sphericalfox Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 Well that makes slightly more sense but we get our gas from Qatar via tanker or from Norway so there's no need for a pipeline. It's a reasonable theory but I doubt if there's much in it. More likely the Russians want to keep their naval base in Syria and don't want a pro western govt to throw them out. I'm pretty sure transporting the gas by tankers costs more money. I gave links earlier in the thread regarding the pipeline. I'm pretty sure if they conceived it, it would be to save money (make more profit). And I'm sure the Russians would like to stay in Syria, and would be pretty pissed all the money they've invested would potentially be for nothing.
Guest MattP Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 Building oil pipelines from war in the Middle East is stupid. And this one would be even Syria.
Stadt Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 Building oil pipelines from war in the Middle East is stupid. And this one would be even Syria. What is China's stance on this?
Guest MattP Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 What is China's stance on this? They invented Sillier and Oil Pipelines 5,000 ago.
Guest Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 What is China's stance on this? Arms folded, less than impressed look on the face.
BoneDog Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 I'm 90% sure that Jon the Hat and Breadandcheese have shares in the arms industry. Do you two really believe all of these reports and dossiers that come out from Western and Arab intelligence? I can't believe that some are swallowing this baloney that Assad used chemical weapons recently. Let's not forget that there was evidence of the foreign 'rebels' using chemicals nearly 6 months ago. The fake 'Allahu Akbar' brigade are terrorists, not freedom fighters, and they give Muslims a bad name. Real Muslims will be the losers yet again as the terrorists round them up. We, the tax payer, are going to pay for this war and a few people/groups will walk away with billions. The only winners from all of this will be the usual suspects, and the Israeli regime of course. Israel is a winner as every nation surrounding it is being dismantled, and when the time comes for their planned bigger war none of those surrounding countries will any longer be capable of defending itself against Israel. If we still had Gadaffi and Assad in control of their countries, and other fairly strong surrounding countries when the time comes, Israel would have no chance. As I said in the WW3 thread, Israel will be the next world 'ruler' when the USA is finished and it's new stolen territory will reach from the Nile to the Euphrates. Syria is just another step along the way to Israel's world rule. Word. Israel is bleeding the USA dry and using it to strengthen itself. Such a shame, but most Americans seem oblivious or too weak to want to do anything about it.

Israel can't pull up its trousers without political backing from the USA. China's where you should be casting your conspiracy-seeking gaze.

Guest MattP Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 Sky actually showed three executions carried out by the Syrian rebels today, very surprised, first bit I've seen showing some brutality from anybody in Syria but Assad. (The crime was to be shia muslims) Not for the squeamish. (click off at 1.10 if you want to see events that led to the execution but not the actual event) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmXihHcvibc

They'll run out of bullets at that rate.
Zingari Posted 7 September 2013 Posted 7 September 2013 I've just caught a bit of Listening Post on Al Jazeera TV and they were saying most of the news that comes out of Syria comes from one western funded source and mostly unverifiable . It could of course be reliable , but there must be the suspicion that there is an element of spin. Yours in good faith Forever in the dark

Yours in good faith Forever in the dark I don't think that there's any doubt that there is spin on both sides, unless you're actually living there you can't really know what's going on and then your views are coloured by your own personal circumstances. Govts have to rely on the same uncertain sources as the rest of us. The best you can do is look at all the evidence and make your own mind up.

I have almost made my mind up and I think we're being lied to again . I'm not sure of course, but in a few years time ( if this isn't the start of the real big un ) I think more of the reality will gradually seep out . But of course it will all be put down to just another "mistake"
breadandcheese Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 Latest reports are that Syria will agree to hand their chemical weapons over to the international community. Good news.
James. Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 Latest reports are that Syria will agree to hand their chemical weapons over to the international community. Good news. Seems an all round sensible approach to take. If this was 2003 and not 2013 I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have given them the opportunity to reach a non-military solution. In that sense it's good to see we seem to have learned some lessons from the past.

I'm just waiting for the Chemical Weapons Inspectorate Committee to find new ways of explaining "We can't audit what we don't know is there but we're definitely having a good look at all the sites where we think they used to use to manufacture and store them...."
