AjcW Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 After a fantastic season and a collective of fantastic careers Sunday saw the end of several AC Milan players. AC Milan begin new era as club legends Gattuso, Seedorf, Inzaghi and Nesta bow out in tears The end of an era at AC Milan was greeted with tears from the players who will no longer wear the famous black and red shirt. A host of established stars will move on from the club since summer after years of loyal service, with one such individual Filippo Inzaghi bowing out the match-winning goal in a 2-1 over Novara. Gennaro GattusoAlessandro NestaMark van Bommel Dry your eyes, mate: Gianluca Zambrotta was one of several players to break down as he saluted the fans on his final game for AC Milan Perfect send off: Filippo Inzaghi scored the winner as a substitute late on The 38-year-old, who has played 11 seasons at the San Siro, is yet to decide on his future and leaves with the likes of Gennaro Gattuso, Alessandro Nesta, Clarence Seedorf, Mark van Bommel and Gianluca Zambrotta. Nearly of those who are waving goodbye to Milan, especially tough-tackling Gattuso who departs after 13 seasons, left the San Siro pitch in tears. Tearful farewell: Midfielder Gattuso was in tears as he said his goodbyes Milan, who won the title last year, finished second and four points behind unbeaten Juventus. Elsewhere in Italy, Udinese clinched third place and a spot in the qualifying rounds for the Champions League, the same stage they reached last year where they were beaten by Arsenal. Thanks for the memories: Clarence Seedorf is also set to leave the club Lazio took fourth despite going behind to Inter when Diego Milito scored from a penalty, the Argentine's 24th Serie A goal of the season, on the stroke of half-time. I think a fresh approach next season could see them challenging to regain both the Seria A and possibly the Champions League as well before long P.S. The spell checker and error checker has clearly broke at the Mail Online.
Jordan Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 Those names read like a Hall of Fame. There's been a lot of talk linking Nesta to the NY Red Bulls (possibly Zambrotta, too). Gattuso wants to go back to Rangers, but that may not be up to him to decide.
Haydos Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 Incredible group of players. Nesta, Inzaghi, Gattuso and Seedorf are legends.
Kitchandro Posted 15 May 2012 Posted 15 May 2012 Am I right in thinking Seedorf will be doing Euro coverage for the BBC again? That man is so charming Gattuso and Inzaghi played big parts in winning the world cup but it's ironic that Nesta, one of the all-time great Italian players, played one of the biggest, if it wasn't for his injury Materazzi wouldn't have played... Fantastic players for club and country the lot of them, but Milan are starting to look a much better side and it's time they moved on.
MC Prussian Posted 15 May 2012 Posted 15 May 2012 Who will replace them? Do Milan have a good academy or are they just going to buy big names/established players again? Ibrahimovic and Bonera are turning 31 this year, Ambrosini and Abbiati 35 in a few weeks, Antonini and Cassano will be 30. What strikes me is that they've currently got over 30 players out on loan - that's another entire squad (and more)!!
leicsmac Posted 15 May 2012 Posted 15 May 2012 Fantastic bunch of players...but won't be too unhappy to see the back of Gattuso. The man was a thug. Italian Joey Barton. (But a fair bit better at actually playing the game).
Finnegan Posted 15 May 2012 Posted 15 May 2012 Super Pippo. One of my all time favourite players. Complete arsehole on the pitch but complete genius. What did Ferguson say about him? "He must have been born offside."
Uncle Phil Posted 15 May 2012 Posted 15 May 2012 How the hell was Inzaghi still playing? I thought he was old when Italian football was on channel 4.
Finnegan Posted 15 May 2012 Posted 15 May 2012 How the hell was Inzaghi still playing? I thought he was old when Italian football was on channel 4. :D He's 38 haha. He was peaking when he moved to Milan and he's been there over a decade
Out Foxed Posted 15 May 2012 Posted 15 May 2012 end of an era. it's like on champo when you go so many seasons in the future and all the players you know have retired (not really)

I'm going by football manager here but whenever I've played as a Serie A team, it seems like 90% of their 'reserves' are loaned out to lower league clubs.
