MikeyT Posted 20 March 2012 Posted 20 March 2012 Appreciate all he has done for the club. He's been a good servant for us. Wish him all the best for his future. Thanks Matt.
HoustonFox Posted 20 March 2012 Posted 20 March 2012 Fooking Weale I do indeed remember that. Was visiting and took my Dad for his birthday and we got to meet the Birch and have dinner before the game. Remember thinking that Danns bloke looks decent...
lcfcliam Posted 20 March 2012 Posted 20 March 2012 What a load of shit. Could not agree anymore with what you've just said what a load of tosh
Corky Posted 20 March 2012 Posted 20 March 2012 Oakley was a leading member of the side that took us into the 3rd division for the first time in our history. He may have played a role in getting us back up, but the blemish still remains. Berner doesn't carry that stigma. I take it you won't clap Fryatt on Saturday then?
Jimmy Posted 20 March 2012 Posted 20 March 2012 I take it you won't clap Fryatt on Saturday then? no I won't be, Oakley was a mediocre player for us, good luck to him for the future but he was hardly a hero for us. Fryatt spat his dummy out with Sven cus he wasn't allowed to waste 5 chances a game whilst making Daniel Sturridge look like a team player

Happy Fox Posted 20 March 2012 Posted 20 March 2012 He was a sheepshagger at heart f**k him I say couldn't give a shit for us, the way he lauded those sheepshaggers did it for me ungrateful t**t, excuse the language he was a distinctly average player nothing more nothing less.

Unusually hostile for you Happy!!??
MrSpaM Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 It's not all about appearances and goal, sometimes not even about quality. If you don't know the difference between a player like Oakley and a player like Berner then you're in the wrong sport. If your slating a player who led us to a league title your in the wrong sport imo
Guest Col city fan Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 If your slating a player who led us to a league title your in the wrong sport imo This... Fook knows why Matt Oakley would be slated for anything? Good bloke, good captain, great attitude and never did the club any harm that I can think of? Good luck Matt
Houdini Logic Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 If your slating a player who led us to a league title your in the wrong sport imo Would you like to point out the part where I'm slating him?
MrSpaM Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Would you like to point out the part where I'm slating him? Youve implied Oakley dosnt deserve the same respect from our fans as Berner got when he left. Whats this huge difference between him and Berner then?
RizLCFC Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 He was decent but in his last couple of years he's been quite woeful apart from his strike v Forest last year which was a sweet hit. As for captaining us to the League One title, our side was way too good for that division anybody could've captained us imo, but I would give him a send off he's been a decent servant!
Houdini Logic Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Youve implied Oakley dosnt deserve the same respect from our fans as Berner got when he left. Whats this huge difference between him and Berner then? I don't think he deserves the same respect as Berner but that's hardly slating him, is it? What annoys me is you pointing out that Oakley played more games than Berner, as if the amount of games you play is somehow related to the respect you should be given. By your logic Ricardo is a better player than Mark Davies! Oakley was a good midfielder and a good captain who served us well, but occasionally he was a bit lightweight and if a game seemed out of sight he'd just tick along and go through the motions. Berner played with his heart on his sleeve, sometimes (towards the latter part) being outclassed, but always giving 100%. He'd get stuck in, he'd give his all until the final whistle and on his day he showed raw talent and class. Berner also seemed to be involved with what the club was doing or getting involved with training, even when he wasn't part of the team. He seemed a professional that was grateful to be involved with the sport he loved and grateful to be involved with our club. Oakley was a good player on his day, but I certainly couldn't say the same sort of things.
dannythefox Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Was a good player for us under Pearson but it's time for him to go looks like Pearson is trimming the wage bill for a couple of summer signings Howard should be next

Oakley was a good player on his day, but I certainly couldn't say the same sort of things. It wasnt the amount of games i was pointing out at all, it was more of the fact that Oakley has probably been just as much of a service to the club as Berner was in my eyes, and possibly had a more pivitol role in getting us promoted. Yet there are fans on here saying they were glad he's gone, and are pretty negative towards him. I understand Bruno was seen by our fans as somebody who did a lot for the club, but surely Oakley deserves the same sort of respect, even if the past two seasons havnt been so great for him. He still did a job for our club.
Guesty Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Think he shood get a mention at the next home game. Kept getting stuck out on the right wing which was obviously not his natural position. His legs had obvious gone, yet he still went out on the right wing. When he got put back in the centre towards the end of last year he looked more comfortable. Yeh he clapped the Derby fans its annoying but he was their captain for a while. If we'd won the game people wouldn't have complained half as much.
Sods Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Think he had one of his best spells last season towards the end, looked like he cared a lot more and saw it as his last opportunity. League one could of gone a lot more wrong but thanks to the likes of Oakley, Berner and Howard's experience helped the youth such as King, Cleverley, Hobbs and Fryatt to express themselves. Getting us out of that league first time of asking was a great achievement thanks Matt!
