Yes, it took a while to get two great individual players playing together and pearson has done it. It was shown yesterday in the Coventry match as they both provided each others goals!
Ian W LCFC Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 The beckford goal yesterday just shows their partnership is fully formed
lcfc matt Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 I'm sure it will come give them pre season together and they will both be firing on all cylinders
martin7 Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Defo right mate hope we are in the prem with that strikeforce next season
Ian W LCFC Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 It is definately the best strike force in the championship
cc_star Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 He's got quality, real quality. Needs to be banging them in though, 3 or 4 league goals is woeful, not just bad or even very bad, but so abjectly dire it's almost unthinkable. If he'd have done what he was purchased for and scored about 1 in about 2 (instead of 1 in about 8), we'd have turned some of our defeats into draws and some of our draws into win and would be far, far better off. Even fatty Fryatt who get's made of fun of on here has scoring rate of about 1 in 3. Since the team settled down & started playing as a team after that Barnsley shambles, he's looked much better & plays like he wants to receive the ball and his talent is good enough to make things happen, but please for the love of god - keep scoring Becks.
paddy Agyemang Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Always loved beckford But I think Pearson will sell him in the summer
dave the caveman Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Nigel Pearson seems to be bringing out the best in Beckford and Beckford looks like he's quite happy. Hopefully this balance remains into next season and he'll probably be among the top scorers in the league next season. Nugent meanwhile is my outfield player of the season so far.
Guest Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 I still haven't really seen what your raving about in Beckford's play. Nugent has been great but other than a lot of huffing and puffing I haven't seen that much from Beckford. I'm sure we will as he should be a top Championship striker. But if this is as good as it gets we've been robbed.
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Always loved beckford But I think Pearson will sell him in the summer Selling him would seem counterproductive, especially when you consider his partnership with Nugent has really flourished in the last 6 weeks or so. Mouthwatering for next season!
LesterGloster Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Having watched Beckford a few times now I reckon he is pretty poor when it comes to getting on the end of Schmeichel's long clearances. I don't know why our goalie persists in these long ball hoof up the pitch when it clearly is not Beckford (or Nugents, for that matter) game. Howard loves his flick on's from these long passes. Beckford's strength is in his ability around the box and this is where we should get the ball to him. Work the ball from defence and create the openings a la Dyer and Nugent, yesterday, against Cov.
Babylon Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Thought he was pretty garbage for about 89 of the 90 minutes yesterday, but the one minute he was good set up a goal and scored one.
Ric Flair Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Thought he was pretty garbage for about 89 of the 90 minutes yesterday, but the one minute he was good set up a goal and scored one. I think most of our players were crap yesterday, I wasn't impressed at all.

Disagree, constantly tracked about and put pressure on the opposition. Also one goal one assist is a good game for any striker.

Next time watch him off the ball, he is working really hard atm, making plenty of runs which in turn is creating space for teammates, and giving the opposition less time on the ball.

Let's forget about his terrible start, and focus on what he's doing now. His goals to games ratio for this season is always going to be shit because of his dire performances early on in the season. Let's judge him from his last few games till the end of the season.
Guest Col city fan Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Another typically imbalanced thread IMO. Beckford had a terrible start to his City career but is now starting to improve. I remain torn on him because, at times he looks sensational, then he'll go and give the ball away cheaply. His first touch IS appalling and the ball does not stick at his feet enough. And, I'm afraid you can't get away from the stats. There are currently at least 25 players in the division who have scored more goals than Jermaine, including some midfielders and some who have not played the number of games he has. This is not good enough for our top striker although I DO accept that he's starting to score more. Jury remains out for me...
ousefox Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 his little chip to Marshall with his left foot was fantastic
Babylon Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 Next time watch him off the ball, he is working really hard atm, making plenty of runs which in turn is creating space for teammates, and giving the opposition less time on the ball. I did watch him, and have watched him and those things were not good enough for me. He's been much better of late, but I thought he was poor.
Mack Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 He does not look technically pretty but somehow finds a way. I am starting to really really like him and his partnership with Nugent. After a few games I was starting to think it was DJ all over again but Beckford stuck to his task and with the increased work rate and determination he has shown under Pearson it has really clicked for him. Right now he is invaluable to our aspirations.

I'll make you a deal... I'll watch him off the ball if you watch the number of times he gives the ball away because he has neither the touch nor the strength to keep it at feet. He does this typically at very important times in the game also, when we are usually under pressure. And I don't think I ever see him win many headers? Beckford, for me, is the biggest culprit in the 'if you can't keep the ball you can't win football matches' scenario. But I'll watch his runs, if you do that for me? Because some of the runs he makes really are very very good... Deal?
NewburyFox Posted 4 March 2012 Posted 4 March 2012 His first touch is probably the worst in the team, and that really does bug me. But his partnership with Nugent is slowly forming and, if he's still a starter next season, then I'm certain that he'll get a few more goals than his current tally this season. Nigel will get him firing.
