  1. 1. It's time to...

    • Beef up the war, kill them all, whatever the cost
    • Legalise and tax, the war never worked so let's earn not spend
    • Keep the not-fit-for-purpose status quo
    • Go to the shop, I have the munchies
    • Sack Pearson, it's the only solution to the drugs war

Never touched it. I was just being pickyWe have sent an ultimation to drugs. If they do not withdraw from the UK we will be at war.

Sorry. I was bored. :)

Re drugs I am a believer in not closing the stable door after the horse has bolted. Deal with the causes and reasons for drug use and it will go a long way to solving  the problem

Yes I thought that was what you meant. :)

I was trying to avoid carrying on with puns.

Neither is a viable option unfortunately.

War won't work.

No government will legalise or decriminalise and stay in power, so it won't happen.

It is going to take a brave politician who proposes such a policy. It will mean having very good spin doctors and convincing the general public that what they are doing is good for the country and everybody despite any evidence to the contrary. Surely the general public will not fall for any misleading information that they would pass on via their choice of supportive media.

We couldn't even downgrade the classification of cannabis from B to C without them putting it back again - against the recommendation of the very advisory council paid to inform the government - laughable.

Think there is a difference between wanting to take drugs and needing to take them. The first is you are conscious  of what you are doing and most likely know the dangers. The second is when you think taking them may take away your other troubles if only for a while and sometimes a silent cry for help.

Isn't drug use declining? I'm not sure it's something we need to do anything about.

Yeah it has been declining steadily for years I think. Looks like the current under 16 and 16 to 24 generations are more into their social media than going out and doing drugs. I don't see any urgent need to reclassify drugs either but it would be irresponsible not to look seriously at the benefits, particularly around money saved on policing and money gained in tax.

Nick Clegg didn't go far enough. If he put full legalization of Mary-Jo in his manifesto, along USA lines, he would get more votes.

Dammit, if Nick Griffin put legalization in his manifesto, people would vote for him.

That line smacks of misinformation.  We already have a thread covering this discussion - I suggest you read it. There's plenty of real-world evidence that ending the 'drug war' and creating legitimate enterprise is the most practical solution.  Now that the USA's begun to learn for the second time that prohibition doesn't work and started seriously experimenting with legalisation I'd wager my car that we'll soon have even more.

I agree. But it only takes a couple of bad press stories. I'm not sure myself. Along with the legalisation there would have to be better education and re habitation prorams for those that want or need it. There wont be a sudden increase in the use but the ones using will be more noticeable. It will no longer be a sneaky puff at parties for some. It is the hard drugs that is the problem. They should be tackled at the root and not just by punishing the user but helping them.

This is an article about Mariannne Faithful l talking about Mick Jaggers last girlfriend who took her own life. She says it could have been her as Mick Jagger was difficult to be with and did take an overdose when with him when 22. She also talks about Jim Morrion and how he died. Her BF at the time was a drug dealer who visited Morrison at the apartment in France where he died.

Yes maybe but did you use the stronger stuff? Heroine Cocaine? I have never took them. Never felt the need or desire. Some people may start on the stronger stuff as an escape from the real world when finding it hard to cope. Get high and you don't have to worry about things for a while. The beating you are taking off your partner will not hurt o much.

Recreational drugs I am unsure about. They may affect people in different ways. I prefer to leave it to those that have done the research and have the medical knowledge.

Cocaine is a recreational drug Ken.

People take it because they enjoy it, I've not done it for a while now but can see why someone with a few quid on a night out would do.

Certainly doesn't cause you to be staggering down the steps of the goose at 1pm unable to walk unaided. :)
