Katy Posted 1 July 2005 Posted 1 July 2005 Colly is right, I know pre season starts today but we've signed players late on before, I think CL is keeping his cards close to his chest. I reckon we will be seeing a striker in before August 6th.

They only had MDV, Wyness and the centre half Weir upfront when Levein was in charge last season!
Ric Flair Posted 1 July 2005 Posted 1 July 2005 I haven't finished shopping - Levein by BILL ANDERSON Leicester City's new-look squad reported back for pre-season training today with the promise of more new arrivals on the horizon. And when the players hit the training pitches for their gruelling work-outs, they will be well aware that competition for places is expected to get hotter in the lead-up to the new season. After the comings-and-goings of the summer, City boss Craig Levein insists he is still looking to further strengthen his squad. With the midfield department well served, he continues to eye targets for the defence and attack. And after landing goalkeeper Rab Douglas and Momo Sylla from Celtic, Levein has been strongly linked with another Parkhead player, the left-sided defender Ulrik Laursen who has already confirmed City's interest. Laursen has to work out a severance deal with Celtic as he is still under contract, just as Sylla was, and no progress can be made until then. If Laursen does arrive, it would add spice to City's friendly against Celtic at the Walkers Stadium on July 19. Levein has other targets in mind but is keeping those under wraps until he is in a position to reveal more of his plans. It is unlikely to be one-way traffic as there could also be players on the move. Levein has already declared the likes of Peter Canero, Tommy Wright and Matt Heath are available for transfer, as any saving on the wage bill will help. The next few days could be significant as Levein wants any more new men in as quickly as possible. City open their pre-season action at Kettering a week on Sunday before their two-game trip to Norway from July 12-17, and Levein is determined to have added to his numbers in good time. It appears he is still after strikers.
Scow Posted 1 July 2005 Posted 1 July 2005 and Stearman (who CL hasn't even played at centre-half yet as he doesn't feel he is ready)130409 He played Stearman as centreback against Plymouth last game of the season, albeit as a second half sub.
Louise Posted 1 July 2005 Posted 1 July 2005 I'd believe MB's word over Blanderson's any day. We need another striker and I still think there is a possibility of us getting one. However, looking at MB's information first he says 'we're going to sign 4 more players' then he says 'none of those 4 is a striker' so logically it sounds as if we're not going to get another striker. We could sign more than 4 more players of course but MB seemed pretty definitive with that figure...

I think perhaps Levein hasn't got any strikers in mind at present because they've all fallen through so he'll concentrate on other positions until he finds a striker good enough to fit in with his plans here.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 1 July 2005 Posted 1 July 2005 I've been saying this all along but it's pretty obvious Levein rates Connolly, Dublin and de Vries and prior to last season I think we all would have been happy with having three strikers of their supposed quality. If we do sign another striker I would still imagine it will be a youngster. We don't particularly need a specialist left-back unless CL has suddenly decided he doesn't want Stewart as first-choice after all. What we need, desperately, are centre-backs. At the moment we have McCarthy (still very inexperienced although he looks to be decent enough to be a starter next season), Kisnorbo (completely unknown quantity, seemed to be third choice defensive midfielder at Hearts so probably not going to be a starting centre-back for us this season), Heath (one foot out the door already) and Stearman (who CL hasn't even played at centre-half yet as he doesn't feel he is ready). We need to replace the likes of Keown, Dabizas, Elliott and Kenton who have all left in the past few months. 130409 New left-back please..
Ricey Posted 1 July 2005 Posted 1 July 2005 Very worrying indeed, there is no doubting we need another striker....a decent striker at that. Fingers crossed.
Steven Posted 1 July 2005 Posted 1 July 2005 Seems we may well be after a striker after all. Is Scottish foreign? that`s correct, just because the 4 targets don`t include a striker does`nt mean there won`t be one coming in, in fact, a foreign striker may well be on the way !!!

Gené and Tonic Posted 4 July 2005 Posted 4 July 2005 I trust Levein. Although if he doesn't bring in a striker, and we struggle to get goals. I'd think the pressure would be on him by January to bring in someone.
