davieG Posted 24 July 2012 Author Posted 24 July 2012 The prime minister of Pakistan was asked a couple of years ago "what are you going to do about number of educated people leaving the country, there are so little youth being educated and they leave the country, surely to make this country stronger we need to keep our educated youth?" his answer was "Let them leave" You really cannot understand the level of poverty within Pakistan until you visit. 85% of children are only educated up until 11. Perhaps he should divert some of the billions spent on developing nuclear weapons into education. I'm sure they'll be a mountain of excuses. The US-based Reaching Critical Will, a non-profit body that stands for nuclear disarmament and peace and works closely with the UN, claims that Pakistan spends around $2.5 billion on nuclear weapons. While some countries continue to spend significant national resources on their nuclear programmes, diplomats of other countries that do not possess nuclear bombs wonder why hundreds of millions of dollars must be spent on weapons of mass destruction and not on achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) — a criticism mounting on Pakistan and India alike - http://tribune.com.pk/story/366285/pakistan-india-priorities-un-panel-questions-nuclear-expenses/. Mind you the USA doesn't help with it's support.

Similar to India World Bank statistics found that fewer than 40 percent of adolescents in India attend secondary schools.[3] The Economist reports that half of 10-year-old rural children could not read at a basic level, over 60% were unable to do division, and half dropped out by the age 14.[17] Indians seem to be doing ok!!!! Majority of my family in the UK are illiterate, so do you think all iliterates requires teaching in integration??????

Ok so how exactly does your family "integrate themselves into society" what is your definition of integration? going down to the pub for a drink?

There was me thinking it was non existant. Though I have to say, the Pakistani PM has a poor attitude there. Ok so how exactly does your family "integrate themselves into society" what is your definition of integration? going down to the pub for a drink? Probably by just getting on with life and not bothering too much about it and treating everyone the same, thus avoiding a scene and in the process, seeming out of place by being a total try-hard. *Sorry Singh, just jumping in there.
Dr The Singh Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Ok so how exactly does your family "integrate themselves into society" what is your definition of integration? going down to the pub for a drink? Very clever, yes my grandmas and aunties are forever getting pissed at the pub, hence they are integrated as that what British culture and integration requires.

I'd say that was fairly non existent. Also you will find the majority of Muslims do get on with life and treat everyone the same. The handful which get the limelight in this islamaphobic media environment are not true representation of the majority.

You've hit the nail on the head Darkon..it's treating people equal, no matter what walks of life they are from. By doing so, accepting people and there behaviours are different and not imposing or chastising ones difference. Also equality brings about focus on similarities and overlooking differences, accpeting your surroundings and doing what's best for all those people around you!!!
hejammy Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Very clever, yes my grandmas and aunties are forever getting pissed at the pub, hence they are integrated as that what British culture and integration requires. That still doesnt answer my question although your sarcasm is truly the highest form of wit.......and yes i get the irony of that statement!

