Lets all laugh at Cardiff

What a **** you are. And for the ten million time, Cardiff, Swansea and co' compete in the English league system because Wales has only had an established league of any real in very modern history.

Well if being a part of Britain is that bad for the Welsh then yeh, I stand by what I said. Fine, but now they have a league system set up, send em packing.

C'mon boy, this has been answered so, so, so, so many times. Keep up.

And you'd be wrong. Before we even consider the North Sea oil, Scots contribute the most per head to Westminster.

Indeed, they don't appreciate being invaded, subjugated, attempts to destroy their culture and incorporate their history into England's - how dare they bare the slightest resentment for that! Let's not even raise a finger to help people in their time of need.

So they have their own unique culture that they want to be proud of?

Great, but they are still just a county, they're part of England so unless they go and get themselves independence then, well, they're part of England.

I fail to see why you seem to think as far as UK residents go, if you're proud to be from England, great, if you're proud of another heritage you have then you should go and **** yourself. It seems an odd view point to have...

I'm pretty sure I heard on 5live once that there are 5 million claming benefits in Sctoland to the 700k they have working. How true that is I don't know.

If being part of Britain was "that bad" for the Welsh why would it have taken til recent times to get a bill passed for referendum just to set up the assembly?

Most Welsh people are happy being a member state of the United Kingdom, why wouldn't they be? Even the Scots don't really want independence it's only being talked about because the SNP gained strength from New Labour's collapse and now the Tories are obligated to give them a vote. It won't go through.

There may be some resentment towards the English but it's fundamentally because of thick skulled, bigoted little toss-pots like you that give the country and over-riding, over-bearing right wing image.

Most Welsh people are generally fairly indifferent and fairly passive towards the English. The over all attitude towards English people in rural Wales is one of slightly baffled confusion more than anything else. As David Mitchell puts it, people from Yorkshire are generally more resentful of the English than the Welsh are these days.

You're just confusing sporting rivalries for real life.

And on that note...

God save ou-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Pretty sure that's bollocks, but I'd like to see a source from Al that Scotland provides more per head to Westminster than England, I'd be shocked if that was true.

I love how sticking up for my own country makes me 'a bigoted little (I'm over 6 foot by the way) tosspot' yet you sticking up for 'your' country is just. Your lot hate us, I only need my life experiences to substantiate what and why I say so.

Can't quite remember the numbers, apologies for being unable to remember something I briefly heard on a radio program a few years ago.

I seem to have hit a spot, though I'm not sure why. I wasn't knocking you personally, and nor do I think I actually insulted the Welsh either. Not that I mind you going off on one, if you can't refrain from getting personal that's your problem not mine. x

You aren't sticking up for your country, you're attacking everyone else's.

And as a Welsh person, born in Wales, living in England, whose family is predominantly Welsh (with a few English black sheep!) and whose friends are predominantly English I think I'm pretty ****ing well qualified to discuss Welsh attitudes to the English (and the visa versa.)

I have my life experiences, yes, which vastly outweigh 99% of this forum's posters on the subject of Anglo-Cymraig relations and I've also got a keen interest in the subject on which I'm pretty well read.

But, to paraphrase Ed Byrne, I suppose I can take my well reasoned and well researched argument and shove it up me hole, shall I? Because you read the Sun/Mail/Whatever****ingragyougetyouropinionsfrom.

Regardless of the specific numbers, let's just focus on ratio here... you seriously believed that FIVE MILLION Scots would be out of work (or on low enough income to be claiming) and only SEVEN HUNDRED THOUSAND had jobs!?!?

You want me to NOT knock you personally when you're being that flippantly insane!? I'm sorry, I just don't have that level of self control!!

Scotland isn't inner city London chap, the latest figures I can find (mid-2010) put Scotland's unemployment rate at 8.1%.

Now admittedly I was never that good at geography, but I don't think Scotland has the ~61 million population for 5 million to be unemployed at that rate.

MattP - can't remember for certain where I read it, but I'll give digging the source up a go.

This thread is embarrassing.

I'm pretty sure the only man in Scotland who actively wants independence is Alex Salmond. This is due to two fairly important reasons.

1) Contrary to popular belief, not everyone living north of Hadrian's Wall is a Tennents' Super swilling, kilt wearing Anglophobe who spends their evenings wanking over Braveheart. Most Scots actually consider themselves to be Scottish first and British second, much as an Englishman would self-identify similarly.

