Leicester City now represent a “massive threat” to Saints’ automatic promotion hopes.

That is the view of former Dell ace Gordon Watson after Nigel Pearson was re-appointed manager of the Foxes.

And Watson believes the man controversially axed as Saints boss three years ago “will go right to the top.”

Pearson this week returned to the King Power Stadium for a second spell, after leaving his job at Hull.

He replaces Sven Goran Eriksson, who was canned after a mediocre start to the season.

Leicester are currently 12th in the Championship, 14 points behind leaders Saints.

But Watson believes the Foxes are serious title contenders again now that Pearson is at the helm.

“They’re a massive threat,” said Watson.

I've read those words but would love to know the substance of his reasoning cos my old sports editor, Doug Johnson, would have thrown such twaddle back with the comment: "We don't do horoscopes, Mystic Meg or any other sort of baseless bullshit predictions."

.

Do people really believe Pearson is going to stand there like some Fairy Godmother, wave his magic wand, and suddenly transform all the problems of an underperforming squad and unhappy fringe players?

Yes, there may well be a lift, but today's results have already left us with a little bit more to do than when Pearson arrived and, while I do think there are grounds for some sustained improvement being made, there'll be others making improvements too - and all while Southampton and West Ham keep attacking their way forward at every opportunity.

To seriously expect Pearson to win us automatic promotion from our current position is fantasy. Of course it is possible. But Adkins has collected 100 points at Southampton faster than any other manager in their history and amassed 20 consecutive home wins. Is anyone seriously expecting his team to implode at the sort of rate we'll need? For me there's no chance.

And what about West Ham? Why should they falter dramatically? Southampton are 17 points ahead of us and West Ham 12 points in front. Quite apart from the chances of someone else having a run and our need to beat Palace to even advance from mid table, the only thing Leicester City should be focused on right now is winning against Palace tomorrow, and then the game after that.

Our target right now should be the play-offs because anything else will impose totally unrealistic pressures on everyone.

If we win more football matches than Southampton then we could go above them.

That's how this game works, right?

In fact, I've heard that you can win consecutive games in football too, I wonder if Nigel knows that as well?

errm you have to remain hopeful of course but at the moment Southamoton and West Ham look like they will stroll to the top 2 automatic spots

Bang on. Our chances of automatic promotion have long gone. Playoffs we can make, and as usual they will be a lottery.

I don't think you can say the top 2 is out of reach just yet, it's November and it's the championship. Reading nearly made the top two last season and they didn't start playing well until at least January.

But i'd be absolutely delighted with a play off spot, and if Nigel can bring some organisation and consistency to the team, the squad is definitely capable of getting that.
