Derby's Criminal Masterminds Suspects snared in free beer sting Posted on 11th November 2011 Nineteen people suspected of committing crimes in Derbyshire have been arrested after being offered free beer by police as part of an undercover operation. Officers sent letters to dozens of suspects who had evaded arrest for several months asking them to ring a marketing company to collect a free crate of beer. A total of 19 suspects fell for the hoax and called the number which put them through to police officers based at Chesterfield Police Station. A time and date was arranged for the free alcohol to be dropped off and the suspects were arrested. The sting was carried out as part of Operation Rocky, a month-long campaign targeting serious acquisitive crime across north Derbyshire. It is running across Chesterfield, NE Derbyshire, Bolsover and Amber Valley until Sunday, November 27. Chief Inspector Graham McLaughlin, who is leading the operation, said: "These suspects are people who have managed to evade arrest for some time so we have used different tactics to find them. "It has been very cost effective as it can take a lot of time and money to track people down. "We use a variety of methods to arrest those suspected of committing criminal offences and we will continue to use new tactics when necessary." Alleged offences committed by some of those arrested range from burglary and robbery to a serious sexual assault. Suspects were arrested from addresses in Chesterfield, Staveley, Alfreton and Ilkeston as well as Sheffield and Nottingham. For more information about Operation Rocky visit www.derbyshire.police.uk.

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 13 November 2011 Posted 13 November 2011 An official at Derby County F.C. has now come forward, and admitted to police, that the club is responsible. Speaking earlier today, prior to being led away by police officers, he said. "We at Derby are now close to desperation We realized that they would be a great improvement on our current flood lights, and thought we could get away with it. However, an escaped Yew witnessed the theft, and threatened to turn us in, unless we could provide her with a decent Ram. However, since we none, I had no alternative but to own up." Police say that further arrests will follow shortly. All nine members of Derby County Supporters Club refused to comment.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 13 November 2011 Posted 13 November 2011 I was wondering what you meant with "Yew" until I read "Ram". Thought they'd had a bush with the law.

Tielemans63 Posted 8 December 2011 Posted 8 December 2011 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-15701380 Thieves steal Derby's Christmas lights "The switch-on of Derby's festive illuminations could be delayed after thieves stole more than £20,000 of Christmas lights and equipment. The lights were stolen from storage at Markeaton Park using the cherry picker lorry which would have been used to install them in the city centre. Contractors could struggle to find replacements before this year's ceremony, the city council said. The theft took place at about 05:00 GMT on Thursday. A second break-in was reported at the storage depot on Friday night. Nothing was stolen on this occasion but a wall was damaged. Phil Derbyshire, head of maintenance and energy at the council, said: "Contractors were on target for installing the Christmas lights around the city centre. "This will now impact on us getting the lights ready for the switch-on on 19 November. "Our contractor is doing their best to source replacements but clearly there is high demand for these types of products at this time of the year. Every effort is being made to get us back on programme." The stolen lorry is a white Iveco Cherry Picker with yellow Versalift ET38NF cradle and has the registration number Y83 KDK. Anyone with information should contact Derbyshire Police or Crimestoppers." I'm so diappointed for the good folk of Derby... GUTTED!
