wellyfox Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 All we can do is win our games. We can't affect others. Take one game at a time. Get ahead of ourselves and we could fall away. We can't afford any more slip-ups from now on. If we're at our best we've got a chance. It's not in our hands now, but we can make teams above us worry. Not having a dig at you Corky but see this comment so much. If we won every game it still would not be certain we could finish top six. We can't win two on the spin as proven all season long. Why are we all of a suden gonna win like 12 or 13 games. Give it up and go for the cup we only need 3 wins from now till may :scarf:
Guest Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Closer than we are now. So you think 3 points behind Cardiff (presuming those results happened) wouldn't leave us in contention. Especially considering We still have to play Reading, Birmingham, Blackpool, Hull, West Ham, Leeds, Burnley all of whom are above us. And the fact many of them will all be playing each other as well. The point being the next two games could put is in a good position considering who we have to play. It then makes those games huge 6 pointers. And not forgetting we have a game in hand on Burnley, Leeds, Brighton and Blackpool. I'm not saying it's likely, or that we're going to do it. But it's definitely possible with a bit of luck. I like the optimism and of course it's possible and I will hold out the hope until it no longer is possible (even down to goals). I think the real problem is the number of teams better placed than us rather than the large points margin. We are counting on too many teams doing a little or a lot worse than us and these teams have all done better than us so far. The list of 6 pointer games is impressive but I'd go further than that and say that they are MUST WIN games. If we lose and drop further off the coat tails of teams above us we are finished whereas winning them just brings us a maximum of 3 points closer (and sometimes no points closer) to the playoffs. We must also realise that those teams above us play each other so they cannot get 0 points. If we lose 1 game we will drop further behind somebody every time. Win or bust.
Lambert09 Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Great set of results for us again this week. Didnt expect it to be this good. Same again on tues/ weds please!!!!
Guest Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Great set of results for us again this week. Didnt expect it to be this good. Same again on tues/ weds please!!!! Good - not great. We would still need to win every game this season in order to get promotion.
Foxes Blue Blood Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Some Interesting Fixtures this weekend around us. If we were to win, and it's a massive IF considering we can't win two back to back. Then we will have closed on someone. Ideally a West Ham and Saints win with a Blackpool Hull draw would be perfect. Cardiff V West Ham Leeds United V Southampton Blackpool V Hull Spot on Babylon! Can you look into your Crystal Ball and get me the Lottery Numbers for next week please?
Basingstoke Fox Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Good results but were only one point closer. It's hard to see how this will come about.
yorkie1999 Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Win 7 gain 1 point each game and we're in the playoffs
Babylon Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Good - not great. We would still need to win every game this season in order to get promotion. No we wouldn't, as I keep saying we are playing lots of teams above us and they are also playing each other in games. They can't all take 3 points when they play each other. There is margin for error, but not much.
Stevie Synex Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Good - not great. We would still need to win every game this season in order to get promotion. I agree with Lambert09 - a great set of results this weekend! Before the weekends fixtures and of the teams placed between 6th and 11th only Middlesborough won which pushed them into 5th whilst draws for Birmingham, Blackpool and Hull meant we picked up two points on those teams and defeats for Burnley, Cardiff and Leeds meant we picked up three points on those teams. Look at next weeks midweeks fixtures - Birmingham do not play due to the cup replay whilst Hull play Leeds and Cardiff travel to Brighton. IF we win at Bristol and those other two fixtures are draws then we are within four points of a play-off place. Then comes the real test as to our true play-off credentials with games against Reading and Birmingham City, bring it on!!
Babylon Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Good results but were only one point closer. It's hard to see how this will come about. It's not, beat the teams above is and we're bloody close!
Guest Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 If we're gaining 1 point every time we get 3, that means if we lose then we lose 2 points, so does that mean we can afford to lose 1?
Happy Fox Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 The Middlesborough result is a good bar Pompey as a club goes under, they would loose 3 points.

lcfcbaby Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Got to remember that when you use the BBC predictor not only are you working out LCFC points but all the other teams! Any team can lose form from now till the end of the season, any team can lose a game they were expected to win! All we need is to continue our run and for other teams to lose composure! As long as we're winning games we can't do much more!

As long as we're winning games we can't do much more! Yeah thats why I don't like using that predictor thing. You can give a reflection of your own team - and even then form can change, and as we all know anyone can beat anyone in this league so not many games you can really call, but you have to give the results of all the other clubs and for me personally I just guess all those results because I don't really take that much notice of what other teams are doing or how they are playing, e.t.c. The predictor thing gives you an idea I suppose but I don't rate it/take anything from it. Like I said when I say I don't really take much notice of other teams - within reason lets do that, focus on ourselves, and if we win our games thats all we can do, a helping hand would be nice but we can't affect that, lets focus on ourselves and what will be, will be.
lcfcbaby Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 The predictor thing gives you an idea I suppose but I don't rate it/take anything from it. Exactly! No one predicted the Reading form last year. As long as it's mathmatically possible we still have a chance, we are far from being out of contention!
sdb Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 If we win our next 2 games then i'll start considering top 6. Not until then.
Guest Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 If we win our next 8 I'll start considering playoffs until then...
Happy Fox Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 If we win our next 2 games then i'll start considering top 6. Not until then. 4 points from our next two games would be playoff form and easily doable.
Guest Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 If we only get 4 from the next two games I'm pretty sure we'll lose ground. On the law of averages I'd suggest that at least one of the teams from 6th to 11th get six points. It's not good enough for us to gain on some we have to do better than all of them. 7th is as bad as 13th.
Matt Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 The thing that worries me is that its fine saying 'If we win our next two games I might start looking at the playoffs' but we've then gotta keep winning after that, we're playing catch up as it is, winning two games will hopefully bring us back into playoff contention, then if we lose the next we'll probably drop off again, we've only just won 2 in a row, I can't see us winning 4 or 5 in a row - that is the worry, that is the reason I don't think we'll be making the playoffs. We still have a chance, albeit very slim, I hope i'm proved wrong but we have to be realistic we've made it very hard for ourselves and people should get excited we've won 2 in a row yet - winning 2 games isn't consistancy, winning a run of games in consistancy.
Maybes Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 9 wins from last 13 is what is required. 27 points. The gauntlet has been set.
Lambert09 Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Whats not great about the results ? Burnley, Leeds and Cardiff lost. Blackpool,Hull, Birmingham, Brighton all drew. And only 2 of them played each other. Only one of our competitors won, cant ask for much more luck then that at a weekend.
Lamby Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Its not over til its over..although I do hope you don't get there cos next season it'll be a new ground for me
lcfcbaby Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Its not over til its over..although I do hope you don't get there cos next season it'll be a new ground for me I want us to get promoted but I like the idea of Charlton away next season!
