Goal Line Officials.

So, I'm watching the Spain game and Sergio Ramos has just flown in about two yards off the ground, studs showing, in the area literally a foot away from the extra official. The referee was 30 yards away and gave a corner. My question is, what is that extra official for? If he can't see that that is a foul, why is he there? What is he doing? I'm with Lawro on this. They're pointless and pathetic.

He didn't make the call because it was absolutely ****ing fabulous tackle from Ramos. Won the ball cleanly.

Good, sensible refereeing. Ramos was nowhere near anyone's knees or legs, clipped his foot that's all. Never a leg breaker, people need to stop being terrified of studs and get the **** on with playing football. I'm not normally the sort of philistine that rants and raves about back in the day of caveman football, Chopper Harris et all. But that was just a good, strong tackle.

Let's stop watering down the sport and enjoy the odd lunge, nobody's legs were at risk there.

He couldn't see Badstuber's tug on Bendtner yesterday either even though no-one else was near. Good call in the Italy-Ireland game though...

Well, well, well goal line official's had a shocker there. That's why they get criticised - not making key decisions when they should!!!

It appears that they are just that - goal line officials. They officiate the goal line. Make sure the paint is still visible and make sure the line stays straight. It may seem, that after tonight and previous incidents, that's all they seem good at.

lol certainly couldn't argue with the visibility and the fact the line stayed straight the whole match is rather impressive... fine job then...

I wonder if anyone is going to keep banging on about Lampard's goal now?

Well yes, the Lampard goal was a legitimate goal, as was last nights. Goal-line technology should absolutely have been in place to give that goal yesterday.

While GLT is not in place there's every possibility that the events of last night replay against us against Italy, costing us a Semi-Final place.

The whole 'well it went for England so they won't care anymore' myth being bounded about yet again by bitters.

Technically, it wasn't a legitimate goal as their striker was miles offside when the long ball was played, so the chance shouldn't even have occured. On the other hand, because the offside wasn't given, it was a legitimate goal as it clearly crossed the line. I don't even know what my opinion is. I just hope that situations like this don't lead to people talking bullshit such as "ooh it's written in the stars" like they did when Chelsea won the CL.
