Wouldn't have booed the guy but think he's a right **** to do that. He messed up, should take it on the chin. Was always gonna happen to be fair.

I was embarrassed by some of our fans last night, booing a guy for missing a penalty, do people really think he meant to do it, he tried something lots of people do and he fcuked up the execution of it, to still be jeering someone for that is pathetic. He gave Beckford a lesson in working for his team last night and was rewarded with a goal.

He may not have meant to miss the penalty, but I'll say now what I said then.

It was a disrespectful, arrogant way to take a penalty that showed no understanding of the gravity of the situation whatsoever. You'll notice that Waghorn received next to no criticism for missing what turned out to be the penalty that cost us the shootout, because it was Kermorgant's ego that put him in the situation as well as the fact that Waghorn did what you should always do in a shootout; try to blast it through the net. The fact that Waghorn's penalty was down to his misfortune and a brilliant save from Marshall, Kermogant's was down to cockiness and disrespect for his opponent and the gravity of what was our biggest match for a decade.

Tell that to Pirlo or Ramos and the situations they have tried penalties in. The more tense the situation the likelier it is that sort of pen works.

It was a good idea, he fooled the keeper, he had done it ten times before, this time he just didn't hit it hard enough.

Booing him two years after did nothing but wind him up.

You are right, but I hope you also realise that, had the keeper dived more than he did and it had gone in, there would still be many, many FT posters drooling over it today.

Que sera sera.

With respect, Kermorgant isn't Pirlo or Ramos.

He was a middling French Ligue 2 player brought in cheaply who went on to score 1 goal in 20 in England's second tier.

He was trying to be clever and embarrass the keeper but made himself look ridiculous. You can bet your arse that if Pirlo and Ramos had missed their penalties, the reactions in Rome and Madrid would have been similar to ours in May 2010. A penalty shootout is not the time for showboating.

Don't get me wrong, we as a club have moved on. Very few of the players we had that evening are still here, we have new owners and look a far stronger team than we did then. I'd also have a fairly sizeable bet that we'll finish above Charlton come May, but football fans have long memories and Kermorgant should really have expected to receive stick. He received a chorus of boos, not the kind of abuse Sol Campbell and Adebayor have to endure when they come up against former clubs.

If you're going to boo him then don't get all arsey and indignant when he gives a bit back.

Good to see that there are other sensible, mature people out there.

I wasn't there, I didn't boo him. I even said in this thread let it go.

Yet only 4 posts above you state that you wish we had a player like Taggart 'to sort him out' :P

Anyone that is upset by his celebration is a fool, because I can guarantee that if it was any of you were in his shoes, you'd have done exactly the same. Admit it ;)

I think your find alot of people more pissed off at his reaction after the penalty, he couldve come out apologised shut up, but no he bascially slagged everyone off and didnt see to grasp what had happened.

Nah, nothing wrong with chipping pens, It's not showboating, yes it looks cocky but proffesional keepers commit themselves early meaning taking the pace off and chipping a penalty with precision works more often than not if you to sell it to the keeper, which Kermogant actually did quite well, his problem was his connection was god awful, and if your connection is god awful when taking a penalty chances are you going to miss regardless of what your trying to do. Chipped pens should always have height which if he had got he would of scored. But as we all know it barely left the floor and would of struggled to cross the line even without Marshells intervention.

The idea in it's self is no less risky than attempting to rip the net out, get it wrong you've found row Z and you look like a clown. Try and place it in the corner you might not have enough power to beat the keeper. I don't take issue with the idea it was just the execution which was way below the standard required of any one getting paid to play football.

I agree completely, but the actual skill involved in chipping the ball 12 yards is minimal. The skill is having the balls to do it and committing the keeper, he did that fine but hit it badly. Now if you can't chip a ball 12 yards with a 100% success rate you shouldn't be taking penalties like that.

I don't think any one can do anything with a 100% success rate given that we are all human. As we all know Kermit is renound for being a reasonably clean striker of the ball, he just F**cked up really is all there is to it.
