For anyone who feels that in the western world black and white people are now treated as equal have a read of this http://www.bbc.co.uk...t-arts-16525977

Not talking about racism directly but interesting to read the view of major film companies when it comes to a film with an all black cast. I'm sure if they were all white there would be no problem and it highlights for me how uneven things still are!

Reading things like this i can understand why some black people have a chip on their shoulder!

All black cast? How racist! lol.

It just looks like film companies were backing away from his film because they either were unsure about the profits it would bring, or, as stated in the article, they dont know how they could market it. Pretty standard from a business point of view.

For the record, Lucas is a fat piggy twat.

I did say there were exceptions and there are black people who do think that all white people should be killed, and in places like Zimbabwe there were very clear cases of racism towards white people.

But in the case of Diane Abbot you can hardly expect the "anti fascist brigade" to jump on it, when her comments were born out of a feeling of oppression, perceived or otherwise, hardly fascistic.

I've seen the "anti-fascist" brigade jump on comments made by white MP's far milder than what Abbott has said. Diane can't feel that oppressed now anyway, she's an MP who has got far higher than her station probably on the basis of skin colour and has now enrolled her child into private schooling.

Biggest irony of it is the one who has spent her life playing the black oppressed role has now become what some of her own people would describe as an "Uncle Tom".

Maybe Lucas's film was actually shit, lets face it stuff like the Wire or Bad Boys has never had any problem being picked up because they are damn good TV shows/films despite having a majority black cast.

But that wouldn't be the case if they were all white so there is an underlying issue with it! Its certainly not a level playing field!

Maybe but thats not the reason given for it not being picked up! The wire and bad boys is only starring black people! This film only contains black people but it based on a true story so if it is a true representation of what they are portraying it really shouldn't be an issue!

Do you think every single film idea with an all white cast has been funded and made then? lol

Thats not what im saying!! What im saying is the powers at be in these production companies didn't pick up the film because they wouldn't know how to market the film because it is an all black cast!!

If it was an all white cast (as many films made are) theres no problem with the marketing!

That makes the playing field unequal!

The issue is clearly the money, look at it, he is funding it to the of $75million. Would you back the idea of a group of black pilots flying in WW2 for a film to the tune of that money? I certainly wouldn't.

That's $5million more than the budget for Saving Private Ryan. It better be good.

How do you know this? If a film has an all white cast, Im sure film companies still look at maketing and profit margins. If you had an all white cast, but it was about freezing peoples faeces and then sucking it like an ice lolly, it would get turned down. To suggest that any film with all whites, gets instantly picked up and produced is a bit weak really and just jumping on the bandwagon.

Plus, like Matt said, it was probably a shit film lol

Take it to the creator of Human Centipede and you might have a taker. lol

You guys seem to be concentrating on the film far too much!! The fact the production companies can't market it because the cast is black shows that they beleive the majority of audiences dont want to watch a film comprised of only black people!! That clearly shows there is an issue!!

If it had cost to much or the film was shit they would have surely told him this!

We are focusing on the film, because thats what its about. Lucas has turned it in to an issue to proably raise more funds and interest in it.

Lucas wouldnt openly say its been turned down because its shit, that wouldnt get him anywhere would it lol. I see what youre getting at, I really do, but Im trying to look at it from a different angle. Not EVERY single thing in the world is about racism, no matter what the news and papers say at the moment.

Perhaps the film studios did market research and the feedback just wasnt good enough. Maybe the profit margins wouldnt be suffucient (I doubt Lucas would admit that either, as its basically conceding its shit, again).

Look at scumbags like Lee Jasper, he still claims to this day a black person can't be racist as you need power to be able to use this, in a day and age where a black man is the president of the the most powerful nation in the world.

And in the most powerful nation in the world, what ratio of black people (compared to whites) live beneath the poverty line? Go to college? Are in prison?

Lee Jasper's position is a remarkably common one, my ex had a similar attitude and I never agreed. If you believe in equality then surely you believe anyone's equally capable of being prejudiced, that's my stance. But let's not pretend that there's a perfect balance and that everyone has an equal opportunity in life these days, eh?

What's that got to do with anything?

There are many successful Black men and women in the US that come from humble beginnings. If they can be successful then so can everyone else!

Okay then. :)

Of course there will be more blacks (I'd guess Hispanics would be higher than blacks actually from the time I spent travelling the US) in poverty than whites, that's a product of history and something that probably won't come into line for years and years, there is no instant fix for that. A black person who is prepared to work hard in school is in a great position in the states now though with the United Negro College fund and the other initiatives that have been put in place to try and re-address this over time.

The point I was making is what a black man can do, if they can achieve being president they can do anything.

Out of interest (and I'l take your word for it as you come across as an honourable man), were you one of the politically left minded 5 years ago that were saying Obama had no chance as the USA was far too "racist" to elect a black man to the whitehouse?

The way some people speak about the country you would think the lynchings only finished 10 years ago.

Nope, I figured he'd walk in in the wake of Dubya. Also figured if anything was going to hold him back it'd be his name more than his skin tone in contemporary America.

I was with a liberal, American feminist during his election, I literally couldn't not pay attention.

Fair play.

I watched the whole thing with a lot of bemusement, to me he was wandering round the world saying "yes we can" and millions were following.

Only thing I could compare it to was Hitler during the 30's.

That's possibly amongst the most retarded things you've said on here.

Seriously, I don't mean in terms of policy obviously.

I mean the way huge crowds just turned up as hung on every single word of what a politician said despite him not actually really giving any policy, ideas or about how he was going to change anything.

He's a terrific orator and a very charismatic figure and he had as much "policy" as McCain. :dunno:

American elections are always a hell of a lot more superficial than ours. And, hell, even Cameron got in without stating policy or any real ideas. ;)

When you follow a government that's exhausted itself to the extent of the Dubya and New Labour regimes then you're always going to be riding something of a wave.

He's probably the best orator I've seen, magnificent. No argument from me there.

Cameron got in because of the job Gordon Brown had done, Blair's still there we are probably still sat with a Labour government, Tony was far too shrewd for that though and saw what was coming, Brown couldn't even get re-elected despite having about 30% of the country dependent on him. Could be out for a while as well if Dave's masterplan comes off and he gets rid of all those Labour seats across the border off our map.

Think Obama will struggle as well, actually going to be up agaisnt a very good politician in Mitt Romney rather than the corpse the republicans put up last time, read in the times last week Baracks AR is actually lower than Dubyas hit. Magic has certainly worn off.

Romney's record contains more flip-flops than a swimming gala.
