Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.

Why I am anti-religion

That should make you anti religion, it should just make you anti that religion, if you follow the teachings of Buddha you won't be asked to ravish any women or dash children to pieces.

In fairness it has been translated many times and originally probably just said "They will get a slapped wrist and made to pick up litter", but some of the translators embellished it a little.

Sounds like it would make a great film though.

I don't.

Care to share, or were you making a point about pointless posts just saying "I agree with this" which does seem largely redundant and adds nothing to the debate, especially when you have the +1 button to express your agreement.

Either way without anyone sticking up for the religious this thread will just descend into nonsense about aliens with beards and ravishing wives.

There's nothing wrong with having a religion. Most religious people are nothing but thoroughly good people. Ok, you get the IRA, UVF and Muslim extremists hiding behind religion, but they're a minority.

Everyone in my family bar myself dad and brother are bible bashers. But ive seen them cope with deaths in our family better than I have due to their faith. That's not a bad thing. If people want to live their lives according to the bible, then they die and find it was all for nothing, that's their own lookout.

What I don't appreciate is having religion rammed down my neck. Whether that be my mum forcing me to church as a kid or some Muslim preaching in the street.

Firstly and most importantly in a debate about religion, not all dieties have beards! (but it helps)

Secondly if an alien came down from the sky and started listening to our problems he would be hailed as the next prophet (if he had a beard) or he would be shot, or both, can't beat killing a prophet to make a religion swell.

We will soon all be worshipping the cult of Kudos and Kang.

On a more serious note, can anyone think of any aliens in popular culture that had beards, non-humanoid aliens obviously, Brian Blessed as a Hawk Man in Flash Gordon doesn't count.

Good point, well made. Well done to you. I like people that try and sound more intelligent than they are (yes, I see the irony).

I used the bearded comment purposely and mischieviously because I am a bitter little dullard troll, I don't have may friends and I can't really grow a beard. As Mr Dawkins himself says, the argument that the silly bearded old man in the sky is not the God that people believe in so you can't ridicule it is irrelevant. Religious people ridicule the fact that an atiest may claim that believing in a bearded old man is silly because they don't believe in a bearded man either as a distraction. Distracting from the fact that what they actually do believe in is not a whole lot less silly than a bearded man in the sky. Anyway, even I barely understand the drivel I have just written so I will shut my self rightious mouth and go and play with my tiny, tiny penis.

I tell you, if there is a God, he was having a alugh when he made my little tiddler!

I like to focus on the "is it a fact or not" argument rather on getting bogged down with whether it is harmful or helpful. That argument can never be won either way. Whether or not something helps someone with grief or helps them get through a difficult time has absolutely nothing to do with it's validity. It seems painfully clear to me that no religion can be true and it is just such a massive waste of our time to pander to it. ANyway, bye.

As long as we are clear beards don't make you a god, having a badass elephant head or 6 arms can also make you a god.

To be fair, you don't seem too insecure about your tiddler, so maybe your guardian angel has given you the strength to see beyond your genetic disadvantage, (blame Darwin for that one, or the fact that the human race has stopped evolving so even people with small willies and ugly faces can pollute the gene pool. Probably your parents fault, does your dad also have a small one?).

In my religion nobody has a small penis, because in my religion I am the only one with a penis and it is the biggest in the land and it has a beard, and I use it to have sex with all the women in my religion, because I am the only one with a penis.

Wow that's amazing. Could I join your religion? You see were I to join my penis would be no bigger but would be the second biggest in the land. I'd be a good follower honest Mister. I'm not too bright and we all know about my rather embarrassing collection of between the leg miscellaneous items but I'm pretty cool really. Mom says I'm special anyway and, given a quotation from A Christmas Carol, I can tell you what page it was from to an error of three pages in less then seven minutes.

I'll write epic odes to your majestic, bearded wonder tool and sing them too if you want me to?

Anyway, on the bearded alien front, does Obi Wan count?

