artursteppe Posted 18 April 2012 Posted 18 April 2012 For three years now I have been saying any manager who ever picks two strikers with King Wellens and Gallagher in the same starting lineup should be sacked for incompetence in a physically challenging league with uncompromising opposition, especially from the bottom half of the table. I have now been worn down by the popular support for Pearson, King, Wellens, and Gallagher plus Dyer that I have decided I must be wrong. It must have been right for Pearson to pick the afformentioned trio against yet another strong and hardworking Millwall midfield because it was such an important game to us. Obviously we were unlucky again, as we have been over recent seasons against lower league teams who have little skill but plenty of strength and effort. How unfair it is when this great trio of midfield players are so good and much more skillful than the teams we lose to. I feel so sorry for Nigel Pearson. How unlucky he was to lose Yuki Abe ( 50 international caps ) and Gelson Fernandes ( 34 international caps and a regular starting position with Udinese who are 4th in the top Italian League ), or was it because they are so obviously not as good as King Wellens and Gallagher. Yes that must be it, because Nigel Pearson is such a fantastic manager!

Remind me what other managers also kept playing your hated players, even though they bought players to replace them. Also remind me which managers it was that dished out expensive new contracts to all of these players.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 18 April 2012 Posted 18 April 2012 I think Yuki left more for personal reasons and Gelson had been dropped by Sven long before NP got here.

Yes that must be it, because Nigel Pearson is such a fantastic manager! You ever also thought that maybe Nigel needs to balance the books? Abe and Fernandes were on silly money by the sounds of it and no better than what we have.... The money Sven spent on signings and wages is obscene really.... Only time Nigel has had to strengthen was January.... and he was hardly going to be able to buy a top drawer centre midfielder at that stage of the season so give him time....
Babylon Posted 18 April 2012 Posted 18 April 2012 And not to forget we beat them 4-2 last year with King, Wellens and Dyer playing. God knows how we managed that with them.
Babylon Posted 18 April 2012 Posted 18 April 2012 How many times do people need it explaining that Abe and Gelson WANTED to leave. Fernandes was in the papers before Pearson arrived saying he wanted to go due to him only being here for Sven.

Yes that must be it, because Nigel Pearson is such a fantastic manager! You're post is flawed mate. Gelson and Abe wanted to leave. And from what I saw of them were no better than those you mentioned. That's been the problem.. Sven filled the squad with players who were no better, and in some cases worst than those we had before.

artursteppe Posted 18 April 2012 Author Posted 18 April 2012 Let me explain something to those naive enough to think that just because players 'choose to leave a club', does not mean they were not in fact forced out. Gelson Fernandes so obviously wanted to leave when he asked to be included in a reserve team match ( for which he was not selected ), then played and scored four goals just to prove he wanted to go. Yuki Abe, and Fernandes were not selected, sat in the stands or on the bench, watching the incompetent dross playing instead of them and probably, and quite rightly, thought Pearson was a T*t of the highest order.
artursteppe Posted 18 April 2012 Author Posted 18 April 2012 Fact - our midfield has been our biggest problem for several seasons now. Any common denominators I wonder? Work it out!

Yes that must be it, because Nigel Pearson is such a fantastic manager! And what would you have done? changed the formation, if so to what? Magically signed a new midfielder despite the fact the transfer window is closed? Taken Danns to see a witch doctor to get his injury magically healed? Drinkwater may have been better in midfield against Millwall, but he in the last 2 games he was poor and King came on and looked a lot better. Dyer likewise, who Gallagher replaced, and it could have worked to get Dyer's fresh legs on to run at a tired Millwall later on. If we lose it is always easy in hindsight to pick a problem, but before the game with the limited options we had available what else are we going to do, keep the same team that were so poor first half at Ipswich? Change the formation even though we have played our best in 442 and doing so we would have to have sacrificed a front man or some width which hasn't worked in the past. You obviously believe you are a better manager than NP, so instead of critising give me solutions.

Well unfortunately for you there are articles in the foreign press freely available online, where Fernandes stated he wanted to leave. This was before Pearson had even left Hull. So if you blindly want to use that stick to beat Pearson, then carry on doing so. All it does is make your posts look rather badly thought out. If these players are so bad then why did Sousa and Sven keep playing them. Not only that, why the hell did they also dish out huge new contracts to them? "Pearson signed them" you'll probably cry next. Yes, he signed them for league one (Dyer) and to consolidate our position in this league (Wellens & Gallagher). Now, that turned out rather well didn't it. The owners have new targets now and Pearson may very well change things about. But, If they can't get moved on in the summer then direct your anger at Sousa and Sven. Rather than the manager left with the mess to sort out.

Fernandes wanted to play in the reserve match because scouts from Udinese were there. Abe had plenty of chances to prove his superiority in midfield and worth of a starting place, but he didn't. Fact - our midfield has been our biggest problem for several seasons now. Any common denominators I wonder? Work it out! David Cameron has been in power, all of our problems started when he blagged his way into office.
Babylon Posted 18 April 2012 Posted 18 April 2012 Fact - our midfield has been our biggest problem for several seasons now. Any common denominators I wonder? Work it out! Well it ain't Pearson as he wasn't here for the most part.
Corky Posted 18 April 2012 Posted 18 April 2012 Fact - our midfield has been our biggest problem for several seasons now. Any common denominators I wonder? Work it out! So why didn't Sousa and Sven try and get rid of them?
Babylon Posted 18 April 2012 Posted 18 April 2012 So why didn't Sousa and Sven try and get rid of them? Wait for it.... "oh the Manchester Mafia run the club and got him sacked".
Happy Fox Posted 18 April 2012 Posted 18 April 2012 We get the idea they aren't good enough, Sven had the chance to get rid of them last summer but didn't so we are stuck with them, and hopefully this summer NP can rectify things, personally Wellens, Gallagher, Dyer, Howard aren't good enough for team aspiring for promotion, King has the potential I rather see him in the team than Wellens. With regards to Yuki and Fernandes they wanted to leave.

Yes that must be it, because Nigel Pearson is such a fantastic manager! This is the extraordinary LCFC phenomenon which dictates that players who are out of the side are brilliant but ignored by a useless manager, while those in the team are just plain useless. Before NFP dropped him everyone agreed Mills was the cause of a leaky defence and no club captain, since he's been out there's been a growing clamour to have him back and huge criticism of the manager for falling out with him in the first place. I notice how many people rate Pantsil yet every time I've seen him he looks like his legs are tied together. Fernandes was brilliant against the sheep but in which other game was he a dominant force in midfield? Abe had plenty of chances to prove his indispensability - he was just hugely inconsistent and too easily brushed off the ball to play anything other than a bit part. The extended use of Gallagher, Dyer and Wellens proves one thing and one thing alone - the lack of viable alternatives.
Happy Fox Posted 18 April 2012 Posted 18 April 2012 Why would you not want to keep Dyer and Wellens in particular as squad players? Even as squad players they aren't good enough their time is up at the club imo along with Howard and Gallagher.
Fox 4 Life Posted 18 April 2012 Posted 18 April 2012 Even as squad players they aren't good enough their time is up at the club imo along with Howard and Gallagher. I agree with Wellens but Dyer has proved multiple times this season that he is still an asset