2) Most Scots are intelligent enough to realise, in spite of Salmond's spiel, that Scotland would find it incredibly difficult to survive on its own. It would either be absolutely dominated by the EU, have its economy completely dwarfed by the remnants of the UK or be reliant on dwindling North Sea oil and gas stocks. A tiny country of five million with little natural resources to speak of on the edge of Europe would have almost no voice at the world's table. Think Iceland with sectarianism.

As for Wales, not even Plaid Cymru are calling for unilateral independence from the UK. They want greater autonomy but independence is so far off the agenda it's a complete irrelevance. Besides which, Wales has been part of the UK for even longer than Scotland and as such is far closer to England. Separate but equal cultures sum it up.

Cornish nationalism is such an irrelevance it's scarcely worth mentioning. The Cornish language is only now recovering from two centuries of near extinction and there is zero political will for autonomy let alone independence, save for Mebyon Kernow who mustered a fairly insignificant 5,000 votes at the last General Election. Forgive me if I don't start thinking about where the Cornish Parliament is going to be built.

Don't believe what you read, the United Kingdom will remain so for a while yet.

Nonsense. Truro as a political hub is quite an amusing thought and definitely deserving of mention.

As for the whole Scottish economy, for a while it would be fine, maybe better as a sovereign nation than as part of the UK, but once oil & gas reserves run out, I can't see where the money would be coming from (bar massive borrowing). Crap weather or not, I can't imagine things like the Wallace monument attracting too many tourists.

I don't get my opinions from an of those. I get my opinions from life experiences as already said. I'm not attacking anyone else's. I'm saying the Welsh and Scottish can't have their cake and eat it, Either fall in line and stop slagging off the countries and the people you form part of the UK with, or be independant and go your own way. I don't think it'd be a great loss in all honesty.

Like I said originally, 'I was sure I heard.' Not strictly accurate saying I was 'sure' when I'm not sure but eh. But yes, to be honest I could see those numbers adding up to a point. For those who aren't on oil rigs, they're mainly either fishermen or in the forces I believe

Sometimes I worry about you. Do you really believe all Scottish and Welsh people are really uppity anglophobes?

Could it not be just a bit of friendly "banter" - like say if you worked with a Forest fan, just a light-hearted piss-take when ever either side ****s up?

There are some people who are strongly anti-English, but they're in the minority.

lol bullshit. Where would you even get the money to establish your own, independent infrastructure? It's not going to happen, Scotland would be bankrupt without the UK. Who do you think sustains your free university education or the funding of Scots Gaelic revival?

Even if any delusional muppet thought Scots independence was fiscally feasible ten years ago, they'd be certifiably insane to still believe in it now against the backdrop of European bankrupcy and the fall of the Celtic Tiger.

Either fall in line and stop slagging off the countries and the people you form part of the UK with, or be independant and go your own way. I don't think it'd be a great loss in all honesty.

"Fall in line" to whom? The English? You don't run the Union, you're a member state just like the rest of us with the same political status and it's that exact arrogance that I'm talking about that causes friction between you and your neighbours.

Besides, all of this "slagging off the countries and the people" nonsense is just pure fabrication and that's exactly what I, and many others here, are telling you. There may be a bit of banter back and forth but that's it. I mean how ****ing sensitive do you need to be? You think the whole of Wales sheds tears every time Jeremy Clarkson takes the piss?

The English, as a nation of piss-takers, give as much as they get mate. You need to come down off your high horse and join the real world.

But yes, to be honest I could see those numbers adding up to a point. For those who aren't on oil rigs, they're mainly either fishermen or in the forces I believe

lol lol are you on the wind up or am I supposed to answer that at least semi-seriously?

Surely you're just trolling now.

Not gonna bother reading all this but is somebody really arguing this independence nonsense. In my opinion for everybody concerned remaining as the UK is the best/only option at the moment, if only Salmond understood that.

Al Snrub- Are you sure they contribute the most per head? They take the most per head http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/scotland/8730902/Tell-the-truth-Scotland-has-been-indulged-for-too-long.html, don't agree with the article but says in there they take the most.

I also think this is an interesting article which expains a few things http://www.bbc.co.uk...siness-16477990

so, err, yeah. It'd be sustainable for a short while, so long as the oil holds out.

And there was me thinking the Mills thread was unbelievably funny and crassly imbecile at the one and same time.

This thread has become awesome.

Top Tip for stupid people: if you are in any way worried about being laughed at for being really fvcking stupid or full of shit? Don't post on the internet.

Brilliant. lol
