Equal most red cards in a season

Full-back Paul Konchesky's sending-off in last weekend's 2-0 win over the Sky Blues was also significant in the record books.

His departure took the number of City dismissals so far this season to eight – and equalled a club record.

Other players to receive red cards are Howard, Matt Mills (twice), Neil Danns (twice), Kasper Schmeichel, Jermaine Beckford and Darius Vassell.

Club historian Dave Smith said City also had eight players sent off in 1994-95 and 2004-05.

Smith said: "The figure for this season is actually nine if you count Danns' dismissal in pre-season against Real Mallorca in July."

We must be the dirtiest team in the League, most reds in the league, most penalties conceded, then surely we must have committed the most fouls.

Apparently not, we are way down in the bottom half of the league table for number of fouls committed this season.

So why do we have the highest conversion rate of fouls to reds and fouls to yellows in the league? Are we very dirty players? We seem to get quite a few bookings for dissent, but most of them have been questionable and not consistently enforced across the season.

I am not saying there is a conspiracy against us, but we really have been on the end of some shocking decisions this season (that is not responsible for our league position we are) but it does make you think.

After the Cov game and Konchesky's red I did a bit of digging and the most telling thing I found was Wes Morgan, in almost half a season for Forest he got booked 3 times in 25 matches, for Leicester he had played 3 matches and received 3 yellows (3 in 4 after Brizzle) same player at the same level is all of a sudden a dirty player when all he has done is changed clubs. It is very strange.

The reason is quite simple - egotistical players playing for emselves with too little regard for team dynamics and showing too little mouse in tight match situations. There have been a few bad reffong decisions but also all too little realisation of the importance of not offering your opponents any encouragement.konchesky is probably the worst culprit.

Against Posh it was 1-1 and they were playing for a draw, one of their players had the ball in e corner and one of our defenders had the situation under control and was about to get a goal kick. Konchesky sprinted from the edge of the six yard box flattened both players, conceded a free kick and got booked.p/boro could hardly believe their luck - it was an astonishing piece of brain- dead play which has typified much of our play this season. And it could have been far worse. Konchesky could easily have been sent off and our defender could have easily been injured.

I genuinely wouldn't rule out something iffy going on, that stat about Morgan is ridiculous and do we really come across as very dirty? I agree, no.

But then again 8 red cards already and we're just in March, what a shambolic discipline that is. Dreadful.

The stat about Morgan isn't ridiculous, he made a cynical foul at Derby and was rightly booked for it, he was lucky to stay on the field against Coventry, and was rightly booked. The bookings would have been given to any player, regardless of the team he is playing for.

Our ill discipline has cost us too many times this season, and believe it or not it hasn't always been the referees fault for making a mistake.

Nine including Danns pre-season at Real Mallorca I think!
