Chilli Sauce

Recommended Posts

Having a bit of a debate with myself at the minute as to what the best chilli sauce is.

I have a top two and these are Encona and Nandos chilli and herb.

After much deliberation I have decided that Encona is, by the layer of tongue skin it burns of, the best chilli sauce for me.

For the record, I find the Reggae Reggae sauces a bit boring. The spicy tomato ketchup is much better than the BBQ but probably wouldn't make my top ten.

Also, if your tum is a bit delicate you can mix Encona with mayo which gives you all the delicious Encona taste without risking a trip to A&E.

Any more recommendations?

If you like hot sauces I recently found an extra hot version of the encona - and that shit is amazing. The normal encona is hot like you said but this one will blow your head off in the best way possible. I also like cholua but that isn't hot, it just has a nice taste.

One of the best I have had was homemade, it consisted of left over enchilada sauce blended with birds eye chills.

My sisters friend owns a chain of Burrito places in London that do THE best hot sauce I've ever tasted. Eye watering but also tastes amazing, I almost used an entire bottle on my burrito last time.

Next time you're in London check it out, Barbacoa steak burrito drowned in hot sauce washed down with a Corona

Encona West Indian is gorgeous as a table sauce, beautiful on burgers and chicken with tomato ketchup and that.

If you fancy a strong cooking sauce, you're probably going online to get the truly vicious stuff like this.

I did half a teaspoon of this once and felt sick as a dog for half an hour afterwards, so don't pour it on your chips!

Particularly like the Jeremy Clarkson reaction. lol

That said though, the stuff is brilliant for spicing up sauces you're making. I use it in chilli con carnes, pasta sauces and the like all the time; it gives them a kick like an angry donkey. Beautiful.

On the back of this bottle it says it can also be used as an industrial cleaner lol

Wife is Mexican and whenever a friend or family come over, they bring us loads of bottles of Zaaschila "Tres chiles" sauce, it's amazing. They also bring us squeezable chipotle sauce which is no less delicious, but is extremely hot.

You could try this recipe link from the famous Goat Gap Gazette

http://www.chilicookin.com/GoatGap2-05.htm

or order this recipe book:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chili-Lovers-Ckbk-Cookbooks-Restaurant-Guides/dp/091484606X.

I like this barbecue sauce from the Chili Lovers Cook Book (there are at least 2 books with the same title);

1/2 cup butter

I smalled minced onion

i clove minced garlic

1.5 tsp dry mustard

2 tbsp chili powder

1 cup tomato ketchup

1/2 cup vinegar

1/2 cup water

1 tbsp sugar

1 tbsp worcestershire sauce

Saute the onion and garlic in the butter. Add other ingredients and boil till it thickens. Put it on Aunties burger (and no that isn't a euphemism!)

My daughter brought me some of this back from New Orleans. One drop is enough to make food hotter than my wife will eat.

I've had insanity sauce too. I don't know how you managed to eat half a teaspoon. The last time I had a chilli eating contest I ended up in A&E with a bleeding ulcer. I've got to be careful these days!

I like the idea of making my own chilli sauce. I've got a Hungarian wax chilli bush in my garden. These are the ones you get with a kebab. Not too hot but very nice taste.

It looks like Encona gets a lot of votes for top chilli sauce!
