Rincewind Posted 31 March 2012 Posted 31 March 2012 Airmans Rest Some nice young girls went there. A few stopped after I did.
jonthefox Posted 31 March 2012 Posted 31 March 2012 The Red Room - pub just near clock tower above the entrance to haymarket shopping centre. Cracking bar that just played rock/metal all the time Met the mrs in there. ****in place, I hope they bulldoze it.
Rincewind Posted 31 March 2012 Posted 31 March 2012 Change a bit over the years but now back better than ever. Run by great licensees serving fantastic ales.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 31 March 2012 Posted 31 March 2012 I miss The Charlotte already. Great venue to see a band when they bothered to book one. Had everything a good rock venue needed, which apparently didn't include a toilet seat or door.
Phube Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 I miss The Oven Door in Wigston. Best doughnuts and iced fingers... Ever!
m00nie Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 Change a bit over the years but now back better than ever. Run by great licensees serving fantastic ales. quick look i thought it was the dover castle at first..

Bilo Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 St. Margaret's Baths - Always enjoyed a swim there as a kid. The Charlotte - Nice little music venue. Pump and Tap - Far too many character pubs gone. Filbert Street - Obviously.
m00nie Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 St. Margaret's Baths - Always enjoyed a swim there as a kid. totally forgot all about that.. many times went up to the top diver but never went off it though as always bottled it ..
clare Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 Filbert Street and Ainleys are definitely missed, as is skating at Granby Halls! I don't know if it's sentimental bull, but the city centre does seem so much more depressing these days. I left Leicester in September 2001 and whenever I've been back since, the city centre has just seemed unclean/littered, dull and depressing.
ajthefox Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 The Swiss Cottage on Churchgate. Mum used to take me and the big sister in there on the way back from town a fair amount. Used to love it in there with all the old copper and the smell was amazing.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 Airmans Rest Some nice young girls went there. A few stopped after I did. Used to have a massive rear-projection TV there, was a great venue for watch City on Sky, almost like a cinema! St. Margaret's Baths - Always enjoyed a swim there as a kid. The Charlotte - Nice little music venue. Pump and Tap - Far too many character pubs gone. Filbert Street - Obviously. How did I not mention this!?
Poakey Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 Bits and Bytes computer shop down Churchgate and Zodiac Toys used to love going in there looking at the Speccy games. Also Ainleys and ST Margerates baths.

The Wyvern has gone though? Wasn't that the one with the flagstone floor? Quite a character pub. In my youth I used to help clean The Black Boy.

Trav Le Bleu Posted 3 April 2012 Posted 3 April 2012 Sometimes I had to poke around in some very tight places, and I would spend ages buffing the knobs. (There actually was a lot of brass in there )
Bellend Sebastian Posted 3 April 2012 Posted 3 April 2012 The Firkin pubs were just part of a chain that sprung up in the 80s so I don't really see any great lose in them. The Wyvern has gone though? Wasn't that the one with the flagstone floor? Quite a character pub. In my youth I used to help clean The Black Boy. The Wyvern is long gone, it turned into some half arsed sport themed bar before closing for ages and has now turned into a Sainsburys Local. The Black Boy is open at the minute isn't it? I think it might have shut down for a time but I'm pretty sure it reopened again. I was verbally abused by a massively pissed old Irish bloke who I assumed had been drinking in there just a few weeks ago. It's not the pub it used to be, but was still delightfully barmy the last time I went in there
Len Finsbury Posted 3 April 2012 Posted 3 April 2012 What's happened to the Bricklayers now then? I live away from Leicester now. I remember its short time as Shifty's too.
