jackolcfc Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 Unlucky to get dropped for the Blackpool game?
shilton_fox Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 Possibly as is a very solid defender but if offered the choice of Bamba or St Ledger i'd take Bamba every time. Even with his mad moments!
Guest Col city fan Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 St Ledger is simply a decent squad player.. I'd take Bamba over SSL every day of the week He will either have to accept that he's gonna be used from time to time (eg is Bamba going to the African Cup?) or he will leave.
Jace Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 I prefer Bamba personally but someone on here said the other day they think Pearson might play Bamba for more offensive games and and SSL for games where we will be more rigid and defensive? Not a bad theory and would mean both players are playing regularly. I would give Bamba a run in midfield myself but I can't imagine Pearson dropping Wellens to experiment right now
Simo86 Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 Bamba's pace gets us out of a lot of trouble. Even when he messes up he manages to get back and correct his error. Plus his superiority in the air compared to SSL makes his case even stronger to have been put straight back in the side.
MikeyT Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 i'd take bamba over mills and the ledge. No way.
FoxesFan123 Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 This whole debate between Bamba and SSL is wrong, it should be Bamba AND SSL at centre back. Also was he dropped against Blackpool or was it an injury as he wasn't in the squad?

Bob Weasel Fox Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 St Ledger is going to be a very important member of the squad as the season progresses with illness injury and suspension etc
themotivator Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 its a shame our CB's aren't a little bit more versatile, im sure SSL would have more chances if he could slot in and do a job at full back now and then like ben mee did last year when his playing time was limited. seemingly thats not his game, we clearly need at least 3 decent center backs. but there is no point in breaking the central pairing, who have been playing well enough, for the sake of SSL. players like phil jones have been able to shine playing a number of defensive roles brilliantly.

themotivator Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 St Ledger has played at right back for club and country numerous times. ill keep quiet then he's obviously more of an asset to the squad than i realised. i think its a good kind of selection problem to have rather than not having anyone to play.
nuttytimmy Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 I prefer Bamba personally but someone on here said the other day they think Pearson might play Bamba for more offensive games and and SSL for games where we will be more rigid and defensive? Not a bad theory and would mean both players are playing regularly. I would give Bamba a run in midfield myself but I can't imagine Pearson dropping Wellens to experiment right now This would be a decent assumption to make at this stage, SSL is certainly the more 'defensive' of the pair. I think in a straight fight between them, however, I'd take Bamba over SSL for his pace, height and strength.
LcFc_Smiv Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 This whole debate between Bamba and SSL is wrong, it should be Bamba AND SSL at centre back. Also was he dropped against Blackpool or was it an injury as he wasn't in the squad? Not a chance, SSL looks more uncomfortable than any player I've ever seen when paired with Bamba, almost as if every little trick Bamba tries SSL is one step closer to a heart attack. With Mills however he seems to be more calm and composed and does a good defensive job. Don't get me wrong Bamba's a great addition to the squad, I think SSL is just under more pressure alongside him.
artursteppe Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 This whole debate between Bamba and SSL is wrong, it should be Bamba AND SSL at centre back. Also was he dropped against Blackpool or was it an injury as he wasn't in the squad? SSL is a steady eddy. Very average, competent in this league is the very best you can say. He will always, when receiving a pass, stop the ball, then tickle it forward before kicking it. He seems incapable of kicking a moving ball which is something you usually see in under13 games. He has no long term future with us!
NewburyFox Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 Would personally take Bamba over St Ledger, and I think if Pearson agrees then SSL will request to leave in January. He can't spend the best part of 9 months sitting on the bench and then just stroll into the biggest month of his career fully prepared. He's going to need games in preparation for the Euro's and if Pearson can't guarantee him regular first team football then I'd expect him to want to leave, and who can blame him? If he goes public and says that he wants first team football (providing he's not getting it in early-mid January), I think it'd be a little harsh to lable him a moaner. I'm sure we'd all be fairly cheesed off if we were in his situation,so you couldn't really blame him for doing what he thought was needed to make sure that he got the adequate preparation for what would be his first international tournament and undoubtedly the biggest month in his career. However, I'm sure he'd be labled a whiner, putting country before club, etc. Shame.
Christoph Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 I agree with the general opinion that Mills and Bamba combination is the best combination. I certainly think SSL is more than a capable back up though. You only have to see how well he has played for ireland to see this guy isn't just a "bog standard" championship player.
Fox92 Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 Yeah, I felt he was unlucky to be dropped, but that is football. St. Ledger must have known what he was walking into, and probably must have known he was going to get little football or would be a squad player. I do have faith in St. Ledger though. I think he is a good defender, and a very technical player as well, he was solid for Preston when they made the play offs in this division for a few seasons. At the minute though, I do prefer Bamba and Mills.
Jace Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 Bamba will probably give Pearson a DVD of the Bristol City match for secret Santa this Christmas....
Got Any Uncle Ben's? Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 I've heard Leeds are sniffing......
rico Posted 2 December 2011 Posted 2 December 2011 What a magic film that was!! one of the best comedies ever!
Conscript Fox Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 St Ledger has played at right back for club and country numerous times. He has never played anywhere other than centre half for Ireland. Not once.
