StanSP Posted 3 November 2011 Share Posted 3 November 2011 3rd instalment of my annual 'In Music' thread! Following the same routine as the previous 2 years, what are you looking forward to in 2012? Any new artists about that you think will breakthrough and we should look out for? Any comebacks on the horizon? Taking a quick glance at Wikipedia's list, Linkin Park, Lostprophets, Wu Tang Clan, Queens of the Stone Age and The Strokes all have albums scheduled for release within 2012. They stand out for me. More can be seen here . (That's just American Music though). Back home, and for personal taste, I'm looking forward to Enter Shikari's new album, A Flash Flood of Colour, which has a song called 'Gandhi Mate, Gandhi' on it! And around in the first few months, Young Guns and Francesqa have albums scheduled for release too, so definitely keeping an eye on those. I presume this will be updated nearer 2012 and throughout 2012.
The Doctor Posted 3 November 2011 Share Posted 3 November 2011 Looking forward to Shikari at the very start of the year (9th Jan release date). As far as I'm aware Muse are looking at a 6th album release next year at some point while according to wikipedia Bloc Party are in the studio, while Them Crooked Vultures were reportedly looking at a late 11, early 12 release for a second album. StanSP Posted 3 November 2011 Author Share Posted 3 November 2011 Just seen that The Killers have their fourth album, Battle Born, in the making for next year. 'A heavier use of guitars [more so than Day & Age]' will be used for this album.

The Doctor Posted 11 December 2011 Share Posted 11 December 2011 Possibly not 2012 but: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=157804 AC/DC guitarist Angus Young revealed at the band's "Live At River Plate" DVD premiere last night (Friday, May 6) at the Hammersmith Apollo in London, England that there are plans for the group to release a new studio album "within the next couple of years. He said, "Well, at some point we'll be touring again once we get a new album out, which will hopefully be within the next couple of years." And also: http://ultimateclassicrock.com/zz-top-new-album-march-2012/ Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top says in a new interview that the band’s next album will finally be released in March or April of next year (2012). He also broke down the process of songwriting in a new and unique, and yet not fully unexpected way. Gibbons tells the Lehigh Valley Express-Times that the tactic for identifying the traits of a good song can be traced back to a slightly more adult experience. “It’s like Supreme Court Justice Stewart said about the definition of pornography, ‘I can’t describe it but I know it when I see it’.” Technology is helpful to the process, but ultimately, Gibbons notes, you have to have a little bit of talent in that noggin, because there’s no “microprocessor” that’s going to help you generate a catchy ditty like ‘I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide’ – that piece is something that has to come from within. The upcoming ZZ Top album, produced by Rick Rubin, is motoring towards completion. Gibbons says that basic recordings have been completed but that the record still needs to be “mixed, mastered and named.” Also according to wiki - Aerosmith are releasing a new album in May and Alice In Chains are back in the studio, as are Maximo Park. Stay Positive Posted 11 December 2011 Share Posted 11 December 2011 Hopefully Neil Young will release a new studio album, and I know The Hold Steady are about due to release one over the next 12 months. Also, I collected all the Madness re-issues, and on the spine of those it spells the letters "M A D N E S!" and they never got round to releasing the one with the final "S" to complete the reissue program. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that will happen too.

The Doctor Posted 11 December 2011 Share Posted 11 December 2011 January was there last one I think so may release one mid year not sure. Fingers crossed although not fussed as I'm still well in to there current one Try September for Velociraptor! Even if they want to launch straight into another album, by the time they finish touring Velociraptor! and get back in the studio, they probably won't have time to get tracks recorded, mixed and produced in time for another album next year. Edit: Oh and I'm sure I heard something about Serge's missus having a kid, they won't be hitting the studio straight away.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 11 December 2011 Share Posted 11 December 2011 January was there last one I think so may release one mid year not sure. Fingers crossed although not fussed as I'm still well in to there current one As Large Al said it was September and with them currently touring with that album and in an interview i heard them needing to spend time with family. They will be pushing shit up hill to have a new album ready for this time next year.

Joe. Posted 12 December 2011 Share Posted 12 December 2011 The xx's new album is the one record I'm genuinely excited to listen to next year. Yep, can't wait to see how they've progressed. I think one genuinely defines the 'difficult second album'. Maccabees, Offspring (?!) and Bloc Party are the only ones that really interest me from what I can see on that Wiki page. Langston Posted 13 December 2011 Share Posted 13 December 2011 Trent Reznor admitted to Zane Lowe the other night he was writing with Nine Inch Nails 'in mind.' Not got my hopes up for any material any time soon but it's a glimmer of light none the less.

Stay Positive Posted 27 December 2011 Share Posted 27 December 2011 Craig Finn's debut solo album is out in January. Can't wait for that one. Seeing as it's his lyrics that make The Hold Steady what they are, I have high hopes.

Stay Positive Posted 27 December 2011 Share Posted 27 December 2011 What do you think of Franz Nicolays solo stuff? I love it, such a great storyteller and musician I've only heard "Major General", which is an enjoyable debut, though I have to say that "Jeff Penalty" is by far the best track on it.
