Mack Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 We looked brittle at the back. We lost his drive from the back going forward. His positive drive and energy was hugely missed. And for Mills there was no one there to mop up his mistakes. And for those (Alan Young ahem) who said Bamba was the one who needed to make way to strengthen the defence..... That Bamba is impossible to partner etc etc think again! Because we looked even worse at the weekend without him. Hurry up and get back Sol!

I haven't seen the goals again, but at the time I thought Peltier was at fault for both with poor uncharacteristic defending. Our two centre backs seemed very isolated to me, anything into the channels caused promlems as the full back seemed out of position quite a lot. The centre backs themselves didn't strike me as being the biggest problem. Although I did spend most of the second half with my head in my hands not watching the game!
Dan Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 Peltier was poor but to be fair to the lad, he has to be constantly up there attacking because of how ineffective we are on the right wing. Not excusing the standing-off for the second goal though, that was terrible. It's not Bamba's enthusiasm going forward we're missing, if our enthusiasm going forward is coming from a centre half, then I guarantee you we have bigger problems than him not being there.
Raj Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 Agree with you on this one Mack! Reading must be laughing at us stumping up 4-5million on Mills!!! Young must have been livid on Sat not having Bamba to blame for our inept display!
Babylon Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 if our enthusiasm going forward is coming from a centre half, then I guarantee you we have bigger problems than him not being there. Very good point!
Guest MattP Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 Was Peltier's fault saturday. The more I watch him the more I think he looks more like a right winger, he isnt that good defensively.

On more than one occasion it has been Bamba who has been the one to get the ball and drive forward with it, he has shown the midfield what they should be doing and changed the impetus of the game from one of on the back foot to going forward. His aura and positive attitude were sadly missing.
Raj Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 I think the reason he DOEs go forward(and then get a lashing from Alan Young) is because EVEN HE cann see that we need to drice forward and get things going. Like you've said it says something when a defender has to try and get something attcking...next we'll have Casper taking Corners!!!
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 Peltier was the reason, everytime he got up he never got back. The player we missed on saturday was Yuki Abe
Langston Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 Peltier was the reason, everytime he got up he never got back. Would help if he got support from whoever played right wing though, eh? They're so inept it leaves our full backs having to do the job of two men.
Corky Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 We were two points off the play-offs when Sven left.
Master Fox Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 I think since Vassell got injured our performances have declined. We miss him more than any other player imo

Whilst it's not a criticism of Bamba, it's a criticism of the team itself that our drive and enthusiasm is coming from a central defender. It's absolutely embarrassing in all honesty.
Criggers Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 Maybe we should just play Abe at right back and Pelts right wing. Can't be any worse than anything else we have tried so far this season.
okie fox Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 The centre backs themselves didn't strike me as being the biggest problem. Although I did spend most of the second half with my head in my hands not watching the game! I thought Tunchev was a problem. For the first goal, why didn't he slide over and mark Gray after Mills was dragged out of position to cover for the absent Peltier? Generally, I thought Tunchev was weak.
Babylon Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 We were two points off the play-offs when Sven left. Stop it... I know what you are doing!

I agree, and there's a reason for that in my opinion, it's Mills that makes his partner look shit. Bamba manages to carry off his own duties and mopping up Mills mistakes most of the time, Tunchev cant do that and was exposed. Mills would be the first out of the side if I was re building it & bollocks to what he cost.

Peltier was at fault IMO but tbh our whole team needs a massive reality check! And I wouldn't drop Mills!
Guest Col city fan Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 Is this the same Bamba that many on here have been slagging off consistently over recent weeks for him being a ´timebomb´ waiting to explode? Oh the fickleness of our fans... Of course we miss Bamba..he´s our best defender
Houdini Logic Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 You're always going to look brittle at the back when it's 11 against 5
Guest Col city fan Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 You're always going to look brittle at the back when it's 11 against 5 This is sooooo true! And THIS is the problem Our pussy midfield gives the back four no help...

This, I didn't think he looked fit either
Captain... Posted 16 January 2012 Posted 16 January 2012 Peltier was the reason, everytime he got up he never got back. The player we missed on saturday was Yuki Abe We definitely missed Abe, he would have dropped back to cover Peltier, like he does with Bamba, and he would have been in the box when they crossed for their goals. We started the game playing 433 I think, so we needed full backs to provide some added width, especially on the right, none of the midfielders were coming back to cover or help out. Wellens, King, Danns, Gallagher and Dyer provide nothing in the way of strength in the middle to win the ball. I also think we missed Bamba, as well as having some options on the bench, I still can't belive that NP waited until 75 minutes to make a sub, and only made 1, thought it would have been worth sticking on Kennedy either for Konch or as a left winger, or just to shake things up a bit, and Abe should have come on, just give us a bit of balance.
