You think one woman's twitter comment, taken out of context for the sakes of people wanting to be outraged, implying that those in power split public opinion to prevent a united front is comparable to hundreds of knuckle draggers taking to the streets to ignorantly rant about Islam and cause thousands in damages?

That's actually what you're saying? And you're trying to ridicule ME for not being outraged by this?

Get a grip.

She's not just a normal woman though is she. She is an mp in the most ethnically diverse part of the country. She has tremendous power and responsibility regards race relations. The edl can be ignored because they have no power and command no respect. This is a woman in a position of authority who constantly reveals her racist views. This is not idiotic like the edl but actually a real threat to the society which it is her job to look after. Barely anything could be more inappropriate than her comments. And that's without considering her status as a role model for other minorities. Here's a woman who is living proof that minorities can be a success on the UK. People look up to and respect her. She represents a dream for many immigrants and is a triumphant example of how open and non racist our society actually is. And yet here she is being racist towards white at every opportunity. Defend her if it fuels your lust for limp wristed self hate, but know deep down that you are very wrong.

Thanks for that James I was guilty of assumption in regards to the Hackney ethnic statistics and apologise for that.

No worries, you're not the only one.

The funny thing is that Stoke Newington is pretty much the definition of East London gentrification. It's full of wanky coffee shops, organic food markets, upmarket restaurants and poncy Guardian readers.

Personally I think the reason Diane Abbott is MP there is less to do with the fact she's black and more to do with the fact she gets the white middle class liberal left wing vote. Make of that what you will.

I'm not so much defending her as attacking you and your silly sensationalism. She made an ill judged comment on a twitter feed that nobody would give a **** about if some hack hadn't used it to fill a few columns inches. By contrast, the EDL hit the streets en masse to scream their bigotry to all and sundry. Who do you think is really having more influence on common opinion?

If she's using her position to actively attack white people in their every day lives then fair enough. Ultimately she's just made a classic El Empty statement and looked a tit for it.

Let's not forget some of the countless stupid comments the current mayor of London has made - including those about Africans and cannibalism - and the fact HE is still in his post, eh? But oh yes, white people never get away with it. Tsh.

I think Millaband or some one high up said they are not keen on MP's using Twitter. It is not like a prepared interview where the questions can be set and thought given to answers. Twitter is an instant response social network and I am sure many people from the nobody to the well known have responded to something then thought 'That was a bit silly of me to put that' But most times it is ignored. Somebody else might point it out then you can apologise. But with Dianne Abbot she is easy bait. The press are twaling MP's and celebrities Tweets on the pwowl for cock ups. It is their job. They do not care who it is as long as it stirs up the publics reaction. Only those that follow her may have seen it and many on here do not so would not have known were it not for the leak. I do not follow her BTW. Would be interesting now to. Just to see what the follow up tweets from her and followers are.

Tsh.

I did think it was incredibly random to finish your post with "Tehran". You sounded angry though so I didn't think I'd mention it. Luckily for me you've corrected it and I can move on with my day.

I was pleased to see this on the news last night. Because, and this isn't racist as I am not like that and if I offend anyone then sorry, but, when a white person is racist it is constantly covered throughout the media. However, when it is the other way around and the white person is getting racially abused, nothing comes of it. I haven't got a twitter account, so when this story was shown on the news at 10pm last night, I have to say that I was fairly pleased that this is being highlighted for once. I go back to the four Muslims that didn't get anything for offending and then beating up a white girl, disgrace.

Now though I think racism is getting out of hand. It is everywhere. Ok, it isn't nice when someone racially abuses someone else, but, I have to say I don't want racism to come in the way of everything. If it does, we won't be able to joke between one and other without us being "racist". I first noticed it was coming out of hand when I was at school - a person came dressed in a different coat and I said "oh he looks different" and I was then told I was racist and all the head's gathered to access whether I should be excluded from school or not. I got a real hammering, but was that racist? No. And this is the thing, if racism is going to stand in the way of every little sentance we say, then we will soon not be able to laugh.

I know some people may find this post a bit extreme and not agree with it, but if it was a white person saying it to her, I wonder what she would think and what would happen...

It must have been said on this forum at least 3 times that:

1. There was no evidence of racism in this attack so it could not be taken into account. Our justice system requires evidence before a prosecution can be made!

2. They didn't get off with it - They were given community service.

Therefore the 2 incidents cannot be compared! More importantly they shouldn't be compared - A sweeping statement that is stupid should not be compared to 4 girls beating the shit out of another girl!

Oh so you don't think community service for beating some one up four to one is not getting off with it ? What world are you living in . If that had been four white girls beating up a single black girl do you really think they would have gotten off with community service ? You know the answer to that as well as anyone else. There's no delusion like self delusion.

I think the sentence was not as severe it should have been but thats a completely different argument to the one that was made!

Beleive it or not that shit happens all the time!! If someone was jailed for every unprovoked attack or fight in the street - our jails would be unable to cope with the numbers! They are struggling as it is! But what that argument has to do with racism is beyong me? Black attack black, white attack white, black attack white, white attack black - It all happens on the streets of this country! Using one example - Where no evidence of racism was sufficient to be taken into account - is not a balanced argument.

You call me deluded, but you need to look in the mirror! If you want to have a real discussion about something you need good examples!

Tidy article and so glad to not be the only one here with a bit of laid-back common sense. The predictable reactions from the predictable few in this thread only really serve to make the point more poignant.

I'm not really passing judgement on Abbott, she does have a history of making silly remarks and does have something of a chip on her shoulder but I also think there's a lot of people out there simply unwilling to take a step back and take a look at where exactly she's coming from and what makes her think that way. Or even what she, really, means. It's easier to just pounce in a fit of self-righteous indignation.

Wow, Ron Atkinson is alive and well and living on Foxestalk...lol

Can't even murder a black lad at a bus stop without never hearing the end of it. That lot just won't let things go, will they?

lol. You've got to love the double standards of the left.

They have been like this for as long as I can remember when it comes to the issue of race/war anything along those lines, any anti white racism you wont hear a peep out of the Anti-facist groups, I remember when the Stop the War coalition was at its peak in 2004 and Russia drove it tanks in Georgia, of course, not even a squeal as soon as their commie buddies decided to cause some havoc.

Yes that's a sensible argument.

Hang on a minute Bellend not sure as to what you allude ? If you want my opinion on the Stephen Laurence Murder I will give it to you. I felt ashamed of our police service who let Stephen and his family down so badly which in it's self proved racism is rife among the police. I also believe in a life for a life and think those murdering cowards should be hung. So can you please explain why you chose to post such a snide remark ?

And thank you RobHawk for such a well balanced reply I understand a bit more now about what you meant and apologise for the self delusion remark.

Meanwhile good old Di has done it again today.

Today's white racists?? Cab drivers, come on down!!

http://www.thisislon...ck-customers.do

I'll await the comments from the usuals here about how it was an oversight and she was actually referring to Rosa Parks on the buses.

Personally if i were a taxi driver I would drive straight past her as well. Not because she is black but I don't like racists.

That would have been a classic comeback from the spokesman lol

I don't really see the arguement, are people actually suggesting there are no racist cabbies? Of course there are just like theres racist people in all jobs.

Of course not, but openly saying you dont believe a black person hasnt suffered racism because they might have tried to hail down a taxi, it's ridiculous.

It's akin to me saying the sameabout white people when you look at the ethnicity of Leicester's black cab drivers. It's absolute nonsense. I almost think she is doing it on purpose now.
