Goal Line Officials.

Two horrendous mistakes in a matter of seconds, plus weird decisions from the ref such as gerrards yellow card which no-one even mentions anymore due to them being so commonplace as to be expected, really makes you wonder what these officials are doing all week, because they're certainly not working on improving performances

How was Gerrard's yellow card a weird decision? He led with his elbow. Definite yellow card. No doubts and nothing weird about it.

It's just a less serious matter in the grand scheme of things, considering yellow cards get wiped out now.

But the official who got the offside decision wrong had previous in the same match - Artem Milevskiy was a good few yards offside when he missed that sitter of a header.

He didn't lead with his elbow, he jumped for the ball. Nobody jumps with their arms by their sides.

At that speed and how close the ball was to the line, no matter which way the goal line official went it would have been a guess. It's easy watching the slowed down replays to see it go over by a fraction, but not with the naked eye in a split second.

Justice was done as it was off side anyway.

Well it's proved that if they really want to know if a ball has crossed the line an official nearer to the goal than the linesman is not the answer, the human eye is just not capable.

Likewise it's not capable of deciding many offsides.

I think they knew it wasn't perfect from the start, but it is better than just having a linesman 4 x the distance away running back towards goal. Last nights was a fraction over and hard to call, many others (such as the Lampard one) would have been seen and awarded by the official.

lol

I wonder if anyone is going to keep banging on about Lampard's goal now?

In fairness, a lot of people were more bothered about the performance of the team after that. In some ways, Gareth Barry being skinned down the wing is the bigger memory.

I just hope the technology is infallible, and it's in just for goal-lines, because I fear it could be brought in for any number of things on the pitch in time.

What are these ****** for? Anyone got an answer yet? It's clearly not advising referees on simple decisions, it's clearly not advising referees on big penalty calls and last night proved it's clearly not anything to do with seeing if the ball is over the line or not.

What is the point in them?

I would like to know why they seem to be on the linesman's side of the goal.

Surely it would be better for them to be the other side for a better view of unclear calls for throw-ins/ set pieces away from the linesman?

This, it is pointless having a corner when you have the GLA standing on the pitch facing the post (one day it is going get fired into his arse) then the linesman standing in line with the GLA watching the corner. They should be on opposite sides and you effectively have someone in each quarter.

He didn't lead with his elbow, he jumped for the ball. Nobody jumps with their arms by their sides.

I think that would be good new rule all arms (except the goalie) must be strapped to the side at all times it would eliminate hand balls and elbows to face and waving around imaginary cards and taking off the shirt to celebrate, and it would make Newcastle look like a team of penguins.
