Fear for England this evening - very little experience, new captain with only 1 cap to his name and a coach with no top level experience - think they might get thrashed.

I should probably be a pundit.

You're about as good as Jerry Guscott to be honest.

But nowhere near as smarmy or conceited. He comes across as though he thinks everyone is shit.

He does which is ironic because he's possibly the most useless analyst I've ever seen. The likes of Moore and Barnes can almost be forgiven for their ignorant, biased ranting because nobody quite expects much from them. Guscott is often lauded by the media as some sort of highly intelligent student of the game. He's clueless. I actually read his predictions for the English premiership most weeks purely just for a laugh, he averages about 2 correct results per weekend! Tops!

I completely agree with you. I think it's the classic assumption that someone so seemingly well-spoken must know what they're talking about yet he talks very little sense and as you say, his analysis is largely inaccurate and lazy. Brian Moore is even worse. A pseudo-intellectual, always speaking in the most grandiose of terms but mainly talks horse-shit. What was he on about yesterday when he was talking about the 'cadence' the referee had used - does he even know what cadence means?!

I like Andrew Cotter's commentary though, he makes some really dry remarks which always appeals to me.

Has there ever been a line out jumper better than Paul O'Connell in international rugby? Amazing.

We can't keep wasting points or we're going to come up seriously short here. We should be five or more points better off right now.

Good try. Not sure how Wales are behind but they are.

SImple, not taking points when they're given.

That, plus Ireland's discipline has been absolutely excellent where as we've bled penalties.

Seriously, though, credit where it's due to Ireland. It was a foul at the end but Bradley Davies should have seen red, it was far worse than Warburton's in the World Cup (which should have been a yellow), you just can't do that off the ball and then claim there wasn't intent. Stupid.

I was getting ready to say fair play to the likes of Kearney and O'Connell who were massive and bemoan our self-destructive tenancies because, really, we were really just throwing it away with ridiculous ill-discipline.

But we've won it on tries and won it on points and at the end of the day I think we really just about edged it in terms of performance.

Cracking game, though, this is always a brilliant fixture - probably my favourite of the Six Nations - and I feel sorry for the Irish, not really sure anyone deserved to lose.

I only saw the last 20 mins and there was more rugby in that than in the whole Scotland-England game yesterday (and probably the next game to come for both teams.)

Scotland's next game is Wales so I doubt it. lol

You just edged it.

Davies should have walked. I hope he gets cited after the match as that was incredibly dangerous nevermind stupid.

Ferris was an absolute ballbag.

It was a great match to watch though - such an antidote to the England match.

Wouldn't catch me disagreeing with any of that. I don't agree with the protestations of your man in commentary, Ferris' was a definite foul and he was stupid to make such an unnecessary tackle in the last minute in kicking distance. But Davies should, and will, be banned. It's such a shame because he's not normally much of a dirty player but that was clearly stupid. I suppose the occasion got to his head.

Thrilling advert for the Six Nations, though. I feel this fixture generally carries the torch for the Northern hemisphere, I can't remember the last time it wasn't a good game. Last year in the Six Nations was about the weakest in a decade and even that wasn't poor per se.

And, eh, three tries to two with a similar kick count (though, of course, you landed yours and we didn't.) Think that says it all really.

PS: Davies' second try, what brilliance from North. Absolute unit. I love the way he completely destroys McFadden, completely ruthless.

North is a modern day Hercules - the BOY is a beast!

I don't really want to talk about it now. Give me a day or two.

The Scotland fly-half Dan Parks has retired from international rugby with immediate effect, the Scottish Rugby Union have announced.

The 33-year-old made his 67th Six Nations loss to England and was culpable for the decisive try as Charlie Hodgson charged down his kick.

The Cardiff Blues playmaker, who made his debut in 2004, has now made way for the next generation, with the Edinburgh captain Greig Laidlaw expected to start for Scotland in Sunday's Six Nations fixture against Wales in Cardiff and the uncapped Glasgow Warriors fly-half Duncan Weir set for a place on the replacements' bench.

Parks had been contemplating retiring after the World Cup, when he was second choice behind Ruaridh Jackson, but the lure of the opening Six Nations clash with England was too strong. However, now he has now called time on his Test career, insisting the time is right.

He said: "I was thinking about it but the first game of the Six Nations was against England, the auld enemy, Jacko was injured and being able to play against England was huge for me as there was a sense of unfinished business.

"On reflection after the game, after talking it over with my family, girlfriend and close friends, I've come to the decision that now is the right time to retire from the international game.

"There are some really talented guys coming through – Jacko, Greig and Duncan – and although I'm sad to be finishing my international career I have some fantastic memories of playing for Scotland and what that has meant to me.

"I've no regrets at what has been an amazing career for me. I've got my favourite moments for Scotland – uppermost being the 2007 World Cup.

"Other memorable moments have been the two wins against England at home [in 2006 and 2008], the win against South Africa here at Murrayfield [in November 2010], the two wins in Argentina in 2010 and one in 2008 and the Ireland game in 2010 which was a great occasion."

The Scotland head coach, Andy Robinson, did not select Parks in his first squad as head coach in 2009, but the Australia-born playmaker proved his credentials and has steered Scotland to a number of successes since returning.

However, he fell down the pecking order as Robinson fostered a more expansive game plan and now his Test career is over following 266 points, including a Scottish record 17 drop-goals.

Parks is the third long-serving Scot to retire following the World Cup, after Nathan Hines and Chris Paterson.

Robinson said: "I have really enjoyed working with Dan. He wasn't in my first Scotland squads, but through his own determination, hard work, skill and competitive spirit he forced his way back into selection.

"It's never an easy decision to make, but I feel Dan has made the right decision and thank him for his contribution over the years."

Well, sayonara Dan, cheers for the memories.
