Lambert09 Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 His first game will be against Cardiff.... so If we dont finish this weekend in top its Wellen's fault
Jace Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 Apparently it was Wellens who gave Top Harry Redknapp's phone number
marty78 Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 He also stole Pearson's beetroot sandwiches and blamed it on Beckford and Danns.
Captain... Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 Good move really, not going to get anywhere near the first team for a while and ain't going to be match fit. Not sure if he is going to play any real part for us this season, but makes sense to give him the opportunity to get fit and a chance to fight for his place.
marbelladave Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 Leave Wellens alone you cads! If he can get fit he'll have a role to play this season. I love you Ritchie even if the forum don't... PS Marbella Dave you are sooooo up yer own arris. (Mark w where's your emoticon of the bloke dropping his pants and showing his bum?) And I thought we were getting on so well.......... You're dumped....... He is gone!! !! I'm with you on this...... Good move. Think he could play a big part for us this season still, when the going gets tough and players tire If we need him to 'play a big part for us' then we bill in deep shit, no chance of promotion.......
shade Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 The club has moved on and so should you lot. Wellens was, was (past tense) a key player in our relative success of the past. Last season ,not the odd match, but last season, Wellens was very poor. If he can get some of that old form back by all means he will deserve a place in the squad. Unfortunately, like me his legs have gone. We can not carry passengers in the championship. Yes he could pick out the odd pass but he was no Glen Hoddle. as opposed to 'was' present tense?
foxoffderby Posted 5 October 2012 Posted 5 October 2012 From Sky Sports News Richie Wellens says he jumped at the chance to join Ipswich Town after Leicester City agreed to let the midfielder head out on loan. The 32-year-old has not featured for Leicester this season as he has been recovering from a knee injury and he has linked up with Ipswich to build up his match fitness. Wellens could make his Ipswich debut against Cardiff City on Saturday and he is looking forward to his month at Portman Road. "I've been looking to go out on loan and when the opportunity arose to come to Ipswich, I didn't have to think twice," Wellens told Ipswich's official club website. "Leicester wanted me to go out on loan and when they showed me the list of clubs that I could go to, Ipswich stood out. "I need to start playing games again after my injury and this is a great opportunity to do that. It's a nice club and I've always enjoyed playing at Portman Road. "We're down at the bottom of the league at the minute but there are some good players here in the squad so I'm sure the position will soon change back to top more comments

PS Marbella Dave you are sooooo up yer own arris. (Mark w where's your emoticon of the bloke dropping his pants and showing his bum?) Agreed. Apart from the love bit He's been a big help to this club and played a vital role in the midfield. I guess it's just indicative of the fickleness of a lot of our fans. It's probably the best move for both parties but the hate he gets on here takes the piss. A good championship player on his day but getting on a bit now. Cheers Richie and good luck.

I have never rated Wellens as a player, his best season for us was his first, the 2009/10 playoff season, and I thought he was distinctly average then. I have always considered him to be all bluster and attitude, he tries to look busy and in control, shouting and pointing, but his effect on the game is minimal. I am not going to catalogue what I think are his failings, but to suggest that he has been 'vital' to us is is absurd.......
ithuriel Posted 5 October 2012 Posted 5 October 2012 Is shocked and very saddened by this turn of events, now i can no longer say, "its Wellens fault," or "its Wellens," ah well, alls well that ends well.

I've been so anti Wellens for so many years, now he's gone i'm passed celebrating. He was a times average and that is the best I can say. Also Dave you must be right because your views oppose 'Col city fan's'.

artursteppe Posted 5 October 2012 Posted 5 October 2012 I get slated when I start new posts, so this will have to go in here, because it is vaguely Wellens related. For years I have been anti Wellens, and Gallagher, not because they are rubbish necessariy, but because they are not good enough for the Leicester City I want to watch. Last year in particular I wanted them both gone. Nigel now seems to have moved them on, maybe later than I wanted, but he has got there. Throughout the pre season I was incessantly promoting the concept that our better players were more suited to a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formation. Nigel over the last four matches seems to be using a fluid 4-2-3-1 set up. It does suit the players we have and seems to be bringing the type of success we all yearn. I have been unsure about NP, but at least he seems to be getting there in the end. I must say however, I am impressed with the players he has brought in during the last twelve months. Even the so called top managers get it badly wrong sometimes with their acquisitions, but Nigel is doing OK. Long may it last.

foxesfan1989 Posted 5 October 2012 Posted 5 October 2012 You'll never guess who Wellens new playing partner is...the one and the ONLY... https://pbs.twimg.com/media/A4cDMVvCEAElI94.jpg:large
Guest Col city fan Posted 5 October 2012 Posted 5 October 2012 You have no grace, young man, whether your cage has been rattled or not. Young man! Cheers..... Long time since I been called that. Don't be mardy buddy.. You started it dint ya..
artursteppe Posted 5 October 2012 Posted 5 October 2012 Col, why should I be mardy, when I'm always nearer 'the mark' than you.
okie fox Posted 5 October 2012 Posted 5 October 2012 I've no desire to try and blame him entirely but this idea of having Wellens as our attacking midfield fulcrum has always been flawed and even more so now Knockaert and Marshall are options and Kingy is playing properly and freely again. There are three or four serious limitations with Wellens and the years going by won't help any one of them. I'll try to put them in order of importance. a) He doesn't score enough goals or even try to score very often. We have to score around two goals a game to stay with the pace and that means goals from more than just our centre-forwards. Wellens just doesn't do that. b) He takes too long to pass the ball. With today's fitter and better organised defences the ball has to move quickly. We've more players to do that now and that, in turn, encourages those around them to make the necessary runs. c) Wellens doesn't play one-twos very often but prefers to spray the ball out wide. Why? Not because he lacks the capability of delivering such a pass but because it demands further, fast and immediate action in going for the return. And that leads me to point four ... d) By his own admission he can no longer do the training necessary to play a lot of one-twos and to maintain the all-round edge needed to be an outstanding central attacking pivot. Wellens is a willing and skillful player but he's not good enough for the job here and I don't see him as a good enough defender or quick enough passer to command a place further back. When I look the collective way our team operates now i can't help but believe his time here seems passed. He's perhaps still good enough for a mid-table side but I don't imagine him being happy here in what would be an occasional supporting role at the very best. I respect your opinions, but you seem to be criticising Wellens for not playing like Andy King! There have been numerous games in the past where he has ran the show. Wellens spreads the play to get the full backs and wingers into the game. If City play narrow, the other team simply clogs the middle. A lot of times when Wellens gets the ball he has to bring it under control while an opponent is snapping at his heels. He does well to control it and pass it to the side. He has suffered because other teams realised that not giving Wellens any time on the ball was the key to stifling City. I realise Wellens is getting slower and will not get back into the current team, but he doesn't deserve the venom he gets on this forum. People should recall the likes of Andy Johnson Steven Clemence, and Gareth Williams. Unlike Williams, Wellens always shows for the ball even when he is having a bad game.

This is still very much a work in progress, NFP seems reluctant to fully embrace a more progressive system. Watching the full game on FP it was clear that we were, more or less, playing 4-4-2 with Knockaert lining up on the right but with licence to roam, Nugent, Vardy and Moore all fill the right midfield spot at various times when Knockaert was elsewhere and against a very modest Huddersfield it worked well enough. We still are some way from getting our setup right, hopefully it will come in time......
