenary like Sven could do that! Showing a complete tactical incompetence throughout the back end of last season (when we should have made the play offs) and this season (why so many ankle biters with zero initiative in central midfield?) show he's lost it, if he ever had it that is. The guy was a bigger fraud than the fake Arab millionaires he was chatting with in the undercover sting when England manager. Good riddance I say, please come back MON!
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 Sven in the summer was like one of us on FM. Sees lots of 'supposed' quality players available and gets them all, not knowing who to pick in what formation and leaving us with too many players. Poor man management really.

The same Hobbs who played plenty of matches under Sven. The same Gallagher who many fans still don't rate. WE never even had bids accepted for Maynard and Long, so I'm not sure how Sven could've persuaded them to come.
fox_in_the_box_8 Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 this is all a bit blind to the bigger picture, yea we spent a large amount of money, but we were always going to have to. As soon as other clubs became aware of our very public takeover they were always going to take advantage, a player cost more just because it was leicester buying, man city and chelsea had the same problem on a slightly larger scale with their takeovers! As for the system sven is playing the system he has always played, so what did we expect??? Solid back 2 built like they used to build them, full backs with pace creating width in the middle of the pitch but able to get back, 3 central midfielders to dominate play and posession, and 3 strikers or 2 and 1 playing off to overwhelm the defence, its the way he does it and it works and has been working! Clean sheets, Dominate play, more corners, more shots on and off target generally, hes got the system all right, bar the final third! Poor signings up front have failed him, what we had wasnt strong enough, but niether is this. positioning and tactics of the first 8 and the bench is strong, but its not coming together up front yet, however it seems its this bit that counts more than anything as we have seen so many times before.

I think selling the wrong players maybe an issue as well. For example, does St. Ledger look any better than Jack Hobbs? Summed it up perfectly Too many similar players, or at least players with overlapping skill-sets left us unable to cope when Plan A wasn't working (it only worked in 5 out 13 games, which isn't great given the investment, in fact it's pretty poor) Given the 5 sub rule it was going to be impossible to keep people happy, SSL already opening moaning is a sign of this and it's extraordinarily early in the season for that to happen + how is Howard & Schlupp meant to feel when Beckford is in the team ahead of them, this can be replicated all over the pitch. Peltier has been amazing, but that leaves a Premier League international in Pantsil benched, how long until he was unhappy too?
