Father Ted Posted 31 December 2011 Posted 31 December 2011 Definite penalty and the ref bottled a couple of second yellows for them.
Finnegan Posted 31 December 2011 Posted 31 December 2011 I can only assume you haven't seen any replays yet on the TV. It was stonewall. Mattock was clumsy and took Beckford's legs when he turned on the ball. I can understand how the referee might have an excuse from his angle, but the linesman had a clear line of sight and had no excuse not to flag. No I was at the game and my seat is literally the furthest point away from the penalty. So fair enough if you've seen it up close. From where I was sat he was really blatantly looking for it though.
Bugg Posted 31 December 2011 Posted 31 December 2011 Mullins should have been sent off for kicking Schmeichel's leg as he was about to take the goal kick.
Bert Posted 31 December 2011 Posted 31 December 2011 The first penalty shout I can understand being waved away, but the second was beyond a joke! The officials had a decent first half, but the second half they made a number of poor decisions. Why did he blow his whistle as soon as Jasper took that late free-kick and then let play on? Everyone stopped and then he blew full time!

From where I was sat he was really blatantly looking for it though. I figured that must have been the case. It's one of those frustrating decisions, but the penalty decision shouldn't hide the fact that our second half performance was lackluster and poor (with the exception of the last five minutes).
Dylan Posted 31 December 2011 Posted 31 December 2011 Definite penalty for Beckford at the end- not given... no excuse for the linesman not seeing it. Mullins should've clearly been booked for obstructing Schmeichel's kick- are you telling me not one of the four officials was watching play? If not, they don't know what their doing- should never turn your back on play. Also, don't know how Mullins wasn't booked when he took out one of our players on the break (can't remember who)- but when Lawrence got booked for smashing the ball away a second later- stonewall yelllow. And how wasn't Schlupp given a free-kick after Mattock's (?) clear foul- which would've led to another booking?! Was a poor performance by us, don't get me wrong... but little decisions like that could've gave us the points and in this division little decisions like that are vital- and its not the first time this season we've been cost points by poor, inconsistent decisions- Forest, Brum just from memory.
Finnegan Posted 31 December 2011 Posted 31 December 2011 Mullins should have been sent off for kicking Schmeichel's leg as he was about to take the goal kick. no. No he shouldn't. (Unless he was already on a yellow?) Probably should have been carded for a cynical bit of time wasting / a professional foul but there was no malice in it. If it was intentional he was just trying to slow play down and stop us countering.
Tom17LCFC Posted 31 December 2011 Posted 31 December 2011 Not seen the replay of the pen yet but looked like a stonewall. The thing that wound me up was that he blew his whistle to signal Kasper to take the free-kick with the ball in mid-air, making all our players stop. Seriously? Absolutely pathetic referee, as per.

Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 31 December 2011 Posted 31 December 2011 Refs are ruining the game, about time something was done about it.
The Doctor Posted 31 December 2011 Posted 31 December 2011 Refs are ruining the game, about time something was done about it. I'm fed up of hearing this sort of thing. Yes referees are fairly consistently poor - but what do you do to correct that?
Kitchandro Posted 31 December 2011 Posted 31 December 2011 I'm fed up of hearing this sort of thing. Yes referees are fairly consistently poor - but what do you do to correct that? Not much tbf. I do think specific things that they keep doing wrong need to be mentioned to them though. For example, stop favouring the defending team and in particular, goalkeepers. There is nothing that angers me more than the ball coming in from a corner/free kick/high ball of some sort, the goalkeeper coming or it, missing it and falling over, and the referee giving a free kick EVERY time. Nobody ever seems to mention this but it is so infuriating and pathetic. Also, if something is a foul, it's a foul. If it's a foul in the centre circle, it's a penalty in the box. referees clearly do not understand this. I'd also like to see a 5th official watch the game on a monitor and intereven if he's had a shocker.
acooling08 Posted 2 February 2012 Author Posted 2 February 2012 Bump. Especially relevant after last night.