WTF are you on, one minute, there's not a problem, next minute it's a minority, next minute they need to be taught, cus education is not there, and now it's majority get on with life and treat everyone the same. Man are you confused!!!!
hejammy Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 You've hit the nail on the head Darkon..it's treating people equal, no matter what walks of life they are from. By doing so, accepting people and there behaviours are different and not imposing or chastising ones difference. Also equality brings about focus on similarities and overlooking differences, accpeting your surroundings and doing what's best for all those people around you!!! So from your statement I assume that you think that Muslims do not treat people equally, do not accept people for their differing behaviours? Also every muslim is imposing or chastising the general population? So if I assume that all sikhs are like the sikh guy from the EDL, is that ok? Generalisation is perhaps your biggest downfall
Dr The Singh Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 That still doesnt answer my question although your sarcasm is truly the highest form of wit.......and yes i get the irony of that statement! Read my response to Darkon comments!!! And you should have more respect for us Brits, we all don't go to the pub, and the pub has little to do with the need to integrate!!
hejammy Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 WTF are you on, one minute, there's not a problem, next minute it's a minority, next minute they need to be taught, cus education is not there, and now it's majority get on with life and treat everyone the same. Man are you confused!!!! I never said there wasn't a problem - take your own advice, and read the posts carefully. I said that it was the minority and these minority do not represent the total muslim population in the UK.
Darkon84 Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 85% do not get an education after 11 years old? I'd say that was fairly non existent. Also you will find the majority of Muslims do get on with life and treat everyone the same. The handful which get the limelight in this islamaphobic media environment are not true representation of the majority. I agree the number of people getting education after 11 is abysmally low, but by definition, it exists, therefore I am correct, you are wrong, yes Im being a nob, and no, I dont really care. I know the majority of Muslims get on with their life, because thats what people do. You were the one questioning integration, and now you agree with me. Think its time for you to give it a rest mate.
hejammy Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Read my response to Darkon comments!!! And you should have more respect for us Brits, we all don't go to the pub, and the pub has little to do with the need to integrate!! Respect for US brits? Did you not read the post where I said I was born and raised in the UK? I never started the argument, I simply did not think your language was appropriate. The point about going to the pub to integrate was made as I do not see you making any other comments about integration, dont hide behind other peoples post
AoWW Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 That still doesnt answer my question although your sarcasm is truly the highest form of wit.......and yes i get the irony of that statement! Perhaps he just didn't feel the need to justify personal aspects of his family's life to you. Just a thought.

Also every muslim is imposing or chastising the general population? So if I assume that all sikhs are like the sikh guy from the EDL, is that ok? Generalisation is perhaps your biggest downfall That's what your stating, I never said anything about Muslim people, I said minority P**kistani muslims, which there's enough to cause a issue, which you wrote post saying the there was an issue with a minority, so get your facts right!!! You can assume all you want, I don't really give a flying shit about your opinions!!
hejammy Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 I agree the number of people getting education after 11 is abysmally low, but by definition, it exists, therefore I am correct, you are wrong, yes Im being a nob, and no, I dont really care. Think its time for you to give it a rest mate. Ok darkon you are right? happy? Education does exist. Now do you feel like the bigger man? great I did not question integration, I simply asked for Dr Singhs perception of integration! and to give it a rest - again i will reiterate - I will not "rest" when there are clear racists remarks by Dr Singh. Other than that I actually wasnt going to post on this subject

"I didnt say anything about Muslim people" Oh please - all you did was say Muslims this and muslims that......oh dear.....
Dr The Singh Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Respect for US brits? Did you not read the post where I said I was born and raised in the UK? I never started the argument, I simply did not think your language was appropriate. Flying shit? yea thats right resort to swearing. "I didnt say anything about Muslim people" Oh please - all you did was say Muslims this and muslims that......oh dear..... Quote me with the context ofcourse and prove me wrong!
hejammy Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 You really should learn to read, being born here does not mean your integrated! And who are you exactly to say that I am not integrated into society? Again I will say - get off your high horse! You said "Us brits" implying I was not a "brit" so again I say - take your own advice and learn to read! I did not make this an argument against Muslims, you did! you want Muslims to integrate then stop generalising them! People like you actually make me sick. You are the king of jumping on the bandwagon.

hejammy Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 I live in a completely mixed race area, I am a professional, I volunteer at the local community centre, I support England in whichever sport they compete in, I enjoy evenings out with friends, I do part time tuition for kids in my local area. I have never taken any form of job seekers allowance or any other form of benefit. I own my house and have paid National Insurance and Income tax since I started work after University. I enjoy going to concerts and love my music! Is that integrated enough for you? or perhaps because of my religion that still isnt good enough!? not blowing my own trumpet but just trying to prove a point.
hejammy Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 You must be seriously sensitive. Does that last comment not suggest that perhaps you need to get off your high horse too? Look anotherofsinghswomen - his comments about Muslims and generalisation make me sick - if thats me getting on my high horse then so be it! but for me its not acceptable