Amen

I am the only one in my religion with a Penis, so unless you remove yours you cannot join, unless it is that small you can push it back inside in which case you are in, you will receive the members pack and membership number 000000002 will be reserved for you until you complete the paperwork, I will need bank details and confessions of anything bad you have done to hold against you and use as blackmail if you leave the religion to help you cleanse your soul.

Your lord and master the Bearded Tool.

Oh and Obi Wan doesn't count as an alien with a beard he is of human form, the closest I have found in the Star Wars universe is old Watto:

My parents still put down 'Christian' on the census and put my younger sister down as Christian too, even though they don't go the church, don't prey, have never read the Bible, and don't even believe in God. They think that because they were Christened they have to put themselves down as Christian.

I myself put down atheist and I encourage everyone who is to do so. Then the church/government can't keep saying how many of us are Christians when most of us are not.

This passage from Revelation just shows how bat-shit craaaazy the Bible is... and yet people still believe it s the TRUTH! Seriously if a man came up to you on the street and spouted this dribble, he'd be committed!

Revelation 12]

12:1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:

12:2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.

12:3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

12:4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

12:5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and [to] his throne.

12:6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred [and] threescore days.

12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,

12:8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.

12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

12:12 Therefore rejoice, [ye] heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the [[inhabiters of the]] earth and [[of]] the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

12:13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man [child].

12:14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

12:15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.

12:16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.

12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

[Revelation 13]

13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

13:2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as [the feet] of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

13:3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.

13:4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who [is] like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?

13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty [and] two months.

13:6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.

13:7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

13:9 If any man have an ear, let him hear.

13:10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

13:11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

13:12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

13:13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

13:14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by [the means of] those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number [is] Six hundred threescore [and] six.

Really that is your best argument, some bits in the bible are beyond your level of comprehension?

Fair enough, but I expected better.

Typical stupid brainwashed comments from a Muslim. In her tiny little world she believes we are all religious regardless of which faith. She cannot comprehend that most intelligent people dismissed religion as nothing more than a out dated control of the masses tool. We in the west are moving forward in our comprehension of what life means while those stuck in medieval religions seek to drag us back into the darkness of mass obedience and ignorance. She needs shagging with the rough end of a Pineapple and no mistake.

I always put non-religious now. I am probably something like secular or humanist but I dont want to be classified as anything really. I just think that in the year X Man had little knowledge about their beinnings and were given reasons from priests in return for power. They promised that they were messengers from a higher power.

Today in 2012 knowledge is available to anyone that cares to look (google) and tecnology and science has advanced a million fold thus making the need of belief in mythology obseliete. I have seen Fundalmentalists and creationists on twitter when asked to explain all things that point to evolution eg. fossils, say it is all lies and the evidence is planted by atheists and evil scientists possessed by the devil.

I have asked them how a fossils age is determined and where in archologists calculations are the errors.. So far I have seen no answers

You've used a capital 'P' for pineapple.

Is that to make the rough end ribbed for her pleasure?

I thought I should reply about the 'P' rather than the 'brainwashed Muslims,' it seems safer territory.

Random capitalisation of words is a sign of a disturbed mind and normally an indication of homicidal tendencies.

As for the rest of Wolfy's post I wouldn't read too much into it, he is just jealous that he can't open his mind enough to believe in something that makes no sense in the face of all scientific evidence.

I think atheists will go to heaven for not copying all the atrocities in the bible that god put in there to test Mankind's stupidness.

I do often think that, I have lived the life of a good honest decent human being and I have done so because I know right from wrong and not because I fear Hell, or believe in a great reward, the stickler is that nobody is perfect and at some point we have erred, we have all stolen something when young and testing boundaries, whether it is a packet of sweets from the shop or a quid from your sister, or a beer from your Dad. All of those things will be taken into account if you are going to try and enter the "kingdom of heaven" and you haven't confessed your sins no matter how small you will be behind the repentant murderer.

You can hope that your good deeds outweigh your bad, but that is not how religion works, you need to make a noticeable pennance for your sins.

That and by not believing in God you are committing a sin. But then depends on the God, but the Christian one and the Muslim one aren't that hot on non-believers.
