Tunchev played today in the reserves at belvoir drive & looks fit & ready for selection for the 1st team if called upon , played in a strong backline with Chris Weale in goal but for me young centre half George Taft

was the pick of the bunch , seen this young kid play twice now & i think he has a big future , one to watch thats for sure .

A certain ex-Leicester City player with the initials S.P. (a defender) - who later went onto Halifax and Chesterfield - used to be an Academy Coach for the Under 14s/15s (??) I think, says that Liam Moore is the lad with the big future. Apparently they rate him at Bradford.

Much as I'd like to see Tunchev organising our defence, conceding three goals in a reserves game is hardly the perfect confidence booster.

For me he's been allowed to get too ring rusty since his return from Palace. It's hard to know where Tunchev's future lies. To me he's a class footballer who's big strenghs are his reading of the game and ability to play the ball out of danger safely.

But, like Beckford, Mills is the man with the big price tag and big price tags carry a lot of persuasion when it comes to team selection, as Beckford has already demonstrated..

Mills has a presence no question but he's been a liability on legs on occasions. I have to wonder if Sven got a cut from transfer activity because he got rid of Hobbs and replaced him with a bloke who might have been his twin brother when it came to poor passing.

Whatever, Mills has probably cost us points with his indiscipline and I can't imagine that being a problem with Tunchev who looks like he'd stay calm in a riot.

And seeing as Bamba's been as good a centre-back as we've had this season, the question for Pearson to decide is whether SSL or Tunchev is next in the pecking order.

If he's not there's no point in him staying here because he's far too good a player to be sitting doing nothing. Doubtless SSL would say the same.

I wouldn't say he's been allowed to get rusty, he picked up a knock almost as soon as he came back, which in itself is worrying, I wouldn't start blaming him for conceding 3 goals either (unless you were there), Weale was in goal

I would expect Pearson to start with SSL, he has never been one for bold/risky decisions, and then bring Tunchev on after an hour see how he looks alongside Bamba.

Hmmm I can just see him doing that if we've not conceded. Tunchev needs to start or he'll never get a game! I can just see his autobiography when it comes out in a few years. When he posts a picture of our ground, it'll be Belvoir Drive! :D

Don't be silly. Reserves games are top secret now. Only MI5 and The Birch are allowed in.

I know it's ver sad isn't it.

Had they played tonight at a local ground I'd have happily donned the Motty sheepskin and stood there freezing my bojangles off watching every minute happy as larry

Not very good at this link stuff. Hope this works

Swiss international Gelson Fernandes scored four times for a strong City Reserves on Tuesday in an entertaining game against Notts County at Belvoir Drive.

The on-loan Saint Etienne midfielder, playing in the game at his own request, smashed a stunning quadruple in a 6-3 victory, as several members of Nigel Pearson's squad got a valuable workout against the League 1 club.

The likes of Chris Weale, John Pantsil, Aleksandar Tunchev, Yuki Abe, Franck Moussa and Jeff Schlupp were also given match time against the Magpies, as several members of the squad sought to stake their respective claims for a place in the first team.

And development coach Steve Beaglehole, who took charge of the team on Tuesday afternoon, said that, while the goals conceded were a touch disappointing, the all-round approach of an experienced group, and from Fernandes in particular, was superb.

He told lcfc.com: "Gelson wasn't even supposed to play in the game today, but he wanted to get some game time, the manager agreed to it, he scored four goals and he was absolutely outstanding - a fantastic advert for a professional.

"It was a very open game and we were obviously disappointed with conceding three, particularly the manner in which we conceded them. We didn't make Notts County work hard for their goals, we handed them to them.

"But we always encourage playing out from the back and their goals came from us over-playing a little. The application and work-rate was excellent, which is always great to see from a group of established pros.

"Our attacking play was fantastic at times and we could have scored several more than we did.

"We had a lot of players that needed an 11-a-side game so overall it was a very good exercise."

As well as Fernandes, first-year pro Jason Banton stepped off the bench to add his name to the scoresheet, while one of the Club's current group of trialists was also on target.

I've seen Taft play several times when on-loan at Kettering and he's a good player but looks like a solid L1/2 player to me. He's awesome in the air and strong physically but he can't pass for shit and has a habit of winning headers but heading it back to the opposition. Hope I'm wrong.

I really hope Gelson forces himself into the first team he is a quality player and no doubt would be a significant improvement in central midfield alongside King imo.

After Kisnorbo, Brown, Hobbs and Mills the lad should fit in perfectly!

Great attitude from Fernandes considering rumours of a hissy fit.

either that or he had word there were scouts there from his parent club or possible other clubs he might be hoping to impress....

Perfect opportunity to put himself in the shop window...

Public aren't allowed in as it's "behind closed doors".
