Cahill underwent a scan amid fears he fractured his jaw in a collision with England keeper Joe Hart in Saturday's 1-0 friendly win over Belgium. "The feedback is we're hoping his jaw is not cracked," Brooking said.
Mack Posted 3 June 2012 Posted 3 June 2012 Welcome to the modern day fan, the family atmosphere, I all for getting familys in, I all for getting kids involved, aslong as they are interested - They are the future fans and although I am seeming to blame kids and families in what i've just said no doubt there were adults on there own doing these things aswell, but the amount of the stuff you have decribes goes on a Leicester games does my head in, I forget how many times I have to get up and down during a game for people going toilet - And it's the same people, who can't hold their ale or their kids have had too much pop, or the kids are just simply bored, There is even a girl who sits near me who has a season ticket with her parents who takes a bloody book to the games and reads it throughout the match, every match. The modern fan I hear you. And you do get the odd bit at the King Power, but this was something on another level. This was I would say about half of the people inside Wembley almost completely disinterested in the game, and it wasn't just families, it was all sorts. I suppose there is an element of the tourist about going to see England at Wembley. But going back to seeing England at the old Wembley in a different era it was nothing like this at all, and back then you were lucky if you could see the game properly at all.

Corky Posted 3 June 2012 Posted 3 June 2012 Feel very sorry for Belgium. They came up against a very defensive and boring England team who showed no interest in trying to attack. It could have been a really good match as Belgium are a very good team, as I think at times, was clear from yesterday's match. We certainly deserved something from the game as let's face it, Belgium were better in pretty much every department... bar sticking one in the back of the net. Shame. Which is all that matters.
shen Posted 3 June 2012 Posted 3 June 2012 These results don't change anything for me. England were still poor. I find no motivation to watch them, and I really do think we will struggle to get out of the group stages. I can't see us beating France next week. And if you look at some of those results anyway, the full teams were not on show, for example, the Germany team that lost to Switzerland didn't include 8 Munich players, the Holland team that lost to Bulgria had players like Robben on the bench, and players that did play such as Van Der Vaart came off. We'll struggle. Fair enough, only trying to say that it's never reliable to judge form on friendlies. France will be a tough game, but a draw is not unrealistic. I don't rate Sweden. If England show up in that game, it will be three points. Ukraine are tough to predict, but they've looked good going forward and poor at the back in the few highlights I've seen of them over the past year. Solid and uninspiring football is what England have been known for, and I think it could be enough to get them out of the groups.

We've had some pretty skillful footballers who have been willing to show it for a long time. This team setup is boring. It will be difficult to beat and who knows it may win everything but the team is boring - that has nothing to do with results. When I watch a game I want to see exciting skillful football especially in a friendly. In a tournament I'd like them to win but if there not going to win it then I want to be entertained not bored. If they play like this they'd better come back as champions.

shen Posted 3 June 2012 Posted 3 June 2012 We were entertaining at Euro 2004. I seem to remember much sitting back after going 1-0 up against France and Portugal respectively. I think England could have easily won the whole shabang with Rooney being on fire that tournament and an all-round very strong squad. They outclassed two relatively poor sides in Switzerland and Croatia, which admittedly was quite unusual. Then again, two late cockups against France and an exciting ET/Shootout were quite entertaining, but not in the way I meant it

Thought it was a scummy, cowardly foul by the Belgian at the time, blatant cheating that could have cause both players serious damage and as a result one misses the biggest tournament of his career. Martin Kelly called up as a replacement. Underwhelming squad now to say the least.

After a yellow card has been issued by the ref, uefa should punish the plauer afterwards if the foul is worse than it was initially believed by the ref. this has directly impacted a tournament team and the culprit has just got a yellow card that does not compare to the injury he caused.

I don't agree with that but some kind of retrospective punishment would be good, not only in this situation but in others such as diving and cheating. I know a lot of it is subjective but I don't get how what the Belgian player did is 'better' than an accidental high elbow or a mistimed challenge that many a player have been sent off for. After seeing the replays you can see how dangerous it is, especially considering 2 players' heads are involved. I might be overreacting but considering all the fuss regarding discipline and diving and whatnot I thought it was an awful piece of cheating that had the gamesmanship of handballing a shot on the line combined with the dangerous play of a reckless challenge.

I'm not condoning what Mertens did, but the implication of having to retrospectively look into all dives, fouls etc. are quite big. E.g. half of Barcelona and Madrid's squad would be perma-banned during the season if something like this were to be introduced. I could see a case for bookings getting reviewed (as they already do in some cases), but injuries shouldn't really play a role here.

Just because it is missed by a ref doesn't mean that it shouldn't go unpunished. Definitely, I think a lot of footballers get away with too much. Whereas in rugby, it tends to get picked up and cited even if the player gets punished by the ref.

I notice he's ignored Fergie's comments a month of so ago saying he couldn't cope with that many games in such a short space in time, only thing about this I disagree with is calling Kelly up, there was an argument to leave Richards out if only taking 1 RB but if taking 2 he had to go, especially as he has plenty of prem experience at CB as well, which will be where Kelly ends up in a few years as well
