fleckneymike Posted 29 August 2013 Posted 29 August 2013 Someone should put SPOILERS in the title of this thread. I'm still watching this Syria thing and don't want to find out the ending just yet else there'll be no point watching. I'm just getting to the episode where they shoot at the weapons inspectors.
Guest MattP Posted 29 August 2013 Posted 29 August 2013 What on earth would the majority been had Ed Miliband not got up and made a fool of himself for 20 minutes?
BoneDog Posted 29 August 2013 Posted 29 August 2013 Assad is winning the war against terrorists. Not a chance he is responsible for any chemical attack. When the world 'police' do their aerial bombardment and the rest of it, tens of thousands of civilains will die, infrastructure will be destroyed, the whole country will be poisoned and foreign backed warlords will rule the roost, destabilising the country even more - all in the name of preventing a humanitarian catastrophe. What a load of bollocks it all is. In a way I feel sorry for the young muslims from around the world who are going to Syria after being duped into believing that helping the terrorists there is 'jihad'. They should get a proper Koran teacher and maybe they'd think twice. Edit : In a way I don't feel sorry for most of them though, as I've seen many of their different gangs videos from Syria.

Good post mate We all know America won't be considering intervention for humanitarian purposes I'm amazed the uk parliament voted against action, though it's typical that only won by 13 votes...

Hopefully people are starting to wake up to this global chessboard stuff . The Who sang "We Won't Get Fooled Again" in the early 70's but I've not seen much evidence of it yet.
Zingari Posted 30 August 2013 Posted 30 August 2013 Good post mate We all know America won't be considering intervention for humanitarian purposes I'm amazed the uk parliament voted against action, though it's typical that only won by 13 votes... i wish that were true lav, but there will be far too many that will continue to believe the propaganda.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 30 August 2013 Posted 30 August 2013 Not our problem. Not right now it isnt no. But what if these apparent chemical weapons fall into the hands of Al Qaeda, an arm of which is supposedly close friends with Assad's regime? Then we could have major problems in our own back yard again, but on a wider scale. Im not saying we should go to war with them at all, I'm probably in favour (just) of staying out of it, but its not quite as black and white as saying its not our problem I don't think.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 30 August 2013 Posted 30 August 2013 I'm not falling for propaganda but the possibility of Al Qaeda getting their hands on chemical wespons with a potential then of using them over here is a bit terrifying. But the bigger picture is that had we have acted before the UN's findings or gone to war on our own accord with China and Russia strongly opposing is equally so.
Finnegan Posted 30 August 2013 Posted 30 August 2013 I think we should stay out. I doubt any intervention will save any lives, and I don't see why the use of chemical weapons should be seen as any worse than murders committed by any other means. Just leave them to it. I'm swaying towards this at the moment. It'll cost billions, the yanks will go in regardless, we'll **** it all up like Iraq, neither side is covering themselves in glory and you don't have to be El Empty to be dubious of the so called good guys.

Al Qaeda was formed by the CIA .How did it get so badly out of control if they were organising it and funding it from the outset. Surely they had to ability to quash it early on if they'd have wanted if they really are a Central "Intelligence" Agency .
James. Posted 30 August 2013 Posted 30 August 2013 Nice one DC. The right outcome but an embarrassing process that should never have happened in the first place.
Zingari Posted 30 August 2013 Posted 30 August 2013 I doubt if this is the end of it . There's always a chance that something nasty will occur to change public and parliament's opinion.
Jon the Hat Posted 30 August 2013 Posted 30 August 2013 There will doubtless be another chemical attack soon, and opinion will start to swing. This is all about the WMD lies told over Iraq. Blair has a lot to answer for.

Blair has a lot to answer for. Surely Blair was only acting on what he himself was told ( and possibly even believed at the time). He didn't just make that shite up himself . It goes much deeper than that .
James. Posted 30 August 2013 Posted 30 August 2013 It's not just about the WMD anyway. Cameron handled it terribly. I bet some MP's probably didn't even know what they were voting for. Anyway public opinion may well turn but ultimately right now the correct decision was made.
Zingari Posted 30 August 2013 Posted 30 August 2013 If public/parliamentary opinion changes from now , I'd hazard a guess it will have been planned that way. It won't "just happen".
MooseBreath Posted 30 August 2013 Posted 30 August 2013 Lots of talk this morning about Cameron losing standing over this. Surely the vast majority of the public will be delighted and full of respect for a leader who is willing to put his own wishes on the line in order to run a representative democracy the way it is supposed to be ran. What a refreshing change from the "i'll bomb who I want" days under Blair. Miliband's putrid desperation to score political points has never been so nauseating as it is this morning. Claiming this as a victory for Labour. Just stfu you ill-looking little fvck.

Democracy has won and weve hopefully avoided a lot of deatghs, for now at least, yet all Labour can do is try point scoring
Jon the Hat Posted 30 August 2013 Posted 30 August 2013 Exactly. Democracy has won and weve hopefully avoided a lot of deatghs, for now at least, yet all Labour can do is try point scoring It remains to be seen whether we have avoided anything at all. We may still become involved, or more likely the US and France may go ahead without us, and all we will have achieved is a lessening of our standing in the world.
James. Posted 30 August 2013 Posted 30 August 2013 The US will definitely go ahead. They can't back down now.

What standing, we are well known as America's bitch. We've got to be honest with ourselves Great Britian isn't as Great as it used to be, let's focus our efforts on Britian and when were Great again we can then try and gain some standing.

We are one of 5 nations with a permanent seat on the UN security council. That is important. We also still have a lot of influence in the commonwealth, and strong relations with the US. Look at Spain, they had an empire, so did the dutch. Do they have our influence? No.
