The Apathy derby : Coventry vs. Leicester

Decent read again...

I think Forest and Derby have always hated each other, it just got more intense when Brian Clough (:worship:) was appointed Nottingham Forest manager. I always see Coventry as our biggest rivals anyway, that's a personal opinion and it is different for everyone. But deep down it's Derby/Forest and Birmingham/Villa.

Good article, well written and not to far from the truth, I know a whole generation who grew up hating coventry, however due to the fact they sustained top flight football for so many years, I never saw us play them until the mid/late 90's under MON so although I dislike them and the fact they gave us so much cr@p after going down to L1, everything they are getting now is pay back of a kind.

But growing up around the north of the county and studying in l'boro I hate Forest most and Derby 2nd as we played them more in my early years at Filbert St.

They are a third rival, but I've enjoyed beating them and seeing them go down a couple of times.

Surely it's better to have more big games to look forward to, rather than totally dismiss them?

Indeed. Plus I always find it funny how pissy people get on here about Forest fans dismissing us as rivals, only to then go and do exactly the same thing with Cov. Makes us look just as pathetic as the "We Don't Care About You" Brigade from Nottingham.

Its a tough one to call for me. Its not black and it really does depend on where you live. I class Derby as our biggest rivals as I know so many of them. I know of 4 forest fans and no Cov fans. Up until this season my thoughts about Coventry were of about the same as say, Barnsley. however, of the three sets of fans to visit our stadium last season the best atmosphere and the match with the biggest feeling of dislike between both sets of fans was the Coventry game. So just for that I shall miss the m69 Derby this year

The derby means an awful lot more to them than it does to us, you need only look at the away ends at either fixture to work that out. They make some serious noise when they enter LE2 whereas our following is always fairly muted at their place, it's little more than an easy away day for us.

I'm not going to miss Coventry next season.

That's very Forest of you.

The difference is that the Forest-Leicester actually has some history behind it. As your blog rightly says, Forest-Leicester was THE derby between the two big East Midlands clubs from the region's two biggest cities. Post-Clough, the Forest-Derby rivalry eclipses it but it's still a decent game for both sets of supporters.

Coventry have only really cared about us since they were relegated from the Premiership and Birmingham have become a side with intermittent Premiership appearances, making their meetings irregular. We only cared about them from around the mid noughties onwards when Forest were in League One and Derby nabbed themselves a spot in the Premiership. It's a rivalry of convenience that will be seen as less important than our meetings with Peterborough in a couple of seasons.

That's my view anyway.

Was it?

I can't remember seeing it as a rivalry growing up, always loved beating Forest and Derby though. I laughed like a drain when Forest were stuffed 8-1 at home by Man United for example.

Always seemed to be a good atmosphere around that game at Filbert St.

Not as big as Derby but Coventry seemed a big game to me.

I was young though.

I hate them more than any other club and like icfc stu said easily the best atmosphere out of the 3 main derbies last season.

Did not want them to go down to be honest as i love all the local matches.

At Highfield Road it was. Absolute dump situated in a dump.

Went twice, two corking atmosphere. They had an end similar to the Kop which was full of snarling beasts.

Growing up in the 90s, it was always Coventry or Derby. Derby for the earlier half of the decade with some cracking fixtures and then Coventry in the second half. When we were in the First Division, Forest were Prem and then our Prem spell, Forest were first division.

However the excitement surrounding Cov died when they moved as did a lot of their fanbase.
