Houdini Logic Posted 14 November 2011 Posted 14 November 2011 Did you know that this is a remake of a French film? The French make some brilliant thrillers. I forget it's name but I saw it on Film4 last year and it was very good. I just bought eden lake on bluray but not watched it yet. Check out Martyrs, another brilliant French gore-fest. No, I didn't know that. I've just had a quick look and it said it's a remake of Them, which I don't understand because I saw the remade version of Them around the same time at the cinema?! And I'm sure that was Romanian. Hmmm.. I'll check out Martyrs and make sure you post your opinion on Eden Lake once you've watched it. Either way it's reminded me that Them also gave me that strange feeling afterwards...

The women get treated so badly in that film !
Tielemans63 Posted 14 November 2011 Posted 14 November 2011 I'm a right fooking wuss when it comes to graphic films and I don't mind telling you. I was sweating buckets watching American Psycho. I'd probably blub watching something like Saw! I'm not casting aspersions on anyone else but I couldn't watch a graphic rape scene - I'll never understand why people find that entertaining. I can stomach violent movies but don't get any pleasure at all from torture films. I read the premise of a film like The Human Centipede 2 and some of the events that occur in that film and I can't help but wonder why the **** anyone would want to see that?
topharry123 Posted 14 November 2011 Posted 14 November 2011 Good point! This is shocking for completely different reasons... please say someone else has seen this!!!! I saw it, and it was one of the most hilarious films i've ever seen! Not a second of planned comedy in it, but has to go down as one of the worst acted films i've ever seen !
21st Century Fox Posted 14 November 2011 Posted 14 November 2011 I saw it, and it was one of the most hilarious films i've ever seen! Not a second of planned comedy in it, but has to go down as one of the worst acted films i've ever seen ! Its unbelievable isn't it! How no one at any point in the conception, writing, rehearsals, filming, editing of this film told Tommy Wiseau that it was the worst thing ever committed to film I'll never know. I'm proud to say I have a signed copy of the DVD haha. If people haven't seen it they'll assume these scenes have been doctored in some way... they haven't... they really haven't.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ4KzClb1C4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7S9Ew3TIeVQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Plz-bhcHryc
Houdini Logic Posted 14 November 2011 Posted 14 November 2011 That has to be some sort of take the piss, even if they've never admitted it. It just has to be.
21st Century Fox Posted 14 November 2011 Posted 14 November 2011 That has to be some sort of take the piss, even if they've never admitted it. It just has to be. Its really not. That guy wrote, directed, produced and financed it and released it as a drama. Obviously no one saw it and anyone who had laughed at it, so he re-released it as a black comedy!! They still have midnight screenings of it all over the world and he's made a fortune from his own ineptitude. If he'd done that on purpose he'd be an absolute genius but sadly I don't think thats the case. Another classic scene.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLs-PkfUS2g and this excellent line deliver...
jimmer Posted 14 November 2011 Posted 14 November 2011 +1 for Event Horizon.....watched it on the big screen when I was 16 scared the shit outta me! propper sweaty palms job Another one that scared the big jeezus outta me was pennywise....again was way too young to be watching that crap! cheers dad! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8n2v9fUa4Vc&feature=related +1 for Eden Lake...too close to the nerve, you can just imagine it happening.
FallenAngel Posted 15 November 2011 Posted 15 November 2011 I'm not shocked too easily and i love a hood gorey film, especially clever ones like Saw when that first came out. Ones that stick in my mind are Childs Play and Dr Giggles, the latter one showing a woman being forced to have her stomach pumped whilst it's being "blended". I've seen worse films since but I did watch these at an early age
lcfcadam Posted 15 November 2011 Posted 15 November 2011 Didn't sleep very well after watching this. Just seen this is available free on Google Video, definitely going to watch. Although what's with the ****ing spiders at the start?! Never, ever put spiders on screen without warning!!
topharry123 Posted 15 November 2011 Posted 15 November 2011 Not seen this but was told it was pretty bad, so read the synopsis on Wkipedia Anyone seen it to confirm how bad it is? Can you buy the unrated and unedited version? I read quite a few reviews saying the version that you can buy on dvd miss out two key shocker points in the movie.

Unadulterated shitty brilliance.
Stay Positive Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 I've seen A Serbian Film. It is absolutely horrific to be honest, though some of the more shocking stuff you read on the synopsis is either alluded to by the reactions of the characters or shot from clever angles. The rape and murder scene though is very graphic and to say it's difficult to watch would be to downplay. The Human Centipede is very soft in terms of the way it is filmed. The premise is vile but there is little there that's actually graphic and the film isn't particularly powerful or shocking. Perhaps the most horrific film I've seen though is Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom by Pasolini. It's based on a Marquis de Sade novel and has some disgusting scenes in it, very unflinching. I joke about how I'm unshockable but that film really made me feel grubby watching it. Seconded.
Houdini Logic Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 The made the 120 days of sodom into a film?! That must be one long, uneasy watch - the books bigger than the bible!
MC Prussian Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 Those are excellent. Unadulterated shitty brilliance. For some strange reason I think Wiseau is Continental European, possibly German, Swiss or Austrian. So much for shock value.
21st Century Fox Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 For some strange reason I think Wiseau is Continental European, possibly German, Swiss or Austrian. So much for shock value. Wiseau also announced in a 2011 interview that he was currently designing his own line of leather underwear, the distribution for which was still being negotiated. Oh Wikipedia.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 Sorry, I thought you said films that shook. EDIT: There's some shocking hairstyles in there though.
topharry123 Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 There's no point watching the dvd version. Just download the full length. Do you know a safe site to download the full version? Thanks !
Stay Positive Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 The made the 120 days of sodom into a film?! That must be one long, uneasy watch - the books bigger than the bible! Well it FELT long. I would NEVER recommend that film to ANYONE.
MikeyT Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 Eden Lake Never has a film left me feeling so strange - I couldn't watch TV or anything after, just had to go to bed Just watched it thanks to your review and all I have to say is this..........................................................
